So today I go online to set up my mortgage payment and see that my escrow account was over drafted by nearly $6,000. I compare my homeowners insurance statement from last year to this year to see that Progressive raised my annual premium from $2,370 in 2022 to $7,791 in 2023. Needless to say that made me a little upset.  I didn't even make any claims and my place was safe from the hurricane so they are definitely getting shopped around ASAP.

My car insurance was like $650ish for 6 months when I bought it, the next 6 months was $722, then this past November at my 1yr mark it jumped to $919 for a half year. Zero claims, incidents, etc.

I called up to complain and they basically said with supply chain and material costs, all repairs are much more expensive that before, so everyone is having their rates increased to offset the market costs -- even though I haven't contributed to them paying more to fix other peoples vehicles in accidents. So lame.

i'm pretty sure all my kid's accidents drove up everybody's insurance rates. <_<

I have Erie and about 2 years ago when I bought a new car they offered a special plan for people with good driving records. It is a rate lock plan that was even cheaper than what we already had with them.

And it's locked for, I think 5 years?

Saved a bunch of money and it wasnt something I even knew to ask for.  They offered it.

My policy renews in June - I'll be interested to see how it changes

My insurance drops renewal after renewal over the years, which is why this recent bump that was like $200+ happened I was irritated. But I shopped half a dozen places and nothing else was a decreased price for the same policy coverages.

I drive an EV, so they really should be paying ME since I'm saving the planet.

Right...... what about those massive dumps you claim to take?...... that's gotta be some type of pollution.

So today the bank where I pay my mortgage just sent out my escrow statement and they want me to pay an extra $1000/month to cover the shortfall due to my home insurance basically tripling overnight. Yes you heard that right... my monthly mortgage payment just increased by $1000USD/friggen month.

I'm going to call them today to find out how much I need to give them in order for this not to happen and also let them know that I'm looking for a different insurance company. It was also suggested to me yesterday that I get an inspector to do a new wind mitigation report so that can trigger another discount. Gonna set that up today also.

This is some real bs though.

We’ve been getting billed for escrow shortfall last 2yrs, but it’s a one time payment and under $400.  This year we just added an extra $500 to escrow.  Man $1000/mo is insane.

a few months in thoughts on the Mach-E? A local dealership as a Route 1 edition (extended range and quicker acceleration benefits) marked down $5500 right now below MSRP, and that's one of the few vehicles that still has a $7500 tax rebate (at least until month's end)... it has me contemplating

I'm not a politics person but things like this is where the Gov't should step in and intervene. When homes require insurance and the bank can take it away from you if you don't provide coverage, "private" entities shouldn't be allowed to inflate prices beyond what any reasonable person can be expected to pay.

Very happy with it.  The interior is very nice and super comfortable.  The drive is really smooth.  I was worried it would feel like a glorified golf cart and that is not the case at all.  It is very quick and ours isnt a GT. Random thoughts:

1) Paying $$$ for AWD was the right way to go.  This is meant to be our get around town car and I don't want to use the explorer every time it rains\snows

2) I wish we paid the $$$ for extended range battery.  We can do trips to Philly and back, but trips to Allentown NEPA or the shore is out of range

3) This is about EV's in general, but they aren't kidding about the cold killing the range.  We garage it so it helps but it is still noticeable.  Where you live this may be an issue

4) We have the premium, which I think has a few more features than the route 1.  But there are a lot of bells and whistles I never knew I needed and now can't live without. Some of my favorites is the 360 camera (backing up is like a video game) and the automatic high beams.

5) It is deceptively roomy.  They trick your eye with the black "fin" (for lack of a better description) on the top to make the top look rounded, but that is all head room.  Legroom in the back is ample, not at all like a *real* mustang.  I do wish it had a bit more trunk space.

6) The frunk can be used as a cooler and I intend to do so tailgating one day.

7) We still have to install a real charger and are just using the portable one they give you for now.  We started with the trickle charge and it was usable, but we since installed a 240v 50 amp 4-prong outlet so now we don't have to plan as much for our charging needs.  Mind you, we don't drive much (maybe 7000 a year) given me working at home and having a toddler, but if you drive a lot I would recommend getting some sort of charger or just a 240 v outlet ASAP. (I can't remember if you rent or own)  F'n wire is expensive, so be prepared for that one time cost.  It cost us $500 just for the wire but mind you the breaker box is on the opposite end of the house from the garage.

What happens in a month?

I think the Federal Govt is revisiting their policies... maybe tied to the Inflation Reduction Act or one of those bills. My office (usually in person Tue-Wed-Thur) has 5 separate dual-plug parking stations and I think I'm the only PHEV using those -- everyone else that parks there is in either a Tesla or a Leaf. There is no charge to use it and I don't (believe) there is a cap -- my PHEV goes from 0-100% in 90 minutes or so which has prevented me from "testing" if there are any limits. I live within 5mi of the office too so even with my crap winter range (glorified 10mi if lucky on non-interstate speeds) I can round-trip it without plugging in at home, When I do I use the standard 120v and that gets me from 0-100% in 6-8 hours I want to say. If I plug in when I get home from work around 5ish I'll get the notification on my phone that I am at 100% before going to bed.

I bought a townhouse about 14 months ago and I have a garage that is underneath the unit, but its all cement floors/walls/ceiling and a brick wall on the side that has my staircase to upstairs (which is where the breaker panel is) so I'm sure that is where someone would have to drill through and run conduit if i tried to add 230v. Between work though and never driving further in one shot than the airport or St Paul (50 miles round trip max) I think I would be okay off my current 120v. I've already stumbled on a Target and a shopping area (Thai restaurant) with a parking garage that are free plug-in spots (Target shopping center up to 2hr) and when I go to Wolves games I use the EV spots and my 90ish min to get to 100% costs like $1.80 so maybe I would double my cost using the occasional pay-to-park charging meter.

Interesting, I stopped paying attention honestly.  I know the act put into place:

1) Removing limit on # of vehicles per manufacturer that were eligible for the credit.

2) Put into place several new restrictions (Battery must be made in NA, Car must be primarily assembled in NA, etc)

So I wonder what is causing them to revisit it.

One thing to keep in mind.....  Charging from ##% to 8#% (eighty-something) is much faster than charging in the 90s to 100%.  And honestly, with current EV batteries, its recommended not to fully charge it the whole way, which you won't need to since you'll have much greater range.  Don't let that stop you with the plug in hybrid.  Hybrid batteries get beat up just as an effect of the design (Smaller battery that gets charged and discharged often)

I looked up a list at the start of the year and it was about 15-20% the number of eligible makes/models we had the past couple years.

I am taking a 3 -day weekend (Monday) and we've been getting snow for several days this week, so I may visit the dealership Saturday for a test drive and to see what they will offer me for trade-in value and with them closed Sunday and Monday me having off, I can 100% walk away without issue and even leave it as "contact me with your best offer Monday morning and if it sounds good I'll gather my title and other documents and head straight over."

Mach-Es qualify since they are built in Mexico (and the Battery is made in NA as well)

Ford is building a 5 billion dollar factory in Tennessee to build EVs and Batteries.

Speaking of batteries, the 2023 version will be LFP batteries, which has me jelly. But we will likely keep ours until solid state batteries become a reality.
