The two wildcard teams have 90 and 87 points and play each other today; Flyers might be hoping for a BOS win to keep CLB at 87 points. Then they also need to jump ahead of DET and OTT.They’ve made some strides this season but still a ways to go to be relevant again.

Check the standings and games played. They are right in the middle of it and they play Detroit two more times. I believe destiny is in their own hands now. Forester is coming back, Martone plays tomorrow. The lines are heating up and goaltending is top notch at the moment.

NHL playoff tiebreaking procedures dictate regulation wins (RW) as first tiebreaker and wins without the shootout (ROW) as the second tiebreaker. The Flyers are far behind in both of these scenarios, so they'll need to have one more point in the standings to get a playoff spot.Currently, they're chasing PIT for 3rd in the division and CLB for the second wildcard spot. My guess is PIT can get 10 points in their last 9 games and CLB can get 10 points in their last 8. That would put both of them at 98 points. For the wildcard, the Flyers will also have to out-point both DET and OTT (one of whom could get 12 points in 9 games), so it could be argued qualifying 3rd in the division might be easier -- although basically the same task at this point.I think we'll likely see 97 or even 98 points missing the playoffs in the East.

April 6Apr 6 Couldn't even tell you the last Flyers game I watched on TV (been to some live games) but what a great game yesterday. Really hope these kids hold it together and make the playoffs. They are not winning the Cup by any means but would be a great learning experience for them and honestly a great experience for the fans.
April 8Apr 8 The NHL needs to get rid of the overtime loss point, or change how teams make the playoffs. The Flyers have the same record as the Penguins, with 40 wins and 38 losses, but the Penguins have 4 more points because 4 more of those 38 losses were in overtime. And if anyone thinks this is Flyers homerism, the Islanders currently have 42 wins, more than the Flyers and Penguins, and are on the outside looking in for a playoff spot because they only have 5 overtime losses, compared to 12 overtime losses for the Flyers and 16 overtime losses for the Penguins. The Blue Jackets have 3 fewer wins than the Islanders, and 1 point more than the Islanders, and are thus ahead of the Islanders in the standings. In the Pacific Division, the Ducks have 6 more wins than the Golden Knights, but only 1 more point than them, due to Knights having 11(!) more overtime losses than the Ducks. Also in the Pacific Division, the Kings have 32 wins in 77 games, and are in the playoff hunt (actually holding a wild card spot) because they have a whopping 19 overtime losses.Playoff spots and seeding should be based on wins alone, and maybe use overtime losses as a tiebreaker or something.

Look at the Devils. They had more wins than the Flyers before last night and were firmly out of a playoff spot. Loser points in the overtime need to go away. At a minimum, they should be eliminated unless a team loses in a shoot out, which is a stupid skills competition to begin with.
April 8Apr 8 Michkov is a bust. A bust in the sense we thought he could be 1st line 80-90 points player. His ceiling is 60-70 points with maybe 20-25 goals. He can’t skate, he isn’t fast or quick, he is weak, has no reach, he doesn’t have a good shot and because of all that, he looks to pass only and is a turnover machine. You can’t rely on him to be a two way or an offense guy. Save the Toch stuff, look how the rest of the young guys are flourishing. I’m looking to trade him in the coming draft to move up. Hopefully he can get hot between now and the rest of the year to fool another team.
April 8Apr 8 I think the NHL should go back to ties. I hate the stupid loser point system. Keep the 3 on 3 overtime but go to a 10 minute period. If its still tied, then each team gets a point like the old days.
April 8Apr 8 I agree… a point for an overtime loss is crazy. I understand a point for a tie. And I like mitigating ties by pulling players off the ice (in regular season).I wonder how the purists view the shootouts but I like it in regular season.

April 9Apr 9 Devils: 40 wins, 3 overtime losses = 83 pointsKings: 32 wins, 19 overtime losses = 83 points
