To be clear, depending on how it would be funded (if everyone actually paid as opposed to just taxing the rich, I'd be OK with it), I wouldn't be against a universal healthcare system that people could opt out of or supplement. So in LA, maybe some hospitals are government hospitals, but higher end care like Cedars-Sinai would require payment.

But trying to have the government manipulate the insurance and provider markets is a disaster that makes everything worse.

You also can't send people away who need medical attention. Clearly we're at a stalemate.

More proof of Trump's economic failures.

TRUMP HUMILIATED as FORD PICKS CANADA for $3B INVESTMENT — DETROIT IMPLODES OVERNIGHT!

Ford’s shocking decision to channel billions into Canada has detonated a political and economic bomb in the U.S., leaving Detroit reeling and Washington scrambling for answers. As Canadian officials celebrate a historic win, American workers face the brutal reality of lost jobs, stalled factories, and a manufacturing map that’s shifting north faster than anyone predicted. Analysts warn this could be the breaking point that exposes deep cracks in U.S. industry — and a devastating blow to Trump’s claims of restoring American dominance....

If you had a universal system, they would be taken to a government run hospital. That's the solution. Nut up and pass an actual universal healthcare system.

Democrats have pulled a magic trick on the population to absolve themselves for responsibility for their own failures. The Sierra Club protests coal miners and shippers who aren't breaking any laws, and give money to Democratic politicians who fail to pass environmental legislation. Democrats get people angry at hospitals and insurance companies, but they are for profit enterprises (not all hospitals), and shirk responsibility for not passing universal healthcare. They get people mad at gun manufacturers to cover up for their inability to pass meaningful gun regulations.

Stop blaming companies for not advancing societal goals. That's not their job. That's the government's job.

Whoa whoa whoa, I blame everyone. I certainly don't absolve ANY politician.

LOL - fair enough. But most "activists" focus their blame on companies that exist to maximize profit, and absolve government leaders who take their contributions and then fail to deliver. A few years ago, AOC (I think it was her) was berating Jamie Dimon asking him to pledge no more financing for fossil fuel companies. He said that would be terrible policy. What he should have said is "you're a Congresswoman, pass a law making that illegal and JP Morgan will follow it."

Oh a jeopardy answer. Ok I’ll solve. What are: "the 3 things the government has tried to get overly involved in to "fix”, and only ended up making their costs outpace inflation by orders of magnitude”

Alex trebek: Correct.

Where exactly has the free market all by itself covered the population for theses basic needs?

Leaving Trump out of this for a second....F Ford. The tax payers bailed them out years ago under Obama, and now they are jumping ship. This is actually a bigger loss for Obama IMO than it is for Trump. What a disaster.

Well housing and tuition prices were actually pretty affordable before the government decided it should get involved and take measures to "improve access". The only thing the government ended up improving access to was the amount of debt people had access to take on.

When you subsidize risk, there's no limit to the cost. This is a lesson the government has failed to learn many times over the last 100 years.

Yes because the Trump prosecutions have gone so well.

So nowhere.

lol what? What do you mean nowhere? I just gave you 2 examples. Housing and education prices were perfectly fine before the government decided to control the market. My dad went to college in the late 60s. He paid for his tuition with a summer job working at a paper mill. That same university's tuition today is $61,500 per year. Yeah good luck paying for that with a manual labor summer job.

Oh and how about every other single item out there where the government has largely stayed out of the market and allowed the free market to operate? Items that used to be a luxury 50 years ago are now commonplace items.

No, they didn't. Ford divested assets such as Jaguar, Land Rover and Mazda and did other liquidation, so they didn't need to take any bailout money from the government. Chrysler and GM took the bailouts.

they did get $5.9bil in sweet loans to retool though.

Ha ha LOLlol
