EMB Blog: 2025 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

I feel bad complaining right now. The Eagles won the SB last year. They are going to the playoffs this year and just beat a really good Bills team on the road, regardless of the circumstances. It's just frustrating that this team would be the runaway favorite to repeat as SB champs (it's unfathomable to even contemplate this after a lifetime of being an Eagles fan) if not for one player taking the snaps and one coach calling the offense. And I personally believe it to be more of the former than the later. Less frustrating if the team just wasn't that good this year. But it's truly ONE problem holding them back from a cakewalk to repeat against the worst playoff field I've ever seen.

I agree to some extent. But this has been a very frustrating year with the O. There is no way a team with talent at the skill level positions should be under performing by this much. I doubt it we make a run at the SB as after 17 weeks we are who we are. A defensive team who can only win by single digits.

We can only hope that at the very least with Lane's return they can get back to the heavy sets with Fred and that brings the offense up to mediocrity

I get why they kept lane out. Given the weather conditions with his foot and the game not being an absolute must win. However, I am very curious to see how long he lasts in the playoffs. That is not an easy injury to play through. He is going to require surgery in the off-season. There’s a chance he comes back in a couple plays into it, he goes to the sideline cause he’s not able to do it or play at the level we need. Now I know he is tough, but that injury usually ends guys’ seasons with surgery like he’s going to need

Its going to be a lot of tough decisions again. We have to try and keep Phillips and Dean and the rest including Reed might be the casualties. Going to be interesting.

Yeah and I never felt Reed was a make or break player but he has been very solid also and the relationship him and Coop have I would definitely like to have him back.

Don't worry you guys. Siri and Patullo are saving the real O for the playoffs. Instead of a run, run and a deep shot it will be run, pass and again a run on third down to keep the opposition guessing :)

Maybe hurts is saving his runs for the playoffs? We can only hope; it will be a difficult run if he doesn’t.

But I don’t believe either of those clowns has a master plan for the playoffs.

Only up seven points.

But to speak to that field...I truly believe the Rams are the best, "scariest" and "most complete" team in the NFL.

This is a team with zero homefield advantage, a 37 year old QB not named Tom Brady. One who absolutely cannot tolerate getting flushed from the pocked and chased around...and playing behind an OL that isn't exactly a secure vault. The defense is quite good but not scary. That's a footnote in the playoff field most years...not the best team in the NFL.

Losing one player shouldn't turn this team into the NY Jets. And yet, watching this team on offense today in the second half... it looked eerily similar to the Jets. And it isn't just about execution, there is no rhyme or reason to the play calls either. 3rd and 8 deep in your own end, you run a draw with Will Shipley? That decision has nothing to do with the absence of Lane Johnson... and everything to do with the morons making the decisions.

You can hang your hat on the magic pill that when Lane comes back, everything will be ok. But, this team had issues offensively when Lane was out there. The issues have just become more pronounced with his absence. Might, hey, maybe Lane comes back and everything just magically gets fixed again. I'd love to be completely wrong and have to suffer through another parade.

They played it close to the vest but considering the circumstances it was probably the right call. They’ll open it up in the playoffs when required.

Problem is the defense doesn't have any gas by the end of the game. Next thing is injuries happen. It's also not about the offense being conservative. It's they dont have answers and are unable to adjust when defenses adjust to them. That isn't something you can turn on and off. Against good teams this is what we are getting.

I hope Eagles activate Ben VanSumeren and play him along with every single starter next week

The frustrating part is the eagles offense is like pulling teeth even though they have arguably more talent than most teams in the league. Teams with lesser talent finding ways to move the ball and score. I do think there’s an execution problem, particularly in the running game.

But to me for the Eagles offense to be as bad as it looks at times goes more to me about coaching. I know Jalen hurts has his flaws as well but their coaching should not be to the point that they are so inept that they can only get 17 yards and one first down in a half. You know how bad you have to be to do that? Even the Fing jets in the first half against the Patriots managed to do better than that (they had 76 total yards, 3 points and 3 first downs)

And then Siri lost his OC and we all saw what a fraud he was

They went 7th in points and 8th in yards the next two seasons. Not exactly disasters.

He has one the most successful first five coaching years in league history.

Things are concerning. But you can lower the vitriol a bit.

Wow

That's what a pick 6 will do.

Hurts and the offense should get a couple series regardless. They need the work. Maybe they can move the ball and score some points, give them a little confidence then sit them and let McKee and the backups go in.

I know it doesn't seem like much but just a couple series for the offense.

He's is the proxy for the entire OL. Steen is fine, but not Becton. Jurgens is mediocre at best this season. Dickerson is still hobbled. We are playing behind an average OL for the first time in Siri's five seasons.

Normally, I would be with you, but if the Eagles didn’t get that confidence from the commanders 2nd half last week and the Raiders game the week prior then I just don’t think that’s gonna do anything.

Dressing starters makes it harder to get all of them off the field when they are done. This isn't preseason.

Put them in street clothes and watch Tanner throw strikes from under center.

For the big picture, I have to imagine Howie and his team are well aware of the reality that this defense is literally oozing talent that they can't afford to keep (and carrying the team) while the NFL's most expensive offense (with only one starter headed for FA and everyone else secured long term) is absolute dead weight.

They desperately need to find a way to roll draft picks into the offense (specifically OL) and cap $$$ from the offense to the defense.

EJ keeps proving he doesn’t have the best takes or read on the team.

Sirianni would look an idiot for saying how important the #2 seed is to the team to be guaranteed a divisional round home game only to rest half the team with the #2 seed up for grabs.

It’s like a 40% chance to get the #2 seed with a Bears loss too, so it’s not some long shot.

I don’t know what they’re gonna do but I do find it interesting that every single beat guy after last week’s game after Dan Quinn talked trash they all said "You can get your revenge against the backups, because that’s who you’ll be playing) when it was always very realistic the Eagles beat the Bills and the Niners beat the Bears. So either they have insight into it or they all just kinda jumped the gun because being in the mix for the 2 seed in the final week was always a big possibility and everyone kinda penciled in the backups playing like it was a foregone conclusion.

Hey give the jets credit. In the first half against NE they had 76 yards, 3 first downs and 3 points. Thats more than the eagles had in the 2nd half lol

On sports radio they were saying Hurts most likely didn’t run on purpose this evening - making sure he’s healthy for the playoffs but will likely run a good amount during the playoffs.

I just don't understand what 2 series is going to do for Hurts and the offense when they had 16 games. They don't need work. They suck. It is what it is.

They don't play them in the 4th preseason game before week 1 (or any preseason game). Why do it now before the playoffs?

In 2023, the Eagles played the starters in an effort to not feel like dog crap heading into the playoffs. They looked like dog crap anyway and lost AJ Brown for the playoffs.
