Gotcha, so that knocks out places like Savannah GA.  Are you thinking beach, lake, something else?

Definitely water related. We both love the beach, lake would work too. She is most interested in spa services it seems.

Since it’s in the summer and will be hot, what about going north?  Like a spa resort at Lake George?

Well with Portugal being a no go now, trying to plan a last minute weeklong domestic eastern US honeymoon for July 25th. Any recommendations for places driveable from philly? Probably do not want to visit florida

I've always wanted to check out lake Norman in North Carolina.

I'm driving up to Burlington Vermont Friday for this weekend. I'll let you know how it is

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm in the Denver area right now.  Anyone from Denver want to answer these questions or add some commentary?

~ I drove on Pena Boulevard from the airport, and saw some large wooden fences that were deliberately tilted sideways.  What are those for?

~ Is biking up Lookout Mountain a big thing here?  There were maybe 50 people I had to pass driving up.  Is cycling in general big here?

~ Do people here consider Denver a mountain city or prairie city?  Or does it depend on where in the area someone lives?

~ Golden looks like a pretty cool town.  I hear that Fort Collins is cool.  Greeley looks like it might be halfway decent.  I'm in Longmont, and it may be a bit quieter, but I drove through late.  Which of the larger cities are better than the others?

The fences are for snow. It keeps the drift off the roadways.

Anything fitness related is huge in Colorado especially cycling. My first trip to Golden I saw cyclists flying down Lookout Mountain and I was amazed at how fast they were going around dangerous narrow curves.

Denver isn’t on top of any mountains or super close but I think it’s definitely considered mountain and not prairie. Prairie would be closer to the Kansas border.

We loved taking weekend trips to Golden - the old town is cool and historic. I don’t have anything particularly great to say about the other areas you mentioned. We got our Cavalier King Charles from the Fort Collins area and that was all super rural - I think Fat Tire beer is out there though.  I feel like Greeley is a bunch of rednecks. Longmont I don’t know too much about. Boulder (while I’d never want to live there) is actually a cool little town if you are looking for places to visit but the city of Denver itself has plenty to offer. Also a trip to Red Rocks is always worth it.

Drive up some of the 14ers.  Go check out Pike's Peak, Mt Evans, RMNP (Estes) and drive up over the mountains to Lake Granby.  So much sheet to do out there.

Had a great couple of days in Lake Tahoe. Unlike CA, NV takes masks seriously

It's a fun time.  Plus you have tons of college chicks from Davidson and UNCC.  I think all of NASCAR lives on Lake Norman along with a good portion of the PGA tour.  Lake Wylie has actually become the more popular spot here recently just because Lake Norman is so damn crowded all summer.

I'm in Longmont now, and just got back from a bar, and Longmont is pretty sleepy.  Fort Collins sounds like a lighter version of Boulder, or a less-known version of Boulder.  I'm looking forward to walking around there tomorrow night.  I'm stopping in Greeley first, to get some beer from what's apparently a good brewery, so we'll see how it is.  On Google Streetview, it looks like a redneck prairie town, but I also saw some street art and murals, so maybe it's secretly hip.

@BirdsFanBill Burlington VT was real nice. It’s basically a fishing town mixed with a college town. The good thing is there’s no college right now so no frat morons. The food and beer are ridiculously good. We mostly only really ate pub food but it’s a thousand times better than damn near anywhere around philly.  Almost any of the local beers are worth having. I tried a ton, my wife stuck with green state lager by Zero Gravity. Depending on what kind of beer you like they have it and the place Sweetwater has a waiter that knew the beers and would guide you towards what you like. Church Street has a ton of restaurants/bars with outside seating and you don’t need a reservation.

I didn’t try the ben and Jerry’s restaurant because the line was too long but there’s another ice cream place down church street a little bit that was empty and amazing.

As for covid it’s basically don’t be a dumbarse. Inside a building put a mask on, outside no one cares. Go close to a hostess booth put the mask on, when they seat you take it off.

my wife’s already thinking of going back next year for the fourth.

Thanks man. Glad you guys had a good time. I def want to get up to Vermont soon, I've never been.

We ended up booking a spa lodge place near lake George for a few days, then thinking fo doing an air bnb for another 5 days or so in cape cod. Very much looking forward to getting away from everything for a week just the two of us. To say this whole wedding planning and dealing with family during this pandemic has been stressful would be quite the understatement.

Cape Cod is really nice.  My uncle is in Orleans.  I can give you some suggestions, especially on the Outer Cape.

Greeley actually had a lot of street art and murals.  They are trying to be hip.  Downtown was not very big, and I was surprised to see agricultural buildings in a Downtown for a city so big.  They have a couple streets closed off for open-air drinking and eating, and I think you can walk around the closed-off streets with a drink in your hand.  There was definitely no eye candy, in contrast with a better college town like Fort Collins.

Ahem, there is only one Mountain State, sir

If you look in the distance you can see where @Mike31mt got his sistercousin pregnant.

Wow I did not see that coming.  Hurtful, 20dawk4life, really hurtful

While pretty, those aren't real mountains when compared to the Rockies.

We received our family vacation deposit back in full.  Small miracle.

My travel now has been back and forth to the Chesapeake.  Mr. Di made a deal with these people that with them supplying materials his labor would be off set by getting the following season's rent at no charge.  That is all well and good until I added up the incurred costs for this project.  It's well over the cost of 1 season, and seeing as he put up 2 cottages, I went to the owner and asked for 2 seasons rent.  She refused saying that wasn't the deal. OK, it's family that is leasing the other cottage so I go to them to throw me a bone.  They (cousins) have hired a plumber since ours is dead and if we wait for the owners to do finish them it will be 2030.  They  agreed to foot his bill for my cottage.  I am fortunate that my brother is an electrician.  I was his helper 2 weeks ago and the place is wired and ready for hook up to their service.  He also gave me recessed lighting which is nice and I don't have to wait for material that I might not like from the owners.  This past weekend I met the plumber, he talked the owner out of shower units they delivered to sturdier ones that come in a kit and apparently can be installed right up to the studs.  So, while we're waiting on the showers I had some free tile come my way, my son and his friend put that in the bathroom yesterday. The toilet and a small pedastal sink are already there.  I pray to God they measured the flange hole right and the plumber can get through the floor with a shower drain without having a problem.  It's a work in progress.  I really hope to have electricity and plumbing working by the end of this season.

I'd love to go to Africa some time.  Any input on the "easiest" place in Africa to go to?  What would be a good place in Africa to go if you want a cheap and relatively short flight, and also want a safe location?

Other things the same, Tunis, Tunisia is on my bucket list.  Nairobi, Kenya has been on my bucket list for a long time.  I've heard good things about Dakar, Senegal.  I also know people from Accra, Ghana, that say it's very nice.  Lagos, Nigeria, could become the most-populated city in the world in the future, and it very dynamic, but Nigeria is not a very safe country either.
