EMB Blog: 2025 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

I know this is obvious but one of the biggest differences to last year is that with a big lead, this team just can't drain any meaningful time of the clock. The lack of a reliable run game is the biggest culprit of this but we simply gave the Cowboys too many chances by not being able to work the clock effectively.

That 3Q was just brutal. 4th quarter was a little bit better but the turnovers and penalties killed us

What I find funny with Siriani is his core values don’t align with how this team plays every week. There are so many dumb penalties every single week. Just beyond stupid penalties. Like how many times do I have to watch Special teams commit four penalties on 7 punts? It is every week. At some point in time either you’re bullshitting us with what your core values are or they’re not getting through to your players which is a coaching problem.

You didn’t see a tough, detailed, together football team out there?

I actually don’t think parts of the "menu” are necessarily that bad. There have been flashes this year whether in the first quarter today, the second half against the Rams, and the Minnesota game where this has looked like an efficient unit. The penalties absolutely killed them today and the first down runs into the line of scrimmage were useless. But there is something there to work with if you get the right person in there who knows how to string together plays.

The most maddening part of the offense is how they go into a shell after a penalty or negative play. 2nd and 15 is a death sentence for this offense compared to how Dallas had a 2nd and 25 and scored in two plays.

Frankly, there were plays in the second half that were called that worked but because we committed a stupid penalty to screwed ourselves. The Dallas goedert reception on 2nd down was a great play call at that time. It’s too bad we can’t lineup properly on it. Which goes back to Nick Sirianni and his Bs core values that clearly aren’t sinking in because we do some of the dumbest crap every week.

Their attention to detail has been missing attention and detail all year lol

The Eagles get called for an illegal formation on an RPO pass play for a first down every week(usually Goedert). The fact that they haven’t corrected this is just yet another indicator of poor coaching.

I'd like to see a full game with DeJean as the other outside CB with Carter playing slot in the nickel package. That's what they went to today after Jackson went out. Outside of Carter running into Quinyon on the big Pickens catch at the end, I didn't hear his name called much which is always good for a corner. There's just too much liability going with the Jackson/Bennett combo at CB2.

I really feel like if a good CB prospect falls a little, (kinda like Dejean did) that the Eagles should consider drafting one maybe 2nd round.

You can patch CB2 with a free agent and hope it works out but if a top CB is available, take him to pair opposite Q. Could be a good young nucleus in the secondary for years to come.

Frankly, you don’t need to be able to run to burn clock with having the receiving weapons we have. Cause with how good they are and mismatches they are, they should be getting open. It’s easier if you can run like we did last year.

But I pointed this out, AJ Brown had one target in the 2nd and the 3rd quarter. Do you know how many he had in the first quarter when the ball was moving? 6. Means the rest of the game he had 4. And over the span of 2 quarters when the offense completely disappeared he had 1. This is why AJ Brown is pissed off. Because he’s great enough that he can jumpstart this offense and it gets going. Heck 4th quarter he gave you receptions of 13, 19 and 11 on 3 targets. Yet the eagles instead of just going back to that well they decided Barkley and cooper should get 4 targets.

Tbh i think if there’s an OT available late 20s it has to be the pick. Lane has been in and out. We could use a OT that can swing inside to guard until lane is ready to retire

Kind of also think a WR is on the table considering aj might not be here next year.

lol probably shouldn’t listen to the radio tomorrow… or maybe he should

I hope tomorrow I hear about a demotion or firing.

Not likely on a short week

They tackled at least two DL on yhe same play and no flags

The biggest issue with the offense is the run game. It's been the identity of this team for years. On top of having a dominant O-line and being able to run the ball you also had Hurts getting his runs in as well. This just hasn't been the case this year. Sirianni and Patullo deserve blame of course but we need to add Stoutland to the blame list. I know he's been a constant for years and a big reason for the teams success over the years but this year hasn't been good for him. Injuries have taken a toll with Lane, Jurgens and Dickerson.

If the run game had been even just a little better we'd be able to better control the clock and sustain drives while improving the offense. I wasn't expecting a repeat of the 2024 run game with Barkley but I figured it at least be effective and still one of the better parts of the offense.

Not making excuses for Patullo but I dont think if Steichen or Moore were currently the OC that things would be much better if the run game isnt working like it hasn't been this year.

This is what needs to be fixed first. But if there are too many injuries on the O-line not sure if it can be fixed.

Looking at the play by play, I really don’t think they let their foot off the gas. They sprinkled in a few more runs, but it really was the penalties that killed it.

Up 21-0: First down was a run to Barkley. Second down pass to Smith. False start by Jurgens for turning his damn head at a medium pace. Incomplete pass on third down.

Up 21-7, first drive of the third quarter: Pass to Calcaterra. Pass to Goedert to Dallas 40 that was called back because we were too dumb to line up correctly. Incomplete passes on second and third downs.

Up 21-7: Six play drive with two first down runs, including a 5-yarder, and four passes.

Up 21-7 after Aubrey missed a FG: This was probably the worst drive. Two Barkley runs and a Hurts scramble led to a three and out.

Up 21-14: Six of seven plays were called passes with a Hurts two-yard run on a read option (If I’m remembering the play correctly, it was the high-step). Smith had the OPI on this drive that called back a Goedert pass to the Dallas 35. Brown followed it with a false start. It was 1st and 25 and we scrambled to get a FG try that we missed.

Tied 21-21: Seven plays, all called passes. Ends on a Barkley fumble. Devonta also had a catch down to the Dallas 12 that was called back due to an illegal hands to the face.

Tied 21-21: All passes on our final drive, ending in a sack.

I agree. But if a top CB falls to the 2nd, Eagles should consider taking him to pair with Q if they plan on keeping Dejean in the slot.

I’ve been watching Giants fan Bad Dog since the Daniel Jones draft debacle and he never disappoints. He’s just as fond of Giants DC Shane Bowen as lots of posters here are about his Eagles OC counterpart Patullo.

Cooper to safety might now be necessary.

I agreed that the running game has to be better and they have to figure out how to get it going. Cause it would make the Eagles having a lead and salting it away much easier. However, I don’t think the Rams are some great rushing team either. They do it with Davante Adams and puka. That’s how they put teams away. The issue to me is the Eagles try to get cute. Like you don’t need to be calling a play on 3rd down and 2 where Cooper is the first read. last week the did the same thing with granson on a critical 3rd down.

The term is KISS. Keep it simple stupid. Third and two with the game in the balance, you’re either throwing it to AJ Brown or you’re throwing it to Smith. If you have another pass play called where it’s not going either one of those two guys you’re frankly stupid. Dallas had not stopped those 2 all Fing day. They had 14 catches for 199 yards.
