EMB Blog: 2025 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

FYI, Bills kick that XP in a playoff game. And there's no way our offense was scoring a single point in OT.

Neither team wanted to play an extra 10:00 of football with their respective playoff births clinched and the playoffs 2 weeks away.

Tbh the bills still had an outside chance at the afc east if New England lost week 18 (we’ve seen crazier things happen). Also playing for getting the 5 seed where they could face the ravens or Steelers as opposed to facing New England as the 7 seed (currently) or going to Jacksonville as the 6 which imo are much tougher games. Imo i think kicker getting it blocked earlier factored in and they felt like getting 2.5 yards after they had been moving the ball all 4th quarter was analytically the way to go.

but they didn't so no need for any what ifs...The Eagles went into a hostile environment in late December in freezing rain against a Super Bowl contender and won....that is a great win! I can worry about the failures and the drama later in the week...

I took some amusement at McDermott going for two at the end of the game. The guy just isn’t a Super Bowl coach. Kick the XP and go to OT, because the chances of Hurts doing anything in the extra quarter were absolutely nil — it was a definite win for BUF.

Good Lord, Jalen Carter is so good. I've been saying that the Eagles should look to trade him for a haul and use the money for JD, Ojomo etc., but man I want him on this team dominating. I just don't know how Howie is going to do it.

They 100% missed Nakobe Dean today. Dean and Campbell are such opposite style players. They have to pay him.

Ugh, going to see some very good players walk.

Don't worry you guys. Siri and Patullo are saving the real O for the playoffs. Instead of a run, run and a deep shot it will be run, pass and again a run on third down to keep the opposition guessing :)

A well rested defense, maybe. But the last thing this offense needs is a week sitting on around, twiddling their thumbs.

The way offenses get out of funks is playing through them and gaining momentum - NOT resting after several very weak performances.

And I like this team’s chances in the Linc during the playoffs against anyone in the NFL.

This offense isn't getting out of its funk. Because it's not in a funk. 16 games isn't a funk...it's just a crappy offense. The only way to improve is to become a different offense by having the offensive line achieve a different state of health than it's had all year. If that can't happen until the offseason, then it's all futile anyway.

Just to point out, the last time the eagles offense put up 20 or more points against a team currently in the playoff field was week 3 vs. the rams.

What about any defense in the top 15 in points or yards? I'll take anything at this point

Stop it. The offense hasn’t been that bad for 16 games - maybe 6-7 out of those 16 games

It's hilarious that with the talent we have, we're discussing whether this offense is marginally better than the 2000 ravens offense led by Trent Fing Dilfer lmfao

Considering we just broke the record for most points in the playoffs in NFL history less than 12 months back. Its laughable for sure.

Exactly, I don't understand the "they need to play to get into a rhythm" argument. They've had 16 games plus a bye week to do that, and it hasn't happened. It isn't happening. This offensive coaching staff is lost at sea without a compass, the only thing keeping them afloat is the defense.

This just isn't that team. Nearly all the same players... and yet, very very different results.

EJ Smith on PHLY just had the opposite take. He said listening to Sirianni talk about the state of the offense makes me think the starters aren’t playing next week.

Basically Sirianni implied this game was their last shot to get it right.

EJ keeps proving he doesn’t have the best takes or read on the team.

Sirianni would look an idiot for saying how important the #2 seed is to the team to be guaranteed a divisional round home game only to rest half the team with the #2 seed up for grabs.

It’s like a 40% chance to get the #2 seed with a Bears loss too, so it’s not some long shot.

I believe the week 12 loss to Dallas (which is an awful defense) was the last time they scored 20 or more points (21) against a team that was not already eliminated from the playoffs at the time of the game.

Also the 4th time in 16 games we’ve gone one half without scoring. Also The 7th time out of 16 games we’ve scored 7 or less points in the second half

I feel bad complaining right now. The Eagles won the SB last year. They are going to the playoffs this year and just beat a really good Bills team on the road, regardless of the circumstances. It's just frustrating that this team would be the runaway favorite to repeat as SB champs (it's unfathomable to even contemplate this after a lifetime of being an Eagles fan) if not for one player taking the snaps and one coach calling the offense. And I personally believe it to be more of the former than the later. Less frustrating if the team just wasn't that good this year. But it's truly ONE problem holding them back from a cakewalk to repeat against the worst playoff field I've ever seen.

Its going to be a lot of tough decisions again. We have to try and keep Phillips and Dean and the rest including Reed might be the casualties. Going to be interesting.

I was kinda happy when he signaled to go for 2. I thought we have a better chance to stop them on the 2 point try then if they went to OT and the offense does nothing.

If he kicked the extra point and go to OT, Bills probably win the game.

If I could choose between no rest next week and being guaranteed the 2nd seed versus a week off and guaranteed the 3rd seen, I would take the rest without hesitation.

I am actively rooting for the Bears tonight.

Rooting for the Bears also mainly because because I don’t want the 9ers to be the #1 seed.

They might be the worst offense in the playoffs by every metric.

The backups could realistically beat Washington next week. I think Carter, Jurgens, Lane, and Dickerson should be resting next week. Not sure if you can do a mixture of still playing some guys while resting others, but maybe that’s the formula. Can’t start Hurts behind a backup OL. Let AJ and DeVonta play with McKee and see if you can get a sizable lead. Saquon on a pitch count with Tank getting a majority of carries.

Believe Minnesota is the last time offense scored 20+ against a defense in the top 15 in ppg allowed and yards allowed

Don't feel bad. Like you said, this would be a cakewalk repeat with even an average offense. They're making an easy feat extremely difficult for themselves. I would understand if they lost playing good football. But the way things are going they'll lose because the league's most expensive offense couldn't score 20 points

McKee doesnt even need those WRs. He will carve up washington with Cooper, Dotson, and Calcetera.

Could use some help from some defensive starters though. For about a half, till he has them put away.

Eagles won the Super Bowl last season in large part because of the #2 seed. DET was incapable of playing defense by the end of the year and got dusted in the divisional round, which enabled the Eagles to play the NFCCG at home.

There isn’t any NFC team this season who is above the possibility of being one-and-done from the #1 seed. Eagles should be playing for the #2 seed, especially with how CHI looks tonight.
