EMB Blog: 2025 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

Featured Replies

AJ Brown last 5 games:

42 targets

31 receptions

425 yards

5 TDs

13.7 yards per reception

some of that yesterday was garbage stat padding. However he also made a ridiculous catch and he could’ve had more if not for a BS PI penalty and better throws. Tbh he should’ve gotten more targets in the Dallas game as they didn’t go to him for 2 quarters.

I really don’t think he’s cooked or lost a massive step. I think his hamstring is finally getting healthier than it has been all year. i don’t expect him back next year but i also expect wherever he goes that he’s going to be very productive and likely look more consistent as he doesn’t have the ineptitude of not getting him the ball and finding ways to get him the ball.

Yeah, let’s take a poll on that one

Never forget….when preparing for this game yesterday, with cold, windy conditions, the coaching staff started with no touches for Tank Bigsby roll

I’m done. Nick should have taken over play calling as a show of leadership to his sinking ship.

There is a way to even do it where Kevin maintains his dignity in the process. But Nick is too big of a coward to make the necessary changes players and coaching wise.

His leadership is weak.

Yup...I am not sure if Nick has a trusted mentor, but he should. I have a masters degree in Leadership and I study it very closely. I spent the last 20 years of my career being challenged at that level. What I knew and did in my early years were much different than in my last few years. There was a lot of wisdom that was gained from experience. Nick is still very young and he is making very basic leadership mistakes, especially with communication and his laissez faire approach. He really blew it in the press conference when he put his foot down and took a defiant approach to his handling of Patullo. He needed to be more open and reflective....that comes with experience. He needed to step up and show up weeks ago...he needed to set the tone and walk the talk....nothing but crickets.

There doesn't need to be. Everyone can see who devolved a nice discussion to name calling because he didnt like the fair points that were respectfully raised.

In 2023, I was convinced that Sirianni had lost the locker room and I wanted him removed because of it. Last year, there were still concerns.

What I watched yesterday was complete dysfunction...basic execution, actions of undisciplined players, mistakes at the most mechanical foundational levels...all happening with all three units at the same time. That is pretty hard to accomplish...

This is much more than one player or one unit....it is a complete breakdown...I don't think the Eagles can continue with Sirianni. The issue is finding the right replacement. The FO needs to have a solid plan already in place before the heads are lopped off...

I was also in favor of dumping Nick after 2023 because he clearly lost the locker room and the #1 responsibility for the HC is to set the culture. I'm not ready to grade this year just yet but if we end up totally collapsing and missing the playoffs then you have to start thinking about how to move forward at HC. If that were the case you'd have two SB appearances and two years of simply losing the plot. I'm going to guess you give Nick another year but Lurie acts swiftly one he makes his mind up as we've seen in the past.

What name calling? Saying your position on Hurts is unreasonable? It is. Again, take the poll.

I just explained his magical season, but put another way, that's an outlier season. Doesn't really prove anything.

To say what you're saying also puts a knock on Kellen Moore, who didn't get that kind of season out of Hurts, but still coached us to a super bowl.

The opportunity to catch the league by surprise has ended with that magical season. No coach is doing that with Hurts ever again.

I figure to recapture the 2024 magic with Jalen, Howie will need to assemble a roster that is at least on par with that season. Which will be even more difficult as many of those contracts mature and those players age. A lot pressure to draft well, hit on FA lottery tickets, patch via trade and good injury luck… but even then carrying a middling/declining QB might be too much.

Nick has had enough time in the role to have developed those skills. What’s worse is that he already went through something similar two seasons ago. Nick is what he is. He needs someone else to make the heavy decisions.

He’s like Hurts. He fits a role. If you deviate outside that role too far, the system starts to fail. The front office failed in allowing Nick to make the call on his OC/play caller.

Imagine an actual HC saying this. Then defiantly declaring the OC is not the problem. Hoo boy

Yeah it’s a really bad look to say I don’t know the problem. Well problems don’t magically go away so if you can’t fix it then you need to bring in someone who does. Thats either a new OC or a new HC. Or a consultant for now which might be the route they go. Making no changes before the next game is pure malpractice

Shannon and Ocho around the 2:25 minute mark telling in detail just how predictable the eagles offense has been all year. It’s like i said yesterday you can predict what the eagles offense is going to do. Their running plays are telegraphed and their pass concepts are repetitive based on where they lineup. So that makes WRs look worse cause their tendencies are basically being picked up by them so it’s pretty obvious an average DC and below average defense is very likely to also be able to do this and then some

Yeah, "No coach will ever get good play out of Hurts again” is totally the reasonable take 😂

Everybody is saying that. It’s crazy. That’s gotta be Sirriani. He needs to be removed from the offense

Tends to happen when sirianni hires the guy he’s been grooming and both are in charge. Sirianni isn’t a great play designer or schemer. That’s not where he excels at. No one is ever going to confuse him with mcvay or be Johnson. He and the offense is repetitive in what he does and lacks creativity. Been saying this for multiple years now (since Steichen left) their passing attack relies on our guys are more talented than your guys so eventually they’ll win and overwhelming you. Like AJ brown’s ridiculous catch yesterday. that said hurts has also been bad since the bye which doesn’t help matters. Why i said last year hurts, sirianni and moore were all issues in the passing game looking as erratic as it was.

Some crazy things with the defense. I get short week but young playing 34 defensive snaps which is more than Nolan smith. And ojomo playing the same amount of defensive snaps as Jalen Carter. Going to watch the all 22. I don’t think any of our DTs played great but felt like against the run ojomo and young were by far our two worse run defenders.

And short week and tons of plays and no Jihaad Campbell

We’ll see how the rest of the season transpires, but it certainly feels 2023ish, which is fairly stunning since we actually have a real DC that should help stabilize things. I think the defense was pretty bad the past two weeks, but it was at least workable — if the offense was able to play some complementary football.

For the offense to turn around it would have to do so despite there literally being zero evidence it can be good this year (not a single full game let alone a stretch of games) and a coach who admits he doesn’t know what the problem is.

I haven’t seen a single analyst give even a lukewarm compliment to the scheme. Jurgens is so beat up we can’t even run pin-pull with him. Dickerson is bad to

mediocre. Teams each week are talking about our simple, predictable game plans. It doesn’t make even a little sense to put that on Hurts because you don’t have to have a complicated scheme to scheme players open, to use misdirection, bunch sets, pick plays (if we could actually run them without a penalty), to understand how to attack 5 man fronts, literally anything that puts secondaries in a bind.

I’m not gonna sit here and have unreasonable conversations about the quarterback. I’ve already acknowledged he has limitations and quirks.

However, it has absolutely been shown that good coaching can get the best out of him. And his best is good enough to win a Super Bowl.

Hurts was lucky enough to be with a dominant O Line and one of the 10 best RB seasons ever.

It continues to be proven Hurts can’t succeed unless everything around him is almost perfect.

And he struggles with dog crap coaching.

It’s certainly not a foregone conclusion, but I’ve mentally moved on from Sirianni. The question is if we keep Fangio as DC. I assume the front office would want to keep him. I assume Vic is happy to continue coaching. If it’s a first-time HC it would make sense to have a veteran DC who used to be a HC.

I’m not even sure who the hot candidates are. I don’t want a defensive HC for obvious reasons. I don’t even think I’d want John Harbaugh if he came loose. I want an offensive candidate, preferably one who will call plays. Who the hell is that candidate?

I would love to ask sirianni to tell me one thing patullo/offense has improved on from week 1? Red zone offense worse since bye. They are 5-9 (55.6%). Run game is just as bad even against teams down their entire linebacker corps. Still getting plays in slow. Still highly penalized bottom 1/3 if the league in penalty yards and penalties. Now more turnovers as they have 3 on offense the last two games. Dallas goedert has disappeared from being used in this offense against a bears team that has been susceptible to TEs (6.5 receptions per TE a game). Hurts has regressed since the bye week. The offense is so predictable and runs are telegraphed that fans like analyst can tell you what’s coming.

So I’d love to ask him what he thinks has remotely improved since week 1. Especially considering we currently have 10 of 11 starters playing on offense.  Really nothing has. It’s either status quo that is a coaching issue. Cause if you can’t figure out ways to find some areas of improvement after 13 weeks then maybe you are in over your head. Even the titans have found ways to get better over past couple weeks with an interim HC. Actually averaging more ppg at 17.75 compared to our 15.25 over their last 4 games

Eagles had 11 drives. They used tempo on five of them (we can completely dismiss the missed FG drive IMO. The second to last might need to be taken with a grain of salt as well)

Drives without no-huddle (yards):

Punt (15)

Punt (7)

Punt (2)

Punt (1)

INT (0)

Punt (2)

Drives with no-huddle (yards):

Field goal (39)

Touchdown (92)

Fumble (23)

Touchdown (80)

Missed field goal (36)
