I do wonder how much Trump spent.

I also find it odd that the dems raised so much money (according to them) and it seems like there was like a 4 to 1 ratio of pro Republican ads. Where'd all that money go?

I don't think it's that big of a stretch to say that political views can be influenced - sometimes strongly - by genetics.

Most things can. Genetics are very powerful, more powerful than many feel comfortable recognizing.

That said, specific political views in the modern era are - based on studies at least - maybe 40% inheritable. There does seem to be a trend that conservatives tend to have more inheritable views here, though the science there is understandably murky.

Anybody claiming it's definitively heritable is "smoking crack", but denying the impact is also folly.

A lot of this is linked to inheritance of survival traits in humans. Historically about half of the human race has always leaned towards a "conservative" approach - that change is dangerous and should be avoided for the sake and safety of the tribe and that "old ways" are always beset - and the other half has leaned towards a more change-oriented approach, pushing the tribe to step out of its comfort zones to try new approaches.

Both have their merits and dangers. So it's understandable why both traits (in this very simplistic distillation) have endured.

As a society we NEED groups of people who push for "staying in our lane" and keeping safe. And we also NEED groups of people who are willing to color outside the lines and find opportunities for change. The latter group needs to understand that there are higher risks there - and that mistakes can be made. Not all things that fall under the banner of "progress" are good for society, and there needs to be a willingness to step back and reassess. (Which there rarely is)

I wouldn't overstate the heritability here too much though. It's anecdotal, but in my family there's a clear divide between the boomer generation and the rest. Most of my generation either started off relatively liberal and stayed there, or started off more on the Republican (not necessarily conservative) side and drifted to the Democrats the crazier Republicans got. It's a fairly big family, diverse in terms of income levels and socio-economic status, but pretty consistent. Out of 14 pairs of parents, aunts, and uncles from the boomer generation I'd say it's 60-40 or maybe 65-35 Republican, and us "kids" (mostly Gen X) are probably flipped the other way.

I posted a link to a study a while back that found AI using facial recognition could successfully predict a person's politics based on physiognomy alone something in the neighborhood of like 70-80% of the time. Unsurprisingly, males with weak chins and impish features were more often liberal, while those with strong jawlines were right wing.

So, yeah, there's a ton of evidence that political affiliation is heritable.

Serious question...

A lot of these illegal immigrants are coming from Venezuela and China. What if Ping and Maduro don't take them back? I'm assuming for other countries like Mexico Trump would just threat to cut off aid if they don't take them, but I'm wondering about adversarial countries we have no agreements with.

Since the gop controls everything, they need to change those stupid asylum laws. Even most liberals I know don't think you should be able to enter the country illegally then claim you are seeking asylum when you get caught. Nor should anyone be able to seek asylum just because their country sucks.

i'm sure president cheeto has a very detailed policy that accounts for all potential scenarios.

No, but you are politically malleable. All it would take is a few months of favorable tv news coverage for Republicans and negative for Dems and you'd flip faster than you realize.

Only if they eat the fentanyl, too.

I'm not sure it's physically possible, but it seems like this guy might hate liberals more than I do.

Almost a week later and the war in Ukraine rages on.

Maybe he meant 24 days, not 24 hours.

What a failure.
