EMB Blog: 2025 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

Not that it's a big deal, but why is Jermaine Johnson making public statements about the team's trades like he's some 10 year vet that is headed to Canton as a franchise icon?

The trades were also pretty bad if you look at them as a whole. He traded Pickett for DTR, which was a disaster. The problem was compounded by drafting McCord who was also a disaster. So he had to fix it by trading again for another QB.

I mean to be fair, how often are teams hitting on their third quarterback, let alone sixth round QBs not named Tom Brady?

As much as some folks want to slam the Jets - they’ve had a heck of a day.

Acquired THREE first round picks, one 2nd round pick and two (potentially) starting caliber players for a decent (not elite) CB and a DT who has been asking for a trade all year.

They won the trade deadline day, imo.

Now what they do with their newly acquired draft capital is another story.

Think of all the draft picks they'll get in return once those drafted players demand to be traded in 2029 and beyond!

Don't forget they got John Metchie as well....

If they traded him after June 1 then they can spread hit over 2 years. And 2027 draft is supposed to be good so I could see Howie forgoing immediate gratification for a stronger return

Drive up the price too.

If you are looking at it in singular years, Howie had a bad 2025. Some of it was by design by letting players walk for money while setting up to pay big money to some of your own guys.

Every FA brought in during the off-season has stunk though. Uche is the best and he's just ok. Smith was a good signing at the time and played well when he was here, but that's the risk you take signing an old guy dragging his feet to sign with the team.

The trades were also pretty bad if you look at them as a whole. He traded Pickett for DTR, which was a disaster. The problem was compounded by drafting McCord who was also a disaster. So he had to fix it by trading again for another QB. The CJGJ trade ended up pretty pointless. Bennett might be good but is still TBD and Booker has been decent. The best trade he made was getting rid of Huff and getting a condition that's attainable while getting San Fran to take on money. As far as the in season trades, we'll see how they end up. Bigsby was decent even though they wasted half the season with him on ST's only. Phillips very well could be good.

With all that said, it's important to keep in mind the Eagles are 6-2 and a big part of that is because Howie had a fantastic 2024. He's still the best GM in the NFL.

He traded Pickett for DTR and a pick. DTR was a throw in. It largely amounted to Pickett for Howell I think but haven't done the accounting on it.

Overall I think your definition of disaster is a bit exaggerated.

Signing Huff last year to big money was a disaster (in isolation of course). Minor trades or signings not working out is really the norm. You're really only expecting an occasional hit there

Because a lot of players have to put all their thoughts on social media.

Beyond that he's only still there because some team didn't offer enough for the Jets to trade him. It probably almost happened and quite frankly good easily happen in the offseason

Signing Huff on the same day and for twice as much money as AVG got at MIN, makes me think Vic was not consulted…

But didn't Howie see he posted a bible verse on Twitter???

Someone let Dianna Russini know. She seems to think otherwise

Howie has been in correction mode and chasing his tail since the offseason. HOWEVER, think he's a master at keeping optionality and correcting on the run. I am in neutral now regarding his performance. It is pending on this trade deadline. Specifically Phillips working out. And one of 3 CBs working out between CJ, JA & will put JB in this bunch, since hes like a new pickup at the deadline and should play after bye week. If one of those 3 don't 💩 the bed like Adoree or Ringo, he has executed the correction and comes out smelling like roses as per usual. Optimistic that it pans out. Want him to comb the waiver wire and cuts to add more depth going into the playoffs. We will have a large advantage if any ring chasers escape free in the next few weeks from teams looking to play their youth.

I have found two good restaurant in Paris in 20 years. My FIL’s favorite Italian restaurant and a restaurant with jalapeño gravy for their chicken fried steak. There isn’t a decent BBQ place in town. It’s east Texas and crap BBQ. (It’s Dickey’s/Soulman’s bad. Kind of a dying town. Got to go to Blossom for a liquor store. Sulphur Springs is not much better. Now Greenville, I like. Lot of poor in the Paris area, and next door in Red River county, it is real bad. The rampant bigotry is like stepping back about 75 years. And for some reason, they didn’t like my Eagles Super Bowl Champions shirt there on my last visit. Commerce may be the worst speed trap I have ever seen. Coming from the west or Houston I drive through there regularly and see a person pulled over just about every time. They grew (and still do to some degree) so much cotton in that part of east Texas that the soil is crap nowadays. I like the area down around and south of I20 more than the I30 corridor. More rolling and prettier. But then I live in the hills in south central PA now and that beats any place in east Texas in my way of thinking.

I love the drive from BWI to Harrisburg on 83 cornfields for miles, occasionally I would take 15 from Dulles to H'burg, rural PA is very beautiful. My brother moved to the Reston/Fairfax area for a while before getting out to Round Hill so I started flying to Dulles more to see him. Luckily I don't travel as much as I used to. There are two places I have always said I would consider moving to if I ever left TX, that would be central KY (between Louisville & Lexington)and south central PA (York area maybe a little north).

Yeh, it's a mixed bag in Texas, just like anywhere else especially in the south, there's good people, and there's people you just don't spend much time around if you can avoid it, and East Texas has plenty of those folks. I am 13 miles from Greenville. Crazy people there back in the day, related to cotton, they had a sign entering the town that said "blackest land whitest people", it wasn't meant to be a slight (or so they say) but a reference to the fertile black soil for the cotton industry. Horrible decision to put it up either way, they finally took it down in the 60's but my grandmother, who worked in fields herself, used to tell us about how horrible the racism was in the area. Poor doesn't know color is what she always told us, anyway, that's a sensitive subject and I have prob said too much already, I'm glad she raised us the way she did. Good people are good people, and you can always tell by the way they treat you, I'll leave it at that.

Lehigh was undefeated and ranked #4 in the FCS division. Little Sisters of the Poor? BTW they still show as undefeated. How could UH beat them and they be 9-0?

Roundball not football. Sorry for the confusion. Pretty sure UH would beat them in football too. (7-2) in FBS. UH is #2 in the polls in basketball and that was the opener for both. If you like basketball with actual defense check out my Coogs. (Was hoping the 76ers would sign J’wan Roberts as a UDFA this summer. A big 6’8” forward that is a monster on the boards. UH has four players that reached 1,000 rebounds and 1,000 points in their UH careers. Good company with Hakeem Olajuwon, Big E Elvin Hayes and Cadillac Anderson. But where he really excelled was on defense. Real blue collar guy and let’s face it, big forward and defense is not a strength for the 6ers.

Oh, and this place right here https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100047772745562&sk=photos is awesome...it's on the loop in Paris, really good steak and catfish. Hopefully that was one of thetwo places you were talking about. If not you need to holler when you are back down here and I'll meet you for dinner there, I'll buy.

Jets really cleaned up today…3 firsts, a second, and a second round WR in just his second year. Getting Mazi with this haul actually decreases their overall return value lol

But they are the Jets, so they'll just eff it up anyway

I look forward to Mazi finding a solid career in NY, putting a nice bow the gift Jerry gave us today.

The Howell move was precipitated by the injury to McKee. If he had been healthy for Week 1, then the Eagles likely would have just let McCord get through to the PS and not have worried about QB3. But having traded for Howell, they will hold on to him to flip later, if they can.

I’m not holding the McCord miss against him. It’s a late round QB, they are going to be more McCord than McKee. It was more just the context.

A few mentioned this in here, but seeing Howie mention this makes me think even more about it (no offense to board members).

Makes me wonder a bit more about the future of Reed Blankenship. Might be easier to restructure/extend Carter than it is to give Blankenship a new deal. Could Carter be an eventual replacement moving forward?

Howie has been reading my posts again.

Been saying it. Strip him of his C after this season.
