EMB Blog: 2025 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

Yes for one season. fwiw San Diego thought Steichen was a terrible play caller and Moore was on a downward trajectory when Sirriani hired them. He should get credit there. His internal promotions have been trash

The problem isn't internal promotions, the problem is not having the internal guys to promote on the coaching staff. The Dolphins aren't good, but that's the kind of thing we need to do coaching staff structure wise, they have two former NFL coordinators on the coaching staff. This isn't a problem when we don't go deep into the playoffs, but when we go to the Super Bowl, we end up settling.

Wasn't expecting the Eagles defense to get run on like it was a high school defense. Very surprised.

That and the Hurts fumble on the Tush push were the biggest killers. Seems like thats the opposing teams strategy now on the Tush push is for someone to get into Hurts arms and try to rip it away. Maybe its best the play is banned and put to rest. It was a nice run but let's just run some QB sneaks and maybe use Barkley and Tank on short yardage instead of the push.

Hurts getting confused on that early third down with Dotson and smith wide open and deciding to just throw at the CB stuck in no man’s land trying cover both was a huge part too. If smith doesn’t come back and knock that ball down it’s probably an easy INT.

If only the Eagles fans would act accordingly rather than expecting nothing less than a dynasty, which is honestly just annoying. Here's the blatant truth.

People know that successful OCs for Hurts are probably good, so any time we go far, they'll get plucked. Until we have succession plans, we are a "tick-tock" team. Tick tock meaning strong year, less strong year, strong year, less strong year, repeat.

Our biggest fail is not hiring within, it's not planning out who to hire in advance if we end up so deep in the season it disadvantages us. There's a difference between having that hire be someone brand new, or someone you stashed as Senior Offensive Assistant for this exact reason.

We are now entering from the collapse of 2023 til now where pass offense that he can’t consistently get itself working with amount of talent they have. We can say he needs a senior offensive assistant to be there in case this happens. But the reality is Jeffrey lurie doesn’t want that in his head coach. Lurie wants someone who’s innovated and creative as HC to bring that to the offense. He wants a head coach that when there’s a problem in the offense knows how to go about it and fix it.

we can say the problem is Jalen or not. I really am not gonna argue that point right now. But what I do know is that Nick Sirianni for the last two years has not been able to solve the riddle of fixing his pass offense to get it to be consistent. Regardless of whether or not Kellen Moore is here or if it’s Pattulo or if it was Brian Johnson if we really wanna go back to the end of 2023.

can keep hiring different coordinators. it will eventually not matter as the passing attack has been erratic for better part of 2 years. We’ve had 3 different OCs with 3 passing game issues. at some point in time, the head coach needs to go in there and fix the problem because it’s his offense. These are his designs and what he wants to do. The OC shouldn’t be saving his ass when problems become this big.

being a CEO coach is great until you can’t win big just being a CEO coach anymore. Ask Mike tomlin. He and patullo are getting exposed by other teams/coachint who are matching our talent by out-scheming them and also utilizing their talent/personnel better. The playing field becomes harder when the scheming becomes greater than your scheming, and the talent is almost there to be your equal.

And this does not absolve Jalen hurts. Because he has not been good since the bye week. Frankly, he’s look like he’s regressed back to what he was in 2021 as a passer.

agreed you have to do so something and this is the thing you can do now

Sherman and Tony were killing him in the halftime. I wasn't expecting Sherman to straight up say fire KP

I’ve resigned myself to the offense being a trainwreck, but aim really shocked st how feeble the defense was. They got punked.

He is so easily the biggest problem, unless the biggest problem is sirianni. There are teams with far worse OL than us that are running the ball effectively and teams with worse receivers/QBs throwing more effectively.

Played too many plays Sunday and Vic doesn’t rotate much. Once O went 3 and out a few times it became an avalanche

I’m not saying one bad thing about the defense today, even though they had a bad day.

They’re worn out, and probably don’t give a F anymore because they know there’s no hope with this offense and coaching staff.

Not that it’s ok, but these are humans. They are only going to put it all out there for so long with the offense hanging them out to dry like this.

I don’t know how I feel about the Carter extension anymore. I know they’ll probably give it to him, but he’s either not 100% or has regressed this season. Might want to save some of that money for Nakobe, DeJean, and Quinyon. It would be an easier decision if he was a defensive leader and a glue locker room guy, but he’s a head case to add onto it.

Supposedly he has a shoulder injury that will need surgery after the season.

I’d be more worried about him doing something stupid than him being dominant physically next season.

I do think Nick is a problem but there's no way in hell an owner fires the HC with Nick's resume. That's not just realistic. They'll change everything else but Nick (Vic is obviously safe too)

They’d play better if we had an offense

There's no way Lurie & Howie won't demand changes now.

Run defense has been an issue at times this year. Tbh i know it was a short week but ojomo and young were really atrocious in this game against the run. Davis and Carter weren’t much better but ojomo and young really shouldn’t have been out there

They got punked and still held the bears to 10 points through 3 quarters. On the defense's worst day they're still pretty damn good. If the offense was even pedestrian they would've won this game and the cowboys game on the back of the defense.

I think Lurie likes Hurts more than Nick much to the chagrin of many on this board

There's no great team this year and it was doable. If there was a team to repeat it could be have been them, on the basis of having an elite defense for a long time. It's self destructing right now in front of our eyes. Losing to the Cowboys and Bears, who are solid teams, but nothing special and the manner in which they lost is unacceptable. Besides the offense sucking, they ran it down our throats.Think Howie's approach this offseason set the tone for what you sre seeing. He let one too many guys and expected too many scrubs to step up, who have really showed us nothing. Adoree, Ringo, Sydney Brown, Byron Young, Brett Toth to name a few. This defense should dominate. It's still solid, but should be chamionship caliber for the talent and pieces that were there. Ultimately hiring Kevin Patullo also falls on his lap. So again the approach has been off since winning, in doing moves that are Superbowl or bust type moves.

Yup, this absolutely crushed any hole of the 1 seed unless they win out (they won't). 2 conference losses in a row, one against one of the other top NFC teams in the 1 seed race.

Sirriani should be FORCED to take over play calling the rest of the year.

And he is coaching / play calling for his job.

Time for Nick Kotite to fire Patullo. He should nut up as the "leader” of the team and take over play calling for the rest of the year.

God knows we don’t need his CEO skills on the defensive side.

Then, if they still melt down, he gets fired. Hurts gets the first 4 games of next year to see if things improve with the new coach.

If not, bye.

Fool's errand, he can't coach Hurts, that's why we're in this situation in the first place. Honestly, the biggest problem we have is that we are NEVER going to be able to tell whether the problem originates from Hurts, Nick, or literally just the two of them together. My money is on the two of them together. It's a bad marriage in which neither one of them is the problem, but the compatibility is horrible.

Schematically to be clear. They have similar competitive drive, but schematically they are oil and water. Nick needs guys that are a bit more traditional, Hurts is the opposite - in some ways a new breed of QB.

Doing this is pretty much just saying fire Nick.

Yeah hard not to agree with ya there.

Lol my default when we didn't make it was the Packers because of Rodgers. Packers lost me after bishing about the sneak. Next up was Lions

Maybe Bucs. I could stomach Rams I guess

The offense being lackluster is no excuse for the defense to give up over 200 yards rushing. They were getting gashed earlier in the game when fresh.

Teams are going to copy and try to run on the Eagles. Vic better make some adjustments.

If they make a change, they've waited too long. HFA will be a major climb now, the time to try something new was weeks ago. Not that I think it'll change much, but if it does, we'll be thinking they should have done this long ago.

The team has done so many baffling things this season. From complacency with coaches, to weird signings and trades, to playing injured guys who clearly are hurting them on the field, to bizarre roster decisions all year - why is Gipson still on the roster? is the most recent one.

Sirianni talked about how they won't let 2024 affect them, but they very clearly operate like a team that thinks their crap don't stink.

If this is 2023 again, then don't wait. Make drastic changes now. Demote Patullo & let Loefler or Siri call plays. Why wait?

It would help them see if OC change made a difference or not.
