EMB Blog: 2025 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

Sure we could move on from Sirianni and get a head coach that's a play caller like a Kyle Shanahan that's never won anything and had incredibly talented teams. Maybe we can get a head coach like Sean McVay who's a play caller that has the same SB record as our current coach with also plenty of talented, stacked teams. Remember the "F them picks era" ?

In the 5 years Sirianni has been HC, its been majority of the time a winning experience. Yes there's been some downs but nothing in the NFL is great for teams 100% of the time. I'd rather have a coach that wins majority of the time. If Sirianni gets to a certain point when he cant do that, then its time to move on from him. But getting a head coach that's a play caller doesnt guarantee anything.

That works for me, as they got the needs right. Rivers might be a bit small for the outside, iirc.

TampaTrey didnt think it's Lanes last year so they drafted the OT with intent to kick him inside. They did that instead of taking Ioane.

TampaTrey didnt seem to think the CB was an Eagles type of CB but the other guy was insisting he is a good fit.

The TE the took is a receiving TE. They felt the dropoff at TE was bigger than at WR there. They could have taken the WR and then they were talking about some in line TE in the next round.

They ended up taking the receiving TE and the WR they wanted ended up falling to that next pick anyway.

Big test this game for the Iggles run defense.

I hope Jake gets back on track with his kicks.

Not sure this is the week we see great kicking. Expected to rain the 5 hours leading up to kickoff. Then this is around kickoff and a little bit after

I'm saying it's largely a result of the strange type QB, and the team success. It doesn't make sense to fire someone for success.

Let's say that we could get someone better. Cool. But if you fire him right after the Super Bowl...

Would they want to be here?
Would players want to stay here?
Would Vic want to stay here? Like let's say he thinks that's absolute BS and doesn't support organizations that treat staff that way, and so he decides he's done. What then?
What if the "better" coach is heavy on ego and wants to bring in his own guys? You have to get someone who's an upgrade enough to be a brilliant offensive mind AND is flexible?

What if the new coach isn't the greatest at managing players and just pisses people off?
What if the new coach doesn't like the QB?
What if the new coach wants an entirely different system that isn't good for Jalen?

What if he's less willing to work with Jalen's issues as a passer?

Some people think you can just toss Sirianni somewhere, all of the players will like that, all of the coaches you want to keep around will like that, and you can just pop a new offensive staff into there, change nothing else, and everything will work out. But in reality, organizations are way more complicated than that.

I'm not calling for him to be fired, but it wouldn't bother me if he were. Those are different statements.

49ers lose two and go to Chicago

GB wins two comes to Philly

Outside if the two seed this is the best option I see. Not sure who has the tiebreaker if GB and SF tie. Shame the Rams have such an easy schedule.

Unlikely since GB has the tie already.

Who wins the tiebreaker head to head the Seahawks or Rams?

It’s pretty rich listening to all these analysts stand up for Detroit because they lost their coordinators. Welcome to the brain drain party, pal.

So just for fun, I decided to look into the Cowboys' cap situation for 2026 (I need more hobbies). Per Spotrac, they are almost $37mm over the cap for 2026, but there are 5 basic steps they COULD take to get almost $55mm in space; however, Jerry hasn't always done things like this because he is cheap. Remember, he carried Dak on the books the entire 2024 offseason at a massive cap number instead of converting his salary to an option bonus because he is cheap (and stupid). But this is what they SHOULD do: (i) convert $38mm of Dak's $40mm base salary into a signing bonus so it can be amortized over 5 years, (ii) do the same thing with $23mm of Ceedee's salary, and (iii) cut Diggs, Clark and Steele, none of whom have any guaranteed money left:

image.png

To put things in perspective, we should be in the low 30s after releasing Michael Carter, but before extending JD (could get us to around $40mm).

With that cap space, Dallas would need to sign starters at RT, WR, K and CB. They also need to extend Q Williams as he only has around $7mm in guaranteed money left (could lower his 2026 cap hit). Then they need to, you know, actually get better. They need help at edge, safety, OT and CB for sure and depth everywhere. We'll know by March if Jerry is serious or it's the same old clown show -- if he doesn't max out cap space by paying Dak and Ceedee bonuses, then it's still just a circus for attention.

I’d be willing to bet Pickens negotiations are a clown show and they don’t get it done so he gets tagged

Trade as many picks away you can for 1sts in 2027 so we can move up for Arch Manning :)

Oh, I think they are 100% going to tag Pickens. I guess they could also cut Logan Wilson to save another $6.5 million. But the safest best on the planet is Jerry being cheap and slow to act. He'll spend all offseason saying they have no cap room, then restructure Dak right before the season opener or something.

Honestly, if I ran the Cowboys, I'd look to trade Dak this offseason. He's going to be 33 opening day next year, and he's going into year 11 now with Dallas. I can't think of a QB that won a Super Bowl this late in his career with the team that drafted him (Elway was technically drafted by the Colts). If you can get a 1st and then some for him, move him and commit to a rebuild.

The real issue in Dallas -- they have SUCKED in the draft lately after being great for a good stretch. 2023 - Mazi Smith was an epic bust, and the only good player (Overshown) can't stay on the field. 2024 - Guyton is really bad, Beebe is the only real player (maybe Flournoy). 2025 we'll see, but nothing too exciting yet (Booker seems fine).

I wanted to keep Nussmeier on our coaching staff and draft his son.

I’d trade him. Not winning a SB with him and eventually he’s going to decline. Also cause i think there would be teams like Steelers, dolphins (not sure cap wise they could do it), jets, cardinals and even a team like Atlanta (although no 1st and I’m not sure penix can stay healthy as he didn’t in college and now pros) that would give up a nice return for him. Particularly a team like Steelers or cardinals. Cardinals could deal Murray and recoup some of the their picks lost.

Posters who support firing Sirianni are buffoons and not worth interacting with.

Great job guys

I don’t mind him doing this if he’s trying to absolve himself from a racially implicated interaction and if DK tries to pull that card as a defense. We’ve seen this before where some athletes try to play that card whether it was the Dinger mascot incident at the Rockies game, Angel Reese claiming it and no one finding any evidence, Myles Garrett, or some Jussie Smollett situation. Those accusations can ruin someone’s life, so I get it from that perspective.

I tend to agree that Epps should stay in this role for the playoffs. Mukuba's time will come again next year. Maybe it's Blaine Bishop PTSD about playing an injured safety in the playoffs...

The only reason he dresses in a new suit wearing his Lions cap backwards and holds a press conference flanked by lawyers is to build a case for financial compensation. If DK lied about what was said he should pay the consequences. But have no doubt this guy couldn't wait to be holding this press conference. He targeted DK and I have no doubt he is very pleased with himself. Both he and DK are dopes.

Vic likes Epps, he's doing a good job. He should stay as a Starter.

Dickerson needs to sit his fat slow arse on the sidelines for a couple of more games. I guess get him back healthy (70%?) for the playoffs.
