We had Reid and never won. McVay, Shanahan, Payton all have won the same number as Nick (or less). It's really tough to thread that needle. A lot of good OCs have flamed out as HC

November 30Nov 30 Hurts is a good QB. Is he Josh Allen, Mahomes, Burrow good? No, I don't think so. I don't even think he's close tbh. But he's good and you can win with him. Obviously. And here's a stunner... I think he'd look better if he played in a better offensive system. As would any QB. To think that Hurts can only play in a system where he has to throw 50/50 balls to tightly covered WRs is ridiculous. And Sirianni? Hypothetically, if he were fired after the season and went on to coach another team without Howie to put the best rosters of the past decade around him. I think his most likely future would be he flames out after two seasons and likely never coaches in the NFL again. And we look back at Sirianni as a more extreme version of Doug. A guy who had a lot of success because of a lot of other circumstances and a great situation around him and we'll always look back at him as one of the weirdest case studies ever because of his win % but nothing about him was overly impressive as a coach when it comes to tangible things like scheme, x's and o's, utilization of talent, etc.And frankly, each of the Eagles last 3 hires started off looking great, people were hesitant to fire them because it was like "Well, if they had success, they must be doing something right" and Chip and Doug both turned out to just be Fing terrible. And if they collapse this season and Lurie were to fire Sirianni, I'd bet me money he goes on to have the same future trajectory. And Howie will keep on having success as long as he continues to crush drafts and offseasons.

But I do not like the blocking schemes, there's no wrinkles or anything different it seems. God forbid our offense coordinator comes up with some innovation or even copy what other teams are doing that makes sense, it's a copy cat league after all.And do we even double team DTs anymore? Watched Chicago do it over and over like we did last season and now we don't seem to do it much at all.

November 30Nov 30 Mahomes, Burrow, Allen....no one consistently wins with a bad OL and no defense. The Chiefs are probably going to miss the playoffs in a bad AFC because this is the first year they don't have a dominant defense or OLJosh Allen hasn't won jack ishBurrow has spent half of his career with debilitating injuries because of his poor OL and defense, and lost his SB tooThese unicorn QBs don't exist, you need a full team and a QB who doesn't choke and that's Hurts

Smitty would be a great #1 on any other team and we don't throw well enough to utilize 2 great receivers anyway. So take the massive cap hit for a year which would be offset by a rookie salary receiver and you can set up future contracts on defense to start increasing salary after his dead money clears. The passing game is already bottom 5 with him right now, and his playing style is not going to last past 30.

November 30Nov 30 I find nothing good about Sirriani except the results. I totally respect that his team's win. That's what matters. But yeah if they stop winning there's nothing to keep him around
November 30Nov 30 The slate of games sucks today and tomorrow. Barely a game or two that are remotely interesting

This would keep the QB healthy, but the underpinning assumption was that run game would still be adequate due to our OL and that Hurts would continue to advance as a passer.
November 30Nov 30 1 hour ago, pgcd3 said:Also let's be clear. This is the Nick Sirriani offense catered to Jalen Hurts. This is not the Jalen Hurts offense. There's a difference. If the Eagles installed an OC or HC with full power that guy would build a new offense that looked very differently. We've gone through multiple OCs and the passing game has struggled/been inconsistent for a few seasons now. If Sirianni is the merely the head coach and that's all he brings to the table, as people on this board have argued for some time, then this would be the way things are run because of Hurts, would it not? He stated as such and people still don't accept that.
November 30Nov 30 3 hours ago, pgcd3 said:So your thesis is you want a QB who thrives when he has a bad OL and mediocre WRs?Every great QB has a strong supporting cast. When other QBs have injuries to O line & skill players everyone acknowledges how hard it is on them. When there are good QBs without a strong cast everyone says get him a receiver or build up the O line.Hurts did well in 2021 with less, first year starter, first year with these new coaches. The OC makes a huge difference. Hurts isn't a pure pocket passer and won't rack up high passing yard & TD numbers. Some of these guys just hate that no matter what. Hurts has his ups and downs and has been bad lately...so has everyone lately. There are a lot of issues being pointed out that have nothing to do with Hurts, they are coaching issues. Yes, Hurts has his blame also. So does O line, Barkley, TEs, coaches, some defenders, even Fangio and Howie. But some of these guys have a hate hard on for Hurts and won't be happy until he's gone. Two posters this week wished injury on him.
