EMB Blog: 2025 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

Featured Replies

Just as a fan, I’d rather not watch the sport optimized for one surface and no weather conditions. The 2024 eagles were an oddity, but there are only really a few offensive and defensive schemes being used at the pro level. The college game (aside from Iowa and the military academies) is almost completely homogenized. Do you want to get to the point where you are watching the same game on each channel with just different logos (ie basketball).

I was thinking more about the divisional rounds. Both were narrow wins and both were against dome teams. Maybe they win anyway if it was in a dome but I wouldn’t want to find out.

That's true too. There's a long history of this team beating dome teams in the playoffs at home. There's a definite advantage to teams that play outdoors when they play dome teams in the playoffs. And, I'd say that there's no real advantage for dome teams against opponents, other than the noise factor. But, I believe dome teams have lost many more games to away outdoor teams in the playoffs than dome teams have beaten teams on the road outdoors.

3rd and 10? Run 1.

3rd and 2 with the game on the line? Pass 1!

You have to make it there first

Very true.

But if you dont win it when you get there, it doesn't really matter.

Personally I think the whole outside in the elements thing is more an old school mentality and its kind of fading. Im old school myself but i could care less what the conditions are. Just want to see the best game possible. The elements dont make the game, the teams do. I dont think the newer generations care much about playing in the elements but I could be wrong. Pretty much every new stadium being built is a dome or indoor stadium or has some kind of retractable roof. Seems like that's the trend.

The Linc

Is that because it was outside or because they had the home fans behind them and didn't have to travel?

Both.

100% this.

Visiting the in laws, someone asked me "what happened to your Eagles last week?"

😒

I get that ish too. But, I get it from my parents..... who are Eagles fans!!

Seeing them today, for like 5 hours, so I'll have to explain how/why the Iggles lost. Like, they think I'm an Eagles Coach or something. 🙃🏈

And its a bad trend. @Waiting4Someday really hit is on the head. Domes are far too homogenized. The game becomes homogenized. Football is an outdoor game, and should always be played outdoors.

It’s the trend because it’s boosts owners profitability. I’d say the folks willing to sit outside in freezing temps with wind/snow is a niche portion of the fanbase. Unless you’re a very good, in demand team, you will draw more visitors in a dome. Plus you get to bring in more concerts/events/special attractions in a controlled climate.

If given the option I would choose to be outdoors always. I just don’t see the Eagles being a dome team both as currently constructed and as they have been in the past.

Thats fine and thats your opinion. But its not the way things are going as far as new stadiums being built.

You are correct, and I can rage against the machine.

I mean I dont think we have to worry about the Eagles being a dome team anytime soon.

Have they discussed future plans for a dome or roof?

It won't change anything, but there's a mild catharsis.

It’s been hinted at but I would agree it’s not anytime soon.

I just don’t understand why any fan would actively be pushing for one.

Some fans want a Super Bowl in Philly. I'm not sure why. I admit I'm very petty about certain things. I don't want one (or both) of our endzones painted in another team's colors, not do I want a team winning one on our field.
