EMB Blog: 2025 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

This roster had a lot of dreck on it. Won't be hard at all to maneuver around and find roster space. Glad Howie is in correct mode this deadline and he should keep at it. I was okay with changing the bottom 5-10 of this roster going into all of this. May not work but thankful for the attempt in doing so.

I wouldn't mind one last trade for depth at TE or DT

I'd never complain about Howie again if he got Garrett lol

After the recent transactions there are 52 players on the roster. Nolan Smith and Jakorian Bennett could come off the IR this week. With BG also returning, we need to free up 2 roster spots. I don't see another Marcus Epps phantom injury on the horizon (maye Mac McWilliams?), so who goes?

I think AJ Dillon might want to start packing his bags.
The other player to go? Could they try to sneak Granson through waivers and use him as a PS call up or use Latu as the 3rd TE? Might Patrick Johnson be the odd man out (though I think he's played well as a rotational DE and is a core ST guy).

3rd round pick chart.jpg

This doesn't seem to add up to 100%, Using approximates based on the vertical scale... 3 + 31+ 34 + 20 = 88.

Eagles Edge vs the Giants:

Jalyx Hunt, Josh Uche, Patrick Johnson, Jihaad Campbell

Eales Edge vs the Packers:

Jalyx Hunt, Nolan Smith, BG, Jaelan Phillips

Does Josh Uche even dress?

Yes he dresses. If only to let BG ease into playing. Phillips may have a somewhat limited snap count as well as he gets acclimated. With BG active I would expect Robinson to be inactive rather than Uche.

Not that I put much stock in Florio and Simms takes but they seem to think the Eagles got an elite player who may be fully back by the time playoffs start. They also say that he was one of the only players that liked Fangio in Miami and that Fangio liked him

Eagles acquire EDGE Phillips from Dolphins

"The rich get richer” according to Mike Florio and Chris Simms as the Eagles acquire edge rusher Jaelan Phillips from the Dolphins before the trade deadline.

Their remaining schedule is statistically one of the easiest in the NFC. Their challenge will be climbing over one of the top-seven teams - PHI, LAR, GB, DET, TB, SF, and SEA. All of whom are objectively better.

Another issue with Dallas is their away and home splits on offense. At home their offense is averaging 41.3 points. On the road averaging 24.4. Defensively they’ll give up a ton of points home or away. Dak also Has 4 ints on the road and 1 at home. Qb rating drops by 22.5 on the road. So need to be scoring in the 30s to win (given up 30+ in 5 of 8 games). they only have 1 tough road game left at Detroit. Raiders, giants, and commanders are awful defensively. So it’s likely a shootout type games.

Wouldn't mind someone like Dalvin Tomlinson if he can be had for a minimal offer

How the roster shakes out is going to be interesting. I can see Robinson going on IR since his primary need is lots of time in the weight room getting stronger. With the IR moves of Epps and Ojulari plus the holding back of BG’s activation, the roster was at 52. Phillips makes it 53. When BG comes in I could see Byron Young getting released. Spots need to be made for Jakori and Nolan though.

I don't disagree on Robinson but that leaves them with just Young and Ojomo. If someone gets hurt I'm not sure who will be on the street. That's why I don't mind another trade for DT depth. That TE and maybe safety (long shot) are the only other moves I can see him making.

12% dysfunctional backup / not cut (Sydney Brown?)

I like the trade for several reasons, including those already mentioned: having played for Vic, good play in October, position of need, etc. What hasn't been mentioned but which I also like is that his experience with Vic's system should help him to mentor Hunt and Smith. I also like that he's a bigger body. We've been a bit light on the edge and teams have run wide on us with some success. Adding Phillips, and BG, should improve our edge run defense. We were essentially playing with three edge guys and Campbell as our rotation. It looks a LOT better now.

Phillips only played in Vics defense for 1 season so technically smith and hunt have played in Vics scheme longer

I respectfully disagree.

Doesn’t matter. Dallas isn’t a player away on defense anyways. He wouldn’t solve their problems

Hendrickson might be a good short term move. Most likely a bad long term move. Hendrickson may have overplayed his hand with being on the wrong side of 30 and now getting dinged up with the hip. You don't give up heavy draft compensation and then have to pay long term what he's looking for......unless you are the Redskins. Risky deal at this point.

So so let me get this straight…. He hated Fangio for helping him be at his best in his career. And now your argument has morphed into he isn’t the same player anymore after leading the league in pressure rate in october (don’t disagree he isn’t the same player)… but holy pivot from your initial argument of dolphins players hated fangio and you inferring he was one of them…

No need to get your panties in a bunch Nancy. It is okay for people to have hesitations giving up a 3rd for a guy on an expiring contract who is coming off of two major injuries.

I'm not pivoting at all. My two initial reactions to the trade were trading for a guy who played on a defense where there were reports of a lot of guys hating playing for Fangio and also the reports from Dolphin fans on this guy that he seems to have lost a lot of his ability coming off of two major injuries.

Do you thing they'll unretire VanBuren's number for Phillips?

Further on the fraudulent Bears...they have the worst strength of victory among teams with winning records.

I'm not saying the roster is the same but the Bears remind me a little of the 2023 Packers without a Dak and the Chokers at the 2 seed.

No one thinks they are very good. No one expects them to be very good. They are finding ways to win.

Next year is when I expect them to jump up in class. This year the Eagles should crush them.

This is what a 7 seed is. Beat the bad teams, steal a game somewhere, and squeak in at 9-8. Or they just miss out and get ready for 2026.

Looking at Phillips vs Hendrickson this year, Phillips has 9 more tackles (25 vs 16) one less sack (3 vs 4) and is 4 years younger. In watching him, it does seem like he is Sweat type player vs Chubb who is a more BG type player. Throw in Phillips having played under Fangio, I can see why they feel he is the Edge they needed and why they gave up their 3rd. And, I think he will produce more sacks here. He was getting a lot of double teams that he likely won't see next to Carter/Davis.

One guy played 117 more snaps this year

You're right, of course, but there is another variable to consider: Jerrah.

There is no amount of money I wouldn’t feel safe betting in saying that Phillips will not generate a 4th or 5th round comp pick.

I’ll bet you your favorite morning beverage against my favorite morning beverage. The loser can set up a prepaid order at the location of choice. My beverage will be a cafe mocha at Peet’s.

Cause dolphins fans are somehow most knowledgeable fan base in the nfl now? Lol. Cause a lot of giants fans also told us Barkley wasn’t worth the money and some even said he was washed.

Meanwhile people who track pressure rate over the last month say he’s been doing very well and getting better. Top 5 in the nfl over that time. Not surprising, he’s beginning to look better because he’s a full year removed from having his ACL surgery now.

But ok Susan don’t get bent out of shape cause you got called out on your pivoting

Yup. Depth in those 3 positions would be forward thinking for next year and this year. I'm liking another vet DT in here.
