Good news. I got an email back from VABeach_Eagle, he is ok. He has been tending to his mother's health as she's been in the hospital, and exhausted lately. He says he will be more available to log on

Eagles were next in the waiver wire after the bills

Not allowed to do that right? Unless the claiming team terminates the contract?

I'm wondering if he would have to give up a pro-rated part of his signing bonus to do that even though the bonus was paid by the Steelers.

Slay and Rosenhaus control the script here. If he wants to be an Eagle, he will be. That simple. Rosenhaus will raise a stink, if Bills don't cooperate. Besides, they look like they just want him for depth anyway. He starts here... in pretty quick fashion.

I doubt Rosenhaus cares that much. It’s a guy at the tail end of his career, probably about to retire in a few months on a cheap deal. He’s got plenty of other high profile clients to make money off of and care about.

You saying Slay and his agent control the script is exactly why they may not release him.

Do we know if they put in a claim?

No. Steelers paid it. Steelers cut him. It stays on Steelers books.

I think Slay is not gonna bother with freezing cold Buffalo and learn a whole new system and be with a new group at this point. And maybe only be a backup. It's seamless coming to Eagles. And staying in the same state. He also has a family to consider. And Mrs. Slay. This is his last hurrah. Unless there's bad blood with Eagles. That's the part we don't know. If he wants to be here he will find a way. Former captain here and a chance to repeat as Superbowl Champions has to excite him.

You’re giving him way too much power in the situation. He left, he chose to go somewhere else, this is what he has to deal with.

If he wanted to come back so badly he should have asked out before the deadline.

Greatest game I have ever seen from a sheer defensive domination, they knock out EVERY WR for the Oilers that had that run and shoot offense. If that defense did today, what they did in that game, the whole defense would be suspended for the season lmao

I will be surprised if he wants to play for the Bills over the Eagles. Could see the Lions. If he doesn't want to report, it would be stupid for Bills to hold on to him for spite. It's a bad look with the players. It's a player's league. He can manipulate this. If he wants. And with Rosenhaus and a pretty good relationship with Howie, can see it happening.

It’s a bad look for them to just give in because the player has sour grapes. They already had to cut someone from the current team for him. What if the next guy they claim tries to do the same thing?

I’m not saying he would want to play for the Bills over the Eagles. I think it’s pretty obvious he wants to be here.

I also would pretty shocked if Bills didn’t know what they were getting into by putting in the claim. They probably already knew from Rosenhaus he didn’t want to get claimed and didn’t care or they think he will play for them.

Yea his only power is in choosing not to play for them, which I think is what's gonna happen. Then nothing will happen and he will have played his last snap

The Bills are ranked #1 in the league for passing yards allowed per game. I think he's just a depth piece at this point. He left for the same reason in Pittsburgh. I think he wants more assurances. Just like CJGJ did. This may not resolve right away. But the player will dictate. Why would he start over with the Bills? Is there any connection with Bills or city there? Think that matters here in the late stages. And play for peanuts on top of that. Can't see it. In week 14.

He doesn't have to play for them but theyre not going to release him so he can play somewhere else

The Steelers just released him to do the same thing. He was unhappy with playing time etc. And happened to get paid a ton. Why would you want someone unhappy in the organization? Who's probably just a depth piece for them? May take a week or 2 to transpire and play out. All I'm saying, if he wants to be here he will find his way here.

If he doesn’t report, he’s not there and not in the organization. He’s just a grumpy old man doing podcasts from his sofa. And by not reporting, Bills freeze his pay.

He would essentially be what Jaire Alexander is to the Eagles. An afterthought.

Bad comparison with Jaire. He was damaged goods and couldn't and didn't want to play football at this point. Slay wants to continue according to early reports.

He can badmouth them on his podcast. 😁 Players do have the power. Happens all the time in sports.

You are completely missing the point. It’s not about Jaire vs Slay as players. The point was it would be the same situation. The player would be away from the organization, sitting at home, not getting paid.

Will see if he wants to play. He's not gonna be playing much for the Bills and maybe he does choose to retire. All conjecture. If he wants to play and start, this is his best spot. Bills would do the player the solid and release him. They invested nothing in him and would be pure spite not to do so....IF THAT'S WHAT HE WANTS.

Then what was the point in claiming him?

Just now, LeanMeanGM said:

Depth. IMO

I really don’t think the Bills are going to fear Slay going to the Eagles or ruin the guy’s last 2 months of his playing career if he decides he really doesn’t want to go there, but we’ll see.

Curious if the Eagles put in a claim. I doubt it.

That's the part we don't know. Eagles may not want him. Which is stupid. Being that they have nothing at CB2 to speak of. As they did the same BS with CJGJ, and passed on him and may do the same here. They are a mismanaged organization this year, up to now. And giving lessons in how to screw up a dominant Superbowl roster and fall apart.

Slay has no power. He was claimed. Move on
