So 41% of the U.S Navy is currently in position to attack Iran.

First: I thought Trump told us that we didn't have to worry about Iran's nuclear capability after bombing it, but now he is going for a regime change war unless Iran says they will never have a nuclear weapon.

Second: The USA had a deal with Iran. At the time Iran was a year away from nuclear weapon. Now Trump is claiming it's a week. (No proof of that) So the attack on Iran was a failure or Trump lied to us when he said we don't have to worry about it anymore.
Third: The build up is now estimated at a 1 billion dollars. Trump does not possess the power to start a War. That's a function of Congress. No way Trump asks Congress first before attacking Iran. This is clearly a wag the dog operation to try and get his numbers back up. He can't get regime change without boots on the ground that means armed forces will be killed.

There should be a law that requires the children of Congressmen and the President to serve when the Nation goes to war.

The thing is I don't know how you gunboat diplomacy your way into regime change.

It takes boots on the ground. Even if we went with decapitation strikes, it would require all of the MOPPs left in our arsenal, and we just used half of them already, and we have to think about what we'd need to defend Taiwan.

The only thing that could be done with the assets we have is that we replace the ayatolla with the IRGC, and tbh that's a regime change in name only.

It's like they thought they could somehow do Bush II foreign policy, but better. Only instead of being smart about it, they're just being dumb.

Trump just said they want to completely take out the entire Navy and all missile sites & missiles that can hit across the area. He wants the regime change and has told the Iranian people to stand up now, as this is their opportunity to do so. Lots of variables and Trump has also said that there could be US casualties, so he is preparing everyone for US losses.

I do agree that this terroristic state of Iran is and always has been a threat to the region and to the US. They are at their weakest now and those evil Jihadist (their government) should be taken out.

@Bill There doesn’t seem to be a clear objective other than another regime change in name only. That type of thing may be temporarily successful in Venezuela but I can’t see much positive at all in Iran which is an entirely different animal.

On a side note, this is the first time Trump has actually done something that will also have a big negative effect on Putin and Russia. If this somehow goes well, Russia will lose a major ally in the region and also a supplier of their campaign in Ukraine.

He wants to completely take out their navy and offensive capabilities all together. The nuclear program is a definite as well. Regime change with the help of their people, but that’s very risky for sure. Something like this could actually bond them together again against the "evil” US and Israel. It’s just not a given that it goes as planned. It never does.

And no one knows if this doesn’t spread elsewhere.. it’s a big risk!

For sure. Boats are fairly easy to identify and take out from the air. Going to need boots to get the rest done.
