The Eagles worked out Zach Pascal. He’s probably a better blocker than Calcaterra.

Probably? No, he's definitely better.

Good news. I got an email back from VABeach_Eagle, he is ok. He has been tending to his mother's health as she's been in the hospital, and exhausted lately. He says he will be more available to log on

I think the SB will be won by the hot team this year. Not exactly venturing out on a limb, but I mean any of the playoff teams peaking at the right time could take it. Wide open field.

This is why I think now is actually the time to risk turnovers and tinker with the offense. If they get their offense sorted out...and it doesn't have to be great, just reliable...the Eagles will be the overwhelming favorite to repeat. No other team at their level.

If they don't sort it out...I still like them head to head, especially in a big game, against any team in the NFL. But 3-4 consecutive games. against playoff competition with their offense as-is? Their luck WILL run out in one of them.

I know we want the 1 seed, but we've got to tinker now. There just is no benefit to playing scared on the offensive side of the ball trying not to turn it over and, by extension, practically not trying to score. They can afford to do this right now.

Lane's contract is a monstrosity - I modeled it once in Excel, but it was a pain. There's just a TON of dead money from his old contracts rolling through. I "think" his dead money if he retired this offseason will be between 40-45mm, so maybe OTC is right at $40.189mm (I think they may be low, as I get closer to $45mm). That can be split up between 2026 and 2027. You'd create some 2026 cap room and have a big 2027 hit of like $25-30mm.

Is that because of all the void years Howie did for Lane during his career?

Short answer. Yes.

Longer answer. Yes, but it kept the price down and we won a Super Bowl. 🤷‍♂️

Screenshots it is

The one thing that is a constant with this team... we can't just have nice things.

I should have clarified: as an in-line blocking TE.

OK, this is great data. But let's take the next step and ask ourselves: WHY??

Kevin Patullo and Nick Siriani are not a 2nd grade Madden beginner who keeps picking the same Madden play. Maybe they are good at designing an offense. Maybe they are terrible at it. But they are professionals. That means they have more routes memorized in the back of their minds than all of us on the blog combined. Siri was a freaking WR himself.

So WHY the incessant hitch routes? Do they just want their receivers to run the same route every time?

I'm sorry, but this keeps going back to what they can and cannot run with Hurts, the tush push, and trying to avoid turnovers. When the Eagles want to test a defense downfield, it's a deep ball on a go route along the sidelines asking a WR to run under it and beat their coverage. Minimal risk or chance of turnover...and if it is, it's a punt. The rest of the field isn't utilized...harder to process, easier to toss an INT.

Every other team in football history runs their hitch routes either as coverage sucking decoys or terminates them just beyond the sticks for first down targets. The Eagles run them short of the sticks and target these routes. The coverage is softer, DBs are less likely to jump routes short of the sticks, and a reception gets them in tush push range. Kellen Moore did the same thing last year. It just worked better.

This is a foundational principle of the Eagles passing offense. These hitch routes are both what Hurts is comfortable throwing and what the coaches are comfortable having him throw. The whole offense is built around getting into short yardage situations. Last year, they reliably did so with big runs on early downs, more Hurts runs with success, and efficient short completions with these routes. This year, the running aspect is gone and the league has caught on to their approach.

Siri has literally, openly said, they call plays like it's 1st and 9 and the defense doesn't know it. The hitch route obsession is a product of that approach. They didn't forget the other routes and the rest of the playbook at home. I don't know how good it's going to look if they open it up with Jalen Hurts throwing all over the place. And neither do the coaches. That's why they won't do it.

I don’t know if I agree fully with this but there’s a lot of truth in it.

Jalen Hurts has 16,662 passing yards and 101 passing TDs in 76 regular season starts (plus 15 extra 2020 passes to make up for missing most of the 2nd DC game in 2024)

You would think those numbers are low if you were a complete imbecile who did not know that players can run with the football in the NFL, even QBs!

I know its a new concept with Randall, McNabb, and Vick here before. Some things just take 50 years to sink in. 41 just isn't enough for the truly dim.

Now you add the 3398 rushing yards with 61 rushing TDs and he's at 20,060 and 162.

Hey, he's at 20k yards in 76 starts and change now!

McNabb was at 16,407 and 115 plus 2422 and 20. (including his time before he was a starter)

Wait a minute! That's only 18,827 and 135. Maybe propaganda clowns meant to say McNabb was historically bad and they mixed up Eagles QBs?

Wentz was a really impressive 18,737 and 127 passing in his first 76 starts. He ran for 1169 and 9. Math Again! Addition is so hard!

19.730 and 136. That's pretty low for a #2 overall pick. Only about 300 yards behind Hurts but those 26 TDs? That's like 5 less TDs a year for Wentz and McNabb.

At least Carson went to 2 Super Bowls.

01jx5vy37jg9efe9xtgp.jpg

Imbeciles also think Jalen Hurts only has 10 playoff TDs. He actually has 20. Its that running thing again. It just won't stop screwing up the agenda!

I am sure this impotent threats of violence scumbag knows that Jalen scores lots of playoff rushing TDs.

AP24046776768444-scaled.jpg

He's got 20 TDs and 2194 yards in 9 playoff games. So we can pretend its 1.1 TDs and 201.4 yards per playoff game but its really 2.2 TDs and 243.7... with 3 turnovers in 9 games.

McNabb had 11 turnovers in his last 5 playoff games. I wonder if that cost Philly a SB win and a shot at going to another?

Could you imagine a QB who could actually get us to 2+ Super Bowls as the actual starting QB by age 26? Man, that guy would really be HATED!

We didn't run this offense with Steichen, and it was the best offense we ever ran.

I don’t know if I fully agree with what I’m saying either. I’m not as hard lined as I used to be. I’ve just feel like I’ve been observing this a ton over the last 3 years with multiple play callers and I feel like the hitch route data is a bit of a peak behind their curtain. So I’m trying to explain it.

Power Rankings are beauty pageants, just like that poop stain on the Devils who won MVP and inferior Josh Allen taking Lamar Jackson's MVP last year.

Rice had 21 TDs in 12 games in 1987 with Young throwing 10 TDs to 0 picks and Montana being far worse including scab stats.

The popularity club voted for Elway and Montana a bunch so Elway won the MVP... in a year when Rice had 22 rushing and 23 total TDs in 12 legit games.

Elway also had 23 TDs (19 and 4) as a QB... with 12 picks... MVP

You can be 100% sure of this for all those power rankings. If the Eagles had the exact stats as the Rams with the exact scores and the Rams had the Eagles...

Its close, but were giving #1 to LA based on the head to head win.

That’s fair. 2022 looked different. 2021, 2023, and 2024 were all the same. Started off more aggressive in the air and then retracted into what we see now in an attempt to keep it simple and cut down on turnovers. 2024 had the historic running game on its side. And for 2025 with Patullo, they embraced this identity and never started off the way they did in other years.

JMO, I don’t think 2022 is just sitting there waiting to be recaptured and the only reason that lightning hasnt struck twice is Siri, Brian Johnson, and Patullo not being decent play callers.
