One thing I'm very intrigued to see is how this defense looks, fully healthy, for the 1st time maybe all year. Carter was clearly limited throughout the year, and seemingly at his worst after the bye (once Phillips arrived) and before he got the injections/procedures. He looked much better against Buffalo, but we didn't have Nakobe in that game. I thought Campbell played very well against Buffalo, but Dean is a much better blitzer. I think the key will be can we get pressure with 4 (blitz Dean, drop Hunt/Smith at times) - if we can, I think Purdy is in real trouble.

What they like to do, we are built well to stop. By alignment and with excellent talent and pretty swell tackling. Even Adoree hits well most times.

Purdy holds the ball a LONG time. (That won't go well against this line). They like to throw past the sticks. (Not against this D backfield). They like to work CMC and Kittle in the middle. (LBs and Coop are there). Wherever the FB lines up is the side they run to. (Dean is back; Carter/Davis/Ojo/Baun-oh my) They get lots of YAC. (Eagles tackle well). ZERO outside threat. (Should allow the safeties to cheat up and help on CMC (bracket and to limit in space)).

On the plus side for them, Purdy moves well and CMC and Kittle are beasts.

More downsides-they travel to us and are banged up at best (Purdy may be more hurt than just his thumb; CMC was nursing a sore back 2-3 weeks ago and didn't look great last week; Trent will not be 100% on that anchor leg hammy). They have NO LBs. No starting LBs at all. None. Zero. An absence of starting LBs. 🙃Their pass rush is anemic. Think I heard on a pod that the Niners have just a few more pressures that Ojo has by himself this season. Crazy weak sauce.

34-13 was my prediction. I stand by it. It will be a cakewalk. We will beat them like a f'ing drum.

The counterpoint to that would be that our defense is better now with a health(ier) JC on the line. Epps for Mukuba is a wash. The Lions have the higher scoring offense (28.3 per game, 5th in the league) as compared to the 49ers (10th at 25.7). I'd also say Detroit has much better weapons across the board, especially on the outside (St. Brown, Williams, etc.). Gibbs killed us in that game, and God bless Dan Campbell's stupidity going for every 4th down, but I also think Goff is better than Purdy but just less mobile.

I think we hold them under 20.

He is definitely speed-balling Dean in there a couple of times. Juszczyk and him at point of contact will be fun to see.

Purdy extending plays is the biggest risk, IMO.

That's with Purdy missing almost half of the season though. They're closer to 30 per game when he plays.

Yes. He is very good at it. Back 7 coverage will be a big deal. It helps us that he holds it but that is his strength too. Phillips and the line are going to have to have a big game. Hits, pressures and a couple of sacks will be necessary. If he is clean, then we will be in trouble. But I don't see it. Good line at absolute best. More realistically fair to solid with Trent in at 100%. A shade under fair without him. They aren't scrubs but without him they are in trouble.

I also think there is a significant let-down in them going from potentially having homefield all the way to and including the Super Bowl to getting knocked down to the six seed and having to travel across the country. Seattle did us a huge favor last week roughing them up.

Have Coop and Baun, and maybe Campbell every few plays, take care of the slot, TE, and middle of the field.

Trent Williams being back will make a difference. So, using the Seattle game as the barometer for SF offense is probably misleading.

I do believe Purdy will give us opportunities for interceptions, hopefully Q gets back to playoff Q and gets one.

On the other hand, as irrational as it may be, I have a feeling the Eagles play one of their best games on Sunday.

We'll see.

The key against Purdy is going to be pass rush discipline. Keep him in the pocket and collapse while maintaining contain. He is at best when scrambling for first downs

I am confident that with Lane returning the offense will elevate from dismal to effective.

There have been enough periods of competence throughout the season to be optimistic that maybe they get at least 3 quarters of ball movement. We have the talent. We are healthy and rested. And they should take bubble wrap off of Hurts.

It's finally win or go home. I don't expect the play calling to be conservative.

The problem is that they have been aggressive, getting a lead and then taking the foot off the gas. Thats ok if you can run the ball and move the chains. If that isn't working then I want to see them remain aggressive. Yeah, a high risk of turnovers but they have to control the ball. The defense is good but these guys can come back

I was referring to the taking the foot off the gas. I doubt the will continue to hand over the outcome of the game solely to Vic.

Yep...they'll go 3 and out several times and on at least one or 2 of them, they'll have a 3rd 4 and throw a very low percentage long pass down the sideline incomplete instead of simply trying to get the first down.
