He played like an MVP with Steichen. I'd like to see him with an OC who has full autonomy and who knows how to construct a functional passing offense.

You can make that argument, but it wasnt as if he was some elite passer. He still threw for less than 4000 yards that season, and only 22 TDs. Unimpressive passing numbers. Though, efficient and a fun offense to watch. The reason he had such an awesome season is because he also rushed for over 700 yards, and 13 more TDs.

The reasons for the success of the Steichen offense as I see it are

  1. Hurts was in his first full year as our starter. We have seen young QBs have immediate success, and then the league catches up to them.

  2. Combined with #1, it was a pretty new thing to run as much RPO as we were. It was new for teams to try to defend. And they adjusted by the following year.

  3. Hurts was willing to run, and he ran well. He is nowhere near as effective as a runner these days. And seems much less willing. The ground game was a big part of his success, especially his own rushing.

  4. He had Miles Sanders averaging over 5 yards per carry. So not only was his passing game supported by his legs, but also by Miles Sanders running super effectively.

There is no OC who can bring those things back. A new OC doesnt make RPOs new and hard to defend again. A new OC doesnt make our OL that much younger and more dominant like they used to be. In turn, the new OC is not going to be able to unleash Barkley. It would require an overhaul of the OL. And a new OC is not going to help Hurts find the fountain of youth and start running as effectively as he used to. Probably wont convince him to start running more either.

The many reasons for the offenses success that year, are not changeable by any coach on this planet.

Tough to do normal NFL passing game things when Jalen is throwing like he was throwing yesterday.

Yep and that can’t make Lurie happy. I think if Nick resists change to this it could lead to a surprise exit but ultimately I think they’ll agree on a new OC this offseason my guess being Kafka

Don’t worry guys we got the fly!

There will be changes. This Owner and FO want Offense. And this Offense is offensive.

Get the eff outta here with the Flyers ish. No one cares about those losers and that crappy Organization.

My high school in New Mexico won their 33rd State Championship today. Amazing football community that has sustained success for decades. The whole town revolves around Bulldog football. Hell, the town practically shuts down on game night and they even move Halloween if it falls on Friday lol

The Bulldogs came back down 24-11 to Roswell in the 4th with a blocked field goal and recovered onside kick to capture #33. Maybe Sirianni can poach the head coach since he likes himself a high school offense.

Hey the flyers are the only team right now with a good offense in the city lol

To reestablish the status quo, everything must change. Tall order.

Doug once said he wasn't making coaching changes...then a couple days later...

Hmm.

If no move is made by tomorrow then no move is coming. Unless they do the quiet demotion like they did in 2023 where Patricia took over at the start of the week but it wasn't announced until the day before the game.

He did. And Scarangello before him. And it didnt last long. Not because of Sirianni though. Thats an asinine assertion that guy made.

Probably because Scangarello coached under Doug…

Oh so the lack of motion in the offense pre-date Sirianni? Interesting.

I know who was here that year though...

I didn't see the entire game. Did they call a penalty on that?

Yes.

Sirianni will fight for and receive the right to retain KP as OC and playcaller through the end of the season. He is putting a significant amount of organizational clout on the line that he earned from winning the Super Bowl. If the season ends how it seems to be trending how it will end then Sirianni will suffer significantly in his power of influence within the Eagles organization going forward. He won't be fired but KP will and Sirianni will find himself again completely neutered by an organization handpicked OC/potential successor like Moore was.

Being completely honest when I say I think Big Dom could be a great culture CEO type HC that is level headed yet all the players enthusiastically love and then just pair him with a great OC. Become the OC to HC factory of great OCs coming to get launched to a HC job while coaching a lot of talent. Nick could have been that but made sure his friend was hired and no one else was considered after Moore. I don't think Big Dom would do that and I think he genuinely brings more to the table than Nick already.

Hard to know what to believe when "sources” say it’s Jalen that doesn’t like those things. Every day it’s someone else’s fault/decision

lol. I’m sure rookie year Hurts had a lot of say about how Doug ran his offense and how the offense should look moving forward.

Keep in mind Scangarello after his one year here said he had no idea why he was even in Philly. Maybe Hurts also poisoned Wentz against motion.

The point was less about Hurts though, and more about that guys ridiculous assertion that Sirianni doesnt want motion. The lack of motion pre-dates Sirianni.

Moore brought it here, and it came and went pretty quickly. Its not as though it came as a surprise to Nick that Kellen would run a lot of motion. We all knew. Its more the fact that Hurts doesnt want it/cant run it. They were also slow getting plays in last year too (the issue falsely attributed to Patullo now), so its tough to even run motion when you dont have enough time on the clock.

I heard the Eagles don’t blitz as much because Jalen doesn’t like it.

Its not hard at all if youve paid attention yourself and remember things. True though that you cant rely on these internet personalities with their agendas. People conevniently forget, and rewrite history. Anything to protect Hurts and blame anyone/everyone else.

I didn't say he was an elite passer. He's not. But to act like the guy can't run a more creative offenses or he'll fall to pieces and look like he doesn't even belong in the NFL is an absurd notion. If Ben Johnson coached the offense, there is a 0% chance the offense would look the same it does now.

Hurts takes a lot of crap in the media though bro. Like a lot. You can say it’s justified but he takes a beating.

There was nothing all that creative about the RPO offense and Hurts using his legs to keep a defense on its heels. It wasnt complicated. Its a pretty dumbed down way to play the QB position.

Of course maybe Johnson has the stones to stand on his name and not pare down his offense to high school level for an unqualified QB. But thatd still look like a disaster with Hurts trying to function in that system.
