We can start with any photo ID for now and offer free national IDs to anyone that wants one. Over time the criteria and process can be improved. Don’t make it so binary."It makes sense" isn't really an answer. You need to demonstrate that there's a problem that needs fixing (there isn't). Even if there was you need to offer free photo ID to all registered voters which won't be cheap and won't be the solution MAGA actually proposes. The reality of the voter ID proposals is you're going to prevent way more citizens from voting then you will illegals. By a massive margin. We've had the right vs privilege debate with voting before, but at the very least voting carried constitutional protection through the 24th to prevent anyone from putting financial barriers to voting. Which is exactly what these proposals do.

Show me the actual evidence that this is a problem worth addressing, and then I'll agree we should spend a non-trivial amount of money to address it. Until then, it's another baseless talking point when we've got far larger problems to address. Reals over feels.

Yeah, I’ve said probably 25x in here that free IDs need to be part of any solution. I’ve also said many times that the current SAVE proposal is a solid NO. Don’t judge this long term topic solely on the sheet of the current context in any case. Let me reiterate for the 26th time that the current proposal is a straight NO for me. Seems every single poster just wants to cherry pick part of what I’m saying.

So why try to "mitigate a potential problem" that we have documented proof doesn't exist when you know one side is doing it solely to disenfranchise people it doesn't want voting?

Pretend it's your money being spent (because it is). There is no "potential problems". Voter fraud has been exhaustively investigated since 2020 with NOTHING found. What are we doing here?

Layout why this makes sense. I want the scenarios you think are happening. For the love of God, one of you have got to give me logic for all this money we are about to spend.
Wednesday at 02:40 PM4 days Just now, ToastJenkins said:Except we dont know that…bc we dont demand proof. Why not take an easy safeguard on such an allegedly vital process/right?It's been investigated ad nauseum man. Over decades. Trump has been beating this drum since 2020 and they have found exactly 1 case of an illegal voting. You don't think they could find something more than that if it was a widespread problem? Really? As for "why not", that's simple. As long as those IDs cost money it violates the 24th amendment. You can't put a financial barrier between a citizen voting. No matter how trivial you find it personally.
