The frustrating part is the eagles offense is like pulling teeth even though they have arguably more talent than most teams in the league. Teams with lesser talent finding ways to move the ball and score. I do think there’s an execution problem, particularly in the running game.

But to me for the Eagles offense to be as bad as it looks at times goes more to me about coaching. I know Jalen hurts has his flaws as well but their coaching should not be to the point that they are so inept that they can only get 17 yards and one first down in a half. You know how bad you have to be to do that? Even the Fing jets in the first half against the Patriots managed to do better than that (they had 76 total yards, 3 points and 3 first downs)

It's just crazy. The O puts so much pressure on the D to play perfect. Maybe that's the formula. I just wish we could run the ball more. Im not sure what the heck happened to the run blocking this year. I mean Buffalo has one of the worst run D in the league and we could not do anything in the second half.

But to speak to that field...I truly believe the Rams are the best, "scariest" and "most complete" team in the NFL.

This is a team with zero homefield advantage, a 37 year old QB not named Tom Brady. One who absolutely cannot tolerate getting flushed from the pocked and chased around...and playing behind an OL that isn't exactly a secure vault. The defense is quite good but not scary. That's a footnote in the playoff field most years...not the best team in the NFL.

Truly the NFL as a whole has been down for a few years now and that is because we lost a TON of QBs from a truly elite QB era. There are no greats playing great right now. It was Mahomes and thats it. He hasnt played elite for the last 2 years. Allen is always up and down. Lamar Jackson has never been a good post season QB. These guys arent in the same universe as so many of the QBs we have lost over the last decade who really havent been replaced by anyone of like ability.

Its worse than ever this year. But it was certainly down last year when a team like the eagles with no passing game was able to absolutely crush opponents.

It was even down a bit when the eagles and Patriots played in the super bowl with no defenses on the field at all.

For years we are looking at teams with like 14 wins and saying theyve really played no one. Lead by QBs like Case Keenum. Its because there is hardly anyone actually good to play.

Its been Eagles, Chiefs, Bills, and kinda the Ravens. Other than that, theres not been another really good team in the NFL. Just teams with good records.

Imagine having an offense like one of these teams

Its going to be a lot of tough decisions again. We have to try and keep Phillips and Dean and the rest including Reed might be the casualties. Going to be interesting.

What position has Howie had the absolute best success with and what position has he been worst at? I'm looking at that when it comes to bringing guys back. A lot also depends on the draft class and who's projected to be available or within reach for the Eagles.

Davis and Carter were blue chip 1st rounders. Nolan Smith and Jihaad Campbell were both late 1sts due to injury concerns.

He got Nakobe Dean, Milton Williams and Jalyx Hunt in the 3rd. Moro Ojomo was a 7th.

Reed Blankenship was UDFA.

Jaelan Phillips was acquired for a 3rd.

Ideally, you don't let blue chip players go. You can argue that Carter, Davis, Dean, Phillips, Smith and Campbell are all blue chip players. The Eagles are not going to be in position to add a Jalen Carter or Jordan Davis this year. Dean was considered one of the best college LB over the last decade if not ever after his career at UGA, just didn't have the size. He's a leader, he's cerebral and he brings it on every, single play. Traditionally, the Eagles have terrible at adding to the LB room.

What position can the Eagles replace easiest vs which players can they not afford to lose? Currently on the roster, it appears that LB is stocked for the future, but Nakobe Dean is such an integral part of the defense that I think he's irreplaceable. Same goes with Jaelan Phillips. I don't think Howie has drafted edge very well and he has the perfect opposing edge rusher to line up with Jalyx Hunt.

It comes down to the DT. Who do they keep?

I hope Eagles activate Ben VanSumeren and play him along with every single starter next week

is this a possibility? That would be excellent, I was excited to see our effort to implement a true fb in our offense and was bummed when he went down immediately at the beginning of the season. I know he’s not going to be some savior and Saquons gonna have huge holes to run through all the sudden - but with Lane also returning maybe we can get just enough of a boost just to get Saquons first tackler beyond the LOS, after that we all know what happens if he shakes the second defender. 2nd and 10+ needs to stop.

Did you guys see how this defense was just swarming and punishing the Bills for 3 quarters today and then just completely deflated? That can't happen in the playoffs or it's a loss unless they start blocking kicks. At a minimum, the defense needs to sit next week. The offense needs to as well, but they are such a lost cause I don't think there's anything they can do to help it or F it up worse anyway.

Can he even play?

This SF-CHI game is a nice pallet cleanser after our performance. Offenses that actually work.

I feel like Buffalo was daring them to throw due to the weather conditions. Hurts wasn’t awful throwing it but he also wasn’t great. Saw that on a couple of balls in the second half.

That said eagles were their ow worse enemy when they seems to finally get the running game to click. They actually looked like they were figuring it out at the end of the first half. Barkley had back to back to back carries of 9, 16, 4 and tank had 5 yard carry. To start the second half Barkley had back to back runs of 5 and 10. The 5 of next 6 plays are passes. After that he run game never got more than 3 yards on a run. I said in this thread after his first two runs of the half, it seems like he’s finding a groove and he’s on the verge of busting one. They just decided to stop and just hope when they went back to that well he’d pick up where he left off. He didn’t.

I also think in a playoff game with the weather being like it was, Hurts is probably running more. I didn’t see many called or designed runs for him. I think in the playoffs given the weather conditions that there would have been more Jalen hurts running. I think because this game wasn’t a must win that They didn’t want to risk him getting hurt. Frankly almost got hurt by a dirty shot on the sideline.

OMG!

Wow that was some awful defense by the bears 2 defenders allowing purdy to do that

Thats a heck of a play...when was the last time the Niners punted?

I’m the last person to give Brock Purdy credit, but that was a great scramble and throw.

I don't think we can keep Smith and Phillips. One would have to go eventually. We have to try and keep Carter and Davis but I don't think it would be possible as they would want top dollar which they deserve. Hopefully Robinson can develop and contribute next year. We also would want to keep Quinyon and Coop. Lots of big decisions.

First half

I can’t stand Brock Purdy and I hope we get a chance to knock his ass out again

First half

I’m curious to see what they look like against Seattle. That’s probably the best defense they’ve faced Houston and scored 15.

Speaking of the edge situation, the Phillips/Hunt/Smith/Graham rotation is really sizzling. I was a big Smith/Hunt fan from the beginning (although I got frustrated with Hunt after his very slow start to this season)...but I never thought Phillips would be this good or that Graham would play at this level. Davis is playing at a higher level than Milton Williams was last year too.

Sirriani all but admitted Patullo stunk in the 2nd half. It’s really unbelievable how bad that guy is

Said it last year. Said it even this year. A lot of teams think theyre pretty good playing other teams. Then they have to play us and its a whole different ball game.

I wouldn’t say they deflated, they got beat by a trick play on 4th down and a couple of circus catches where they had good coverage. No one should expect defenses to pitch a shutout in today’s NFL. If they get today’s defense in the playoffs, this team is going back to the Super Bowl.

Really? It’s worrisome the eagles can’t even be average.
