It's literally the same thing, one just looks better for optics because if you don't get to do the second one, then no one can make comments like this, and because your team has more morale since they're "not out of the game".

No matter what, you have to do it, but putting it off makes it look better. You can say things like "We almost had it" if you miss conversion after the second, which makes people feel fuzzy or whatever.
