Also, for everyone who had a stroke about Hillary's emails, how do we feel about actual military attack plans being discussed in a Signal cat group which included a reporter? We're good with that?

This legitimately would be the largest scandal for most administrations, but it's basically expected from this clown show.

Honestly, ever person in that Signal chat group should resign, including the VP. Discussing details of military plans on Signal is so grossly irresponsible.

Right, they will attempt to flip this around somehow.  If it was just one person Trump could sacrifice them but there are too many involved.

Interesting. I still have it open. I can PM you the article if you'd like

Thanks but no need.  I'm quite sure the details from that article are all going to come out.

That being the dumbest part of this notwithstanding, I’ve got a question that you’d know better than I would given your job WW2 is your niche history interest.

Why in the hell do Silicon Valley types (JD in particular here in the story) believe that the main benefactor of securing freedom of navigation is other countries and not the US, who basically set up the whole thing up in the first place?  Do those modern day yuppies not understand second and so on order of effects and just assume everything is zero sum or what?

They talk about getting an ROI from other countries, particularly Egypt. Do they just not get that if you want an empire you’re going to have to spend money on the fringes of it?

The safest thing for Goldberg himself to do was to release that information as widely as possible.

Honestly, we just have a group of people that have known only a world where America is the sole hegemon, at least in the Western World. They simply don't grasp how things were before the post WW2 order and the ENORMOUS benefits the US has reaped from being the world's reserve currency and the military backstop for western democracies. It's why they get it so wrong on Ukraine, as an example. America First is at its core a rejection of the post war order and a reversion to isolationist principles, and it presupposes no consequences to US global domination of finance as a result. They truly believe we can abandon the responsibilities in the global order while maintaining all the benefits because they simply don't know any better and are ignorant of history.

Odd because the link I sent was a free article

Add in all the benefits from the soft power now being discontinued thru DOGE and you get the full picture of the ignorance.

The Atlantic link requires me to start a subscription or a free trial to read the article.  If that's the link you are talking about then maybe there is geo filter and it isn't free outside the US or something.

Rolls-Royce is evaluating a shift in engine production to the US as a strategic response to potential trade tariffs under Donald Trump’s policies. The company, headquartered in Derby, is increasing US production capacity to safeguard its supply chain and maintain competitiveness in key markets.

This is basically just calling them all retarded but with way more steps.

No telling what other crazy ish he would have seen too

We get restricted information on companies all the time, including public companies. If one of our employees was discussing that info in a group Signal chat, and added someone outside the firm, we'd fire that person on the spot. And be liable to the company.

But military plans? All good.

This is the genius of Trump and his administration -- setting disastrously low expectations and having constant scandals. In any other administration, Congress would launch investigations, people would be fired, and the story would dominate for months. But these morons will do something even stupider in a couple days and this will be forgotten.

If it was Biden and his staff that did it... there would be the expected posters creating a separate thread calling for impeachment, arrests, prison, etc.

Those posters have been pretty silent on this

It's not a good look at all. Betting Fox won't even air this story.  It will take something major to get the House and Senate Repugs to wake up!  Of course, I'm not sure how much major we can get

Get'em Rubio

This also adds onto that discussion we've had before about politicians being so careless while the regular person would be thrown in prison so quickly

If Lloyd Austin had done this, the GOP would have already subpoenaed him and would be all over the news calling him a DEI hire who should be fired.

And Biden would have already demanded his resignation, and Austin would resign.

This might be why it's bad to make a Fox News host with a drinking problem and zero qualifications for the job the Secretary of Defense...

There was another potential problem: Waltz set some of the messages in the Signal group to disappear after one week, and some after four. That raises questions about whether the officials may have violated federal records law: Text messages about official acts are considered records that should be preserved.

"Under the records laws applicable to the White House and federal agencies, all government employees are prohibited from using electronic-messaging applications such as Signal for official business, unless those messages are promptly forwarded or copied to an official government account,” Jason R. Baron, a professor at the University of Maryland and the former director of litigation at the National Archives and Records Administration, told Harris.

"Intentional violations of these requirements are a basis for disciplinary action. Additionally, agencies such as the Department of Defense restrict electronic messaging containing classified information to classified government networks and/or networks with government-approved encrypted features,” Baron said.
