Fun story!  I recently had a patient whose family was refusing all further vaccines. When I asked why they said a "naturalist" had told them that their kids delayed development at age 2 was vaccine induced autism. They "fixed" it with a proprietary brand of supplements this guy sold them. But they didn't want their kid to catch autism again because he's still a bit slow. The best part? Mom and dad are first cousins.

Now you might think I'm telling you this to dunk on magatard antivaxxers and RFK, but no. I'm telling you so that when I call It Hurts, Lynched and the rest of you dumbFs celebrating RFK 's appointment "the dumbest people I know", you understand my full meaning.

Absolute bottom of the barrel intelligence.

I am by no means an anti-vaxxer, but one of the world's premier peer reviewed scientific study published that trash study in 1999 and took 12 years to retract it.  Every anti-vaxxer I have encountered references that article linking MMR vaccination and autism.  Then the conspiracy theories are espoused when discussing the retraction/fabricated data.

The editors of the Lancet let that genie out of the bottle.

They absolutely helped. As far as I'm concerned so editor responsible for publishing that story, nor the author Andrew Wakefield should be remotely allowed in the field of medicine again.

Since that time an absurd amount of research and money have been poured into the subject. It's arguably the most scientifically soundly debunked medical misinformation ever published. So IMO still believing in it is so incredibly absurd that I find it hard to be kind or understanding to anyone still quoting that study. Or any that link vaccines with autism. And yet here's the POS-OTUS with none other than Wakefield himself

That definitely sounds like something that happened and isn't something a deranged liberal who believes in puberty blockers for minors would make up. Thank you for sharing this very real story today!

The issue is that laypeople get access to reporting on studies in the first place.

It’s how we got the fat is bad, sugar is good, eggs are good for you, no wait they’re actually bad for you, well turns out the whites are good for you and the yolks are…

I'm fine with the papers being made freely available. But the editors and authors need to face serious and prompt consequences of they're found to be manipulating data and/or taking bribes like Wakefield.

Now laypeople (including congresspeople) having a day in what studies get funded?  That I have a huge problem with. I posted previously about I've of my brother's coworkers getting criticized by politicians because she got funding to study duck Ds. It's a catchy headline for dumb people, but in reality it's used as a genetic model for the development of chirality in organisms and is very interesting research.

These dumb old Fs complaining about kids getting "participation trophies" are the same GED having a-holes who somehow feel as if they deserve to weigh in on crap they aren't even remotely qualified to analyze. Fragile egos.

There is another layer which is the papers that make the news are either grossly overstated or completely misinterpreted to fit the current news cycle.  Comparing the by line of a news report on an article to the text of the article rarely results in an accurate portraying of the findings.

To be fair to all the poor, uneducated, unemployable Trump voters, there's no way they could've possibly seen this coming

When I worked in the oil industry, I used to deal with LIHEAP funds working with both the state employees and our customers keeping them in heat. I imagine since it Dept of Energy this program is not working at the moment.  Who cares if low-income folks are cold.

Yeah, this isn’t an excuse for willful ignorance. Science, scientists are found to be wrong all of the time. The beauty of science to anyone with half a brain cell, is that they correct themselves instead of doubling down.

The study was not retracted for 12 years.  It was published in the Lancet which is a highly respected journal.  That creates a huge problem and greatly damages the credibility of science.   That "study" was mostly fabricated, caught the attention of the world, and iirc had questions about it's validity within the first year of publication and was proven wrong by other studies within 3 years.  Yet, with near overwhelming data showing the flaws of the study, the Lancet waited another decade before publishing a retraction.

The initial publication made big news.  The finding of issues and the retraction did not.  The system failed. The space was created to allow this manufactured idea to grow.  Fertilize it with a well earned distrust of big pharma and you end up with a small population of zealots that cannot be convinced otherwise.  People will do what people have always done and this is a perfect example.

Eggs and gas now both higher than the date he posted this. Thanks Trump!

While he lied about the election, and the one before that, and the one before that, and he lied about lowering prices...I'm sure he's telling the truth about all the fraud he's finding.

Those darn zealots, I just hope we're not dumb enough as a country to elect one as president or nominate one as head of the HHS!

Dude, nobody even talked about egg prices in here though, so I'm not sure why you keep bringing it up? It's a simple question!

Maga Jesus.

If a boy kisses you on the cheek turn to him and shoot him. That is the law.

Father surely you can heal my sick son. Sure I can, but who is going to pay for it. It's a sad story, but it does not make me responsible.

It's super duper easy for a rich guy to get into heaven. The richer the better. Get a golden house just to be sure.

Love your neighbor as you would yourself. Unless you are better than your neighbor.

MAGA.

"You have a clever way of rejecting God's law in order to uphold your own teachings.” -actual Jesus (Mark 7:9)
