EMB Blog: 2025 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

Hmmm...they haven't announced when next week's game times will happen...I doubt it but it would be too good to be true if the Bears get the early game and the Eagles get the late game, then the Eagles could get a result that would determine if the starters play...

He deserves all the memes this week. The eagles didn’t earn the win, Josh Allen lost and nobody chokes like the Buffalo Bills

I think they purposefully structure the times so that scenario doesn’t happen.

I feel like Buffalo was daring them to throw due to the weather conditions. Hurts wasn’t awful throwing it but he also wasn’t great. Saw that on a couple of balls in the second half.

That said eagles were their ow worse enemy when they seems to finally get the running game to click. They actually looked like they were figuring it out at the end of the first half. Barkley had back to back to back carries of 9, 16, 4 and tank had 5 yard carry. To start the second half Barkley had back to back runs of 5 and 10. The 5 of next 6 plays are passes. After that he run game never got more than 3 yards on a run. I said in this thread after his first two runs of the half, it seems like he’s finding a groove and he’s on the verge of busting one. They just decided to stop and just hope when they went back to that well he’d pick up where he left off. He didn’t.

I also think in a playoff game with the weather being like it was, Hurts is probably running more. I didn’t see many called or designed runs for him. I think in the playoffs given the weather conditions that there would have been more Jalen hurts running. I think because this game wasn’t a must win that They didn’t want to risk him getting hurt. Frankly almost got hurt by a dirty shot on the sideline.

You don't have to dare this team to throw. Hell, it was a 36 degree windy downpour and the first 3 plays were all passes. If ever there was a game where they should have imposed the run game, this was it.

Cam Jurgens is trash. Just wanted to add that.

Purdy is good but he doesn't scare me. Kittle and CMC, on the other hand, do scare me. You can contain them for most of a game but eventually, they're gonna make a play.

Could’ve learned from Mike groh experiment with Doug also not working out the way they wanted. He didn’t have NFL experience as a play caller or OC (only time he was an OC was over a decade prior at UVA)

Checked and Groh is currently the WR coach for the world beater Giants. Lol. Looks like he was an overrated WR coach who got gifted a OC role. SMH. We can never fricking learn.. We need to find the O equivalent of Fangio. A tried and tested OC who has no interest in being a head coach.

Well I don't see any way to Eastern teams with really nothing at stake would get a late game...just wishful thinking

Pro Bowl is a joke like the Grammy’s. Cam has no reason to be on that roster. He’s been awful

I just don't remember too many teams that seem to always have someone open in the intermediate area of the field especially in the middle....those are usually huge back breakers for the defense

NFL is going to schedule everything early and have the battle for NFCS and AFCS be the prime time games late afternoon and Sunday night.

They went 7th in points and 8th in yards the next two seasons. Not exactly disasters.

He has one the most successful first five coaching years in league history.

Things are concerning. But you can lower the vitriol a bit.

They have won bec of the sheer amount of talent on both sides of the ball. This conversation has been had many times here. I’ll ask this for the millionth time. What is he an expert at? He can’t step in on either side of the ball to provide support. He is Dave Roberts but in the nfl. When he is done here, he will end up like Doug P, no where. Forgotten

If the bears lose the nfl will probably move one of the games to be at the same time if they are not already at the same time.

I have a harder time evaluating the playcalling when NOTHING works.

So that's why they call this offense.

Sounds like you really know what you're watching.

We just need a HC who can call plays when needed. Kellen Moore would’ve been ideal. Obviously Steichen

To not limit the QB criticism to Hurts...

Josh Allen has incredible arm talent. Like Mahomes, he has the effortless arm strength to make any 3rd and long into more of a 3rd and reasonable. (where with Hurts arm the ball isn't crossing the sticks unless it's a giant arc). And he's incredibly strong and athletic.

But he's just not a passer. Mistakes, vision, accuracy, consistency...meh, meh, meh, and meh.

Shanahan gets his share of flak, but he's one of the better offensive minds in the game. Better than his contemporaries in McVay, McDaniel, and LaFleur. If he had Stafford and Kupp in SF, they'd have at least one ring by now.

That was a damn good throw

I really struggle to dissect the playcalling. When the offense is truly moving on a drive and they call a random cutesy play that gets away from that and costs them a down and stops a drive...it's easy to point that out and take issue with it. It's easier to see a play call that disrupts the flow.

Personally, I have a harder time evaluating the playcalling when NOTHING works. You want to do that cowards draw on 3rd and 12? That's just a reflection of no confidence in your personnel. A first down run to Barkley stone walled at the LOS while Hurts can't complete a pass? I dunno, what else were they supposed to do? Not enough crossers? We saw the way the turnovers get out of hand when they unpack the route tree against a defense that isn't bottom 5 and eliminated from the playoffs.

If this defense were less spectacular, I think we'd see them take more chances on offense and have a ton more turnovers as they tried to keep pace with other teams...en route to being a sub .500 team. But they know that if the offense can eliminate turnovers entirely, they'll luck into a couple point generating drives and will probably win the game with this defense. So that's why they call this offense.

I think they’re conservativeness stems from the fact, they can win a lot of games and their records really good because the defense can put them in position to hold on or win the game.

That said I don’t think sirianni and Pattulo have full confidence in the offense for a variety of reasons. But every week there’s insight into Jt. Just go to the end of the first half. They had a chance to take a shot at the end zone and get 7 points instead of settling for 3 with the play the called and having timeouts. They do stuff like that all the time. They did that in the Tampa Bay game where they just settled for 3 instead of pushing it to try to get 7. I imagine it feels very deflating to the offense and probably guys view it as coaches don’t trust me. Which frankly is absurd considering the one thing we do well is in the red zone.

I think some of their stuff also doesn’t work because of execution. But some of it is also they don’t use their personnel to their strengths and we are week 17. The fact that Grant Calcaterra is still asked to be a blocker on run plays is so goddamn ridiculous. It hasn’t worked all year. It hasn’t worked in the past. Yet they still keep doing it. Or the fact we run the ball 82% of the time out of shotgun and it’s bottom 10 in success rate when we run out of shotgun. Some of this goes on the coaching for just not understanding who your personnel is and tendencies/self scouting.

Furthermore second half how many targets did AJ Brown get? One. At some point in time I gotta think one of the best wide receivers in the NFL should be getting more than one target in a half. Especially the three scoring drives you had he was 4 for 58 and you moved the ball. Probably should’ve also had a PI called. This is just like Dallas where they stopped finding AJ Brown, and they got themselves into trouble for 2 quarters and had 1st down from their 3rd scoring drive to the 4th quarter.

They don't grow on trees. Good OC's are called head coaches and future head coaches.

Well it looks like rest your players is gonna win

Ppl keep saying bears are frauds I dont see it.

Yes the eagles were dumb their first possession of the game. Only logic i see is they thought buffalo would sell out to stop the run and they’d catch them. But this is a keep it simple stupid moment. Attack them where they stink.

Caleb Williams throws such a beautiful ball.
