And look at the reactions from each. I see nothing that leads me to believe anything has changed except things have gotten worse.

In open primaries you can vote for the other party, but if you live in a state without open primaries, you would have to register for the party you wanted to influence. There were quite a few articles about this a couple years ago. Most people don't do this, but it is a thing for some.
