For a 3, we need him to be better than just OK. Whether we win the SB is beside the point IMO.

Seems like too much for an expiring contract for a guy coming off of two major injuries which the fans of his team say he has lost all of his explosiveness and speed as a result.

Eagles still have 2 3rd picks. It'll be a late 3rd rd pick. Still have the Jets 3rd and a comp

And to those being all whiney......the Eagles still have 8 draft picks all of which are 5th round or higher.

This felt like the most realistic, feasible move. I didn’t want Hendrickson. Garrett would have been a blockbuster but do you really want that deal on the books as he aged.

If Phillips is just good and nothing crazy, it’s still a great move and can help send them deep again into the playoffs.

Howie should only be short sighted at this point. He has this offense through the end of the season then potential for Goedert, Brown, Johnson, Dotson to all be gone. Get it now. The future barely exists. Does Philips crank the needle? Likely not, but depth with some skill was needed at DE. If we make the playoffs the player picked at that point in the 3rd round will likely have a 4th round grade. I'd take Philips straight up for one of Robinson, Shipley, Ringo, Z. McPhearson, K. Wallace, or Driscoll. How about you?

Not huge on this trade, just gotta hope he regains his 2023 form.

Also Breer said Miami picked up some salary to get a better return, so Lurie being broke cost the Eagles a 3rd.

I really didn’t want Howie to give up a 3rd. But there are 3 reasons I'm cautiously optimistic about Phillips.

1. His current DC is bad, Fangio is great. When Phillips played for Fangio, he was really good.

2. If you just look at Phillips’s stats and advanced stats from this season, he seems to be as good as Sweat was most of his career here. Think a lot of people forget how Sweat usually was, and instead hallucinate that we’d get the SB Josh Sweat all the time had we re-signed him.

3. Options. If Phillips explodes over the back half of the season and the team loves him, he can be a long term fit here. If he’s just fine, they’re likely looking at a 4th next year if he doesn’t get hurt again.

Bonus: They didn’t blow the Jets pick.

I originally wanted Chubb for a round lower but I think Fangio wanted Phillips & Howie probably sees his recovery trajectory pointing in the right direction. I'll defer to them (not that I have a choice anyway)

I feel it this way. You’re hoping he stays healthy. When he has, he’s been pretty good. Heck he looked better in October than he did in September coming off his injury from last year. The Eagles took a chance on Nolan Smith in the first round and hoped he’d stay healthy. And he didn’t do crap his first year, and then came on like gangbusters with Vic Fangio. I love Nolan smith but he’s not a given to stay healthy either. It’s been his issue dating back to Georgia. So just relying on smith, BG (banged up last year) hunt and uche was probably a recipe to not end well. With our rotation now it’s much better and better system/coaching might maximize Phillips.

This isn’t me saying this is a great or even a good trade. Not saying that. I’m much preferred to give up a 4th rounder than a 3rd rounder for him. That said not going to grill them for it until i see what he does here.

Yup. I liked Chubb but his 2026 cap number is ridiculous. I think they probably asked fangio who he preferred. I’m guessing Phillips. I’m guessing cause he believes if he’s healthy and retuning back to form he has higher upside. I also wouldn’t be shocked if fangio would love to have Phillips back for 2026. Gives him a trio of smith, Phillips and hunt. Not sure that happens though.
