He won because Americans were convinced they were feeling economic pain that was the result of Biden policies. The urgency from the left to boot Trump at the height of Covid - the only crisis he faced as president which he bungled badly - was gone. But the economic pain from the pandemic left a stain on Biden's term he couldn't shake. And Kamala was not great. She was the best shot we had by the time Biden realized he had to step aside. But she was not the optimal choice.
