Trumps BBB has a 1k baby bond provision. When Hillary proposed something similar, it was called socialism.

Why it matters is that I didn’t recall that proposal by Clinton in 2016, so I was very curious to see it. It didn’t happen, is all. I have little doubt that Trump fans hated much of what Clinton ran on and would be for it if Trump ran on it.

Personally, I think the bond idea is a decent idea and would be beneficial long term for many people. While the tax credit helps people now, many don’t save and plan so the bond idea is good. It was good when Clinton proposed it in the mid 2000s.

You're being overly pedantic about this and I say that as one of the more pedantic posters here. The underlying point is, they were both proposing a $1k handout for simply having a baby. The only difference is one would've came in the form of a forced savings instrument. It's somewhat similar to the people who brag about how much money they got in their tax refund every April without realizing the financial pitfalls of overwitholding year after year.

I'm all for giving people the tools to be more financially independent (401ks, HSAs, etc) but we all know the vast majority of people this is allegedly intended to benefit would be looking for ways to withdraw and spend this money rather than contributing more to grow as an investment.
