Official Philadelphia Flyers Thread - What are we expecting in 24/25?

Congrats to Bobrovsky! Really kicked in the teeth we kept Bryz over him. Another Philadelphia fumble. Happy for him, he never got a chance with us. Cris Carter treatment

It's nice to have MM but watching these playoffs, especially the finals, it is clear as day that the Flyers are light years away from competing on their level. I've been saying ever since Briere and Jones took over last year that if, and i mean IF, everything breaks right for them, (drafting, developing, signing the right FA, not signing Konecny to a moronic 8 year extension) that 2029-2030 will be when they can start making legit cup runs. Thanks to Clarke, Holmgren, Hextall, Fletcher, not only is this team talent deficient big time, but they also have horrible contracts that will be on the books for years to come- Coots, Ellis, Sanheim, and Risto. Think about it. How many Flyers could play for the Panthers and Oilers?

How the f can Mcdavid get MVP, no points last 2 games

Great game 7. Watched it from beginning to end. Hell I don't even watch Eagles games from beginning to end. LOL

Congrats to FL. Especially since they lost the Finals last season. What a mountain they climbed.

I love seeing sports teams/franchises/organizations win a title for the first time. So damn special .

It's MVP for the entire playoffs, beginning with the opening round; it's not just the Cup Finals.

He came up small when it counted the most

It was between McDavid and Bobrovsky, who each carried their respective teams through their conferences.  I think voting had to be completed before the third period, which means you would not know who won the game and series when voting.  It kind of forces voters to take the whole playoffs into account then, which is what the award is for.

It's Official

It’s just another thing that makes the NHL a 4th rate bush league.  How much do you think the Conn Smythe Trophy meant to Reggie Leach, being swept out of the Finals after winning the Cup the previous two years?  I’m guessing not a lot, at least in that moment.  I remember Hextall being presented with it, and looking like he’d rather be anywhere else.

Of course McDavid wasn’t going to come out and accept it — like you said, he got shut down when it mattered and was being booed by the Florida crowd.  Awarding the trophy to a visiting team player when the home team has just won the championship is simply a mistake that cannot be made.

Do the voting at the conclusion of the final game.  Everyone knows the worm (commissioner) comes out and presents the Stanley Cup to the winning team, each player passes it to the next, onto the coaches, etc.  All of the voting can be done for the 30-45 minutes that takes, and they tally the votes for the most valuable player from the winning team.

This draft will really be a huge determining factor on how long it takes, they have potentially 4 selections in the first 2 rounds (2 1sts and potentially 2 2nds).

Between this draft and one of the goalies becoming a bonafide #1 we could start competing in 27 (most optimistic timeline IMO)

I wonder if they buy out Atkinson if MM doesn't come over.

It's nice they have those high picks, but can they draft the right guys and develop them? I'll continue to be skeptical until I see it.

I don't know anything about this year's prospects but, in principle, I'd be pretty close to pulling the trigger on that.  #4 overall is still a premium position in most drafts, and the COL pick next year will likely be a late pick.  If they'd be willing to throw in a cost-controlled D-man who can play minutes, that's what I'd ask for in return.

It really makes you feel good lol  i would’ve went Helenius based off what i read about him  that said who the hell knows with nhl prospects

Odd pick. Smacks of desperation to select a Center, i.e. position over the best player available. I'd have taken Eiserman he was there for the taking. The most productive forward in the draft. This is the definition of a reach. WTF?

So ….. instead of trading #12, 32 and a future pick to get all the way up to #4 overall, the Flyers decided to reach on a player ranked 19-22 on most boards, and trade away the #32 pick anyway for a first round pick a couple of years down the road?

Flyers gonna Flyer. Poverty organization.

While unlikely, the conditions are such the 2025 Oilers pick could defer to 2026.

I'm actually up here in Buffalo, and they are really happy about the Helenius pick.

Luchanko seems like another laughton, which sucks at 13

I'm hearing the 2025 draft is expected to be deeper with more talent and now we have 3 # 1 picks in 2025. So not terribly bummed.

In addition they took a 6'4 center from Sweden, in the 2nd round.

I get that but I also hate kicking the can down the road because of "expected deeper drafts". The NFL is the same way, every year we hear how deep the next year's draft is gonna be, and in hockey it's way harder to determine no matter how long someone has been around the game.

With Michkov coming over, we need to start actioning picks now to give him help sooner because currently there's a severe lack of high end talent and the dudes we drafted this year are not NHL ready

I don't know why TK and Laughton are still on this team. Dump them for whatever draft picks you can get and move on. I'm tired about hearing about their stupid ass culture horse crap. It's time to say goodbye. Also, I think its funny Kevin Hayes got traded again, this time to Pittsburgh. The Blues said 1 year was enough. Lol.

Laughton I can kind of see because at least he's decently cheap. But TK should've been dealt at this past deadline, which also would have helped them become worse and end up with a higher pick
