This strategy gives the Dems a way to appeal to their base without flying off the handle on the policy sheet and, on top of that, it lets Dems do what Reps have been doing for decades, attacking not just the political actors on the other side but the entire idea of being a Republican. But of course, it's extremely personality based, it couldn't be done by most Dems because most Dems are boring nerds who no one wants to listen to.

Where does it take the country? I have no idea dude. We're almost certainly F'd either way. But I'd guess a Dem president could buy us more time.

Honestly I think pointing out that they are actual fascists helps and is important. Republicans have been calling democrats communists for decades, but it's only been recently that a few on the dem side actually have the balls to call the republicans fascists. I'm a big believer of calling things what they are. There are very few republicans in congress who aren't fascists to their core, and the republicans who post here are actually worse other than the few who don't support Trump.

This is the kind of sheet that lets you know that when the fat dope eats his last cheeseburger, the fascism continues. They’re all like this now. It’s core to their belief system. If Dems don’t change, they’re conceding our Republic.

Reagan & Dubya were both accused of being fascists in their time.

I don't buy this argument that leftists need to become a-holes to win. I think that's just leaning in to the id.

That said, Trump and the demagoguery around the party is the closest this nation has actually come to a fascist like movement. The ICE tactics to me are an attempt to normalize the militarization of our streets in the name of public safety.

Looking back on right wingers crying fascist over mask mandates is adorable by comparison.

Trump's statement is typical for a science denier. Next thing you know he'll say the Earth is Flat. LOL.

Makes sense. And also Windmills kills birds and cost $1000 every revolution.

For sure, call out what the party has become. This isn't the old Republican Party anymore after Trump/MAGA hijacked it. Point out the consequences of those that enable the hard core 40% MAGA types within the Trump voters to take control. Call that 40% true fascists and scold all Trump voters for enabling the MAGA fascist bullsheet. Split them. This is of course already happening to a degree but I agree with you that the Dems must do this in a well coordinated approach.

However, you need a way forward that works for the overall country and you need a chunk of the non hard core MAGA to either lay down their vote if they just can't stomach voting Democrat or better yet actually vote Democrat. The 10% of voters that jumped over from Biden to Trump is the easy bloc to grab just as you yourself pointed out. Grab them and say another 5-10% of the "we always vote GOP" types and win the elections. That's exactly what I'm saying and from reading your posts you know that is a must. Give them a pathway to enter the tent.

From there you need to find a longer term solution and you can forget amount any wild ideas of an amicable split of the country. That would never work. That leaves the option of isolating actual hard MAGA and putting them firmly back in their corner eliminating the possibility for them to continue counting on the old Republican non MAGA votes. For example, there will likely need to be some real change to allow for a more proportional representation that can accommodate more than two parties. Eliminating gerrymandering and using some for of percentage based representation for each overall state is an example of the type of idea that might work. There must also be a reigning in of Executive power. This is a problem that both Dems and Repubs have allowed to grow. Of course Trump takes it and puts it in steroids but it didn't start with Trump.

I'd love to think we could bring back the saner old Repub party but that isn't happening so a new way forward is necessary. I'd like to think that happens without widespread violence.

Evidence of Trump calls to members of the GOP to help stop the election have been released by Jack Smith. Rut Roh. Lock em all up.

Calling out the voters is a sure fire way to lose, unfortunately, no matter how dumb they are. Best way is to just call out the candidates.

At the end of the day, each end has their own reasons for voting, but no matter what people in the middle say, their revealed preferences are in the economy. Harris couldn't shake herself of inflation under Biden, and she lost because of it. The "Kamala is for they/them, Donald Trump is for you" ads were just icing on the cake.

If a Dem is running against a MAGA candidate, they just need to realize that they aren't in a Sorkin flick and just use relatable framing to score points against the other candidate.

I’m advocating calling out the hard core MAGA types only. The 40% of the Trump vote that actually want what is happening. I’m specifically saying to NOT call out the others but simply make a point to observe what they have enabled. That can be done without demonizing them.

I do agree the economy should be the lead topic. Some populist measure that appeals to progressives will likely be required to energize more left leaning types but that should be limited and carefully crafted. A strong border should also be in the mix where it is totally differentiated from enforcement inside the country. A moderate position overall with focus on the economy is the best way to beat MAGA. It seems like we agree on that though I do want to include calling out the rabid types.

Calling out some just leads to a soundbite where you're calling out them all (47%, Deplorables).

IMO the best way is to just go negative on the candidate early and often.

Some light reading if you're interested. Just came out.

Just came out. I skimmed it, but what I did read was insightful.

I’ll take a look.

Just use the term MAGA at all times. Use it like the Repubs used the term woke to refer to something negative. After a while not all Dems identified as woke.

Doc, you have the WORST ideas on this topic.

He's 80 years old and lives in Sweden, you mean to tell me he doesn't have his finger on the pulse of the average Trump voter?

Of course. You’ve been taking that approach in here for 20 years.

My favorite was, "We can talk more about that after the 2020 election."

Ok, I’m gonna give you an assignment. You have to "win over” one of the MAGA folks on the board.
