There is no amount of money I wouldn’t feel safe betting in saying that Phillips will not generate a 4th or 5th round comp pick.

Looks like Russini was right about the 3rd for him

Everything I’ve seen says they will get a 4th

I wonder how healthy Nolan Smith really is

He should be good to go...

Until his next injury

Just point out Josh sweat in his 1st 5 years in the league had 28.5 sacks, 38 TFL and 59 Qb hits in 71 games. Phillips in his 1st 5 seasons (currently in 5th) has 26 sacks, 28 TFL and 61 QB hits in 55 games

And Sweat had an upward trend with a downtick leading into the SB and was healthy as a pro after college injury red flags. Phillips production has gone straight downhill after starting with a good rookie season, marred by 2 major injuries in the last 2 years. Huge difference in the trend.

Some of you are really negative. It’s a shot at maximizing the SB window for a late 3rd

Exactly. Phillips has performed well when healthy.

#permaperiod

Some of these people need Super Maxi Pads 24/7 365......

People in here acting like 3rd round picks are locks to be starters. It’s a crapshoot. Happy about the trade. Let’s go get another Super Bowl this season

Wasn't that the year where there were reports of players criticizing his coaching for being too hard?

I’m just pointing out there was a time sweat went 11 consecutive games without getting a sack from end of 2023 into the start of 2024. The running comments on this blog was his knee issue caught up with him and then he turned it into the contract he got. I would also point out the dolphins are not the Eagles. Playing alongside better players and a better coach might actually benefit him.

His stats this year show he’s getting back to form.

3 sacks (on pace for 6-7) a ton of tackles and pressures - meaning he’s trending upward this season - possibly back to form.

So he was injured 3 times in 2023 missing 9 games and then injured in 2024 missing 13 games and we spent a 3rd. Nice

The odds are he’s just ok and the Eagles won’t win the SB if you’re talking pure odds. If you want to take an ‘I told you so’ lap if the most likely scenario happens then good for you. Howie is maximizing the chances regardless

I’ve been wrong before. I’ll be wrong again. And I’d love to be wrong on this. I just don’t like Jaelin Phillips. I don’t expect him to move any needles…I could be wrong there. That remains to be seen.

But I’ll die on the comp pick hill. That’s not happening.

Sweat is remembered for one payoff run and rightfully so but, his career here wasn’t anything special. Same for Milton really.

Yep. And Sweat is pacing 10-11 sacks this season - amazing the difference health can make in performance.

I’m not really a big I told you so person, nor am I rooting for that scenario.

Was. But I’m guessing Phillips wasn’t one of them if the eagles were willing to deal for him and fangio is here. Felt like it was more secondary as it was cam smith, trill williams and jevon holland. All secondary players

Are you sure? It's not the first time Howie has brought in someone that Vic seemed to have no say in

I thought sweat had a good career here. The issue was more he was good his rookie contract as a 4th rounder. His 2022 was good but really i think everyone on the DL feasted that year. Then he disappeared last 9 games of 2023 and to start 2024. Then got himself back to where he was in 2021/2022. I think the collapse of 2023 and how poor the defense was in 2023 kind of tarnished perception of what he was prior

So I guess these 3 Defensive moves means Myles is not happening. 3 1st would have been mortgaging the future. Hopefully we get good value out of these new additions on Defense.

none of those moves required a higher round pick being involved. Like with drafting Campbell. They clearly asked fangio as you saw his reaction and he talked about it. They also asked him about letting go CJGJ and drafting Mukuba (McLane said he gave his seal of approval). i don’t think Howie is making that moves without talking to fangio since fangio coached him down in Miami in 2023.

We just traded a 3 for Jaelen Phillips.

Hate it. Loathe it

I don't really criticize Howie with draft picks, FA signings, FA non-signings, players not retained...he's the best GM in the NFL and the Eagles just deserve deference there. Howie does not, however, have a good track record at the trade deadline. He consistently has an "oh well why not let's add someone" approach and I just see this as the next in line for that.
