Some locked devices just aren't crackable at this point, e.g. iPhone 14/15. Others can take days/weeks depending on the length and complexity of the passcode. it's much more comforting to think that there's a government conspiracy against Trump.

And BOTH sides need to use this as an opportunity to recalibrate. Sadly, I don't think that it will. This isn't the first time that the political rhetoric has been this vitriolic, but the lesson to be learned from history is that every time the political rhetoric has grown to this level of vitriol, violence has always followed. It would be very nice if this event was enough to slap everyone back to reality and to come back to a place of civility. Unfortunately, I don't think it will. There are some voices of reason that are saying much different things now than they were recently. But, there are also some on both sides that seem to be ramping up their language, as crazy as it is to believe. It would be nice if cooler heads could prevail here. But, I think it gets worse, before it gets better.

I have a button still cause I’m cheap and get the SE but why can’t they just hold it up to his face? im not saying you tell the public that’s what happened. Facial recognition algorithms are sophisticated enough to incorporate "active biometrics" sensing, which is a way to detect when the person is awake (they do this with eye tracking and gaze detection, similar to what you see being implementing with self-driving systems on cars.) There is a setting on some phones to use a less secure and more convenient method of facial recognition where this isn't an issue, but I believe it's on by default on most phones. Finger print readers have similar mechanisms by detecting subdermal blood flow, again to ensure the finger print is from a live person and not a 3D printed forgery or a chopped off finger.

July 15, 20241 yr Does anyone know if the ladder was attached to the building or one someone would have had to bring? I saw a post on X saying the one the officer supposedly went up wasn't attached, so that would open up a bunch of other questions if true. That can't be true.

Whether or not they'd actually tell us is another thing. That's almost always through a social engineering form of hacking (e.g. phishing) not through brute forcing anything. The term "hack" can mean a lot of different things and the media headlines rarely dive into the details.

You're just hiding behind that, because you've deluded yourself into believing a guy who has expressed and exhibited his open disdain for the Constitution on numerous occasions isn't actually the threat that he's told you in plain words that he is. No no you’re right. If Trump wins it’s an end to democracy as we know it. Just like all the doomsayers were saying last time. Except this time it’s different and it’s for realsies this time! And how nice of Trump to sit on the sidelines and wait 4 years for the next election. And how nice of Trump to actually try win an election to try to get power instead of just trying to take it.
