I’m gonna say the same thing I said after the Gabby Giffords assassination attempt.  How about everybody tone the rhetoric the F down, could we do that?  Politicians shouldn’t be talking about putting candidates in "bullseyes”.  Stop calling people Hitler just because you don’t like them.  If 1 candidate wins, democracy isn’t going to end.   It’s all absolute nonsense.  And all it does is give inspiration to whack jobs to go out and do something stupid.

Absolutely untrue. I was disgusted by the comments from those on here who were saying he should've been killed. If Trump had simply followed the agents as they were trying to rush him to safety, I'd have no issue whatsoever with his reaction to it. 

This is all pretty simple, if America wants Donald Trump give them Donald Trump. That's how democracy works. You can be mad about it but that's as far as it should go.

1). How was someone able to get close enough to take a shot

2). How were they not detected by SS when they were taking aim at Trump

He wasn't escalating division.  He was showing bravery and letting his crowd of supporters know that he was OK. He didn't want fear to win the day.

A massive failure on the part of USSS. But after such a major lapse in security, you'd think the confidence that there was only one shooter would be a bit more questionable.

I think being shot at gives you the freedom to act any way you want. At least a free pass for the first minute

Then you give a thumbs up as you quickly get to safety where you can fully assess the situation, you don't say "fight" three times without knowing what else has transpired.

Enormous failure of the SS...which I take no pleasure in saying.  There were also multiple people in the crowd that saw the shooter and told the cops, but they had no way to communicate to SS.  Lot to learn from this one. 

These rallys are a dumb idea and SS has warned him not to do them...near impossible to secure. That being said, locking down those adjacent rooftops prior to the rally feels like a layup.  

My concern here is that the glaring security lapse will feed into whatever conspiracy narratives come out of this and will sow even more division.

Not at all, I’m more surprised that it hasn’t happened more often. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t condemn it at all costs. This shouldn’t be a bipartisan issue, we should all be against assassinations regardless of who is involved.

I was just coming here to ask the same question - we’re not talking about a 1000 yard shot here.  Reports are saying the building he fired from was like 130 yards away.  Absolute failure all around.

Sadly, this wasn’t the first time a prominent political figure had an assassination attempt against him/her, and it won’t be the last.
