Just got back from my mother's oncologist. They're really happy with the results of her latest CT Scan. All of the cancer has reduced a little. So a really good report.

7) We still have to install a real charger and are just using the portable one they give you for now.  We started with the trickle charge and it was usable, but we since installed a 240v 50 amp 4-prong outlet so now we don't have to plan as much for our charging needs.  Mind you, we don't drive much (maybe 7000 a year) given me working at home and having a toddler, but if you drive a lot I would recommend getting some sort of charger or just a 240 v outlet ASAP. (I can't remember if you rent or own)  F'n wire is expensive, so be prepared for that one time cost.  It cost us $500 just for the wire but mind you the breaker box is on the opposite end of the house from the garage.

Back to this one..... having that ability to "quickly" charge it (compared to a trickle charge) really does help with range anxiety.  I charged her up to about 85% the other day but after running a bunch of errands over a 3 day period we were back down to 42% late afternoon yesterday.  Schmoopie had a girls night thing planned and had to leave at 6, so it was nice to be able to plug it in and add about 30-40 miles of range in an hour and a half.  We could have waited and she was at no risk of being stuck, but it helps give peace of mind.

Do they have an estimated cost of a full charge?

Spoiler

I know I know, you have solar. I'm talking normal people

For us its about $7 for 200 miles of range.

If you are Peco, I think your total electric rate and transmission rate is about 18 cents per kw, so would be $12-13 for a full charge.

Mach-Es qualify since they are built in Mexico (and the Battery is made in NA as well)

Ford is building a 5 billion dollar factory in Tennessee to build EVs and Batteries.

Speaking of batteries, the 2023 version will be LFP batteries, which has me jelly. But we will likely keep ours until solid state batteries become a reality.

It looks like the Route 1 (that was marked down $5500) I bookmarked about 48 hours ago is gone now, but they still have a Premium with what is probably that 2023 battery in an extended range available. There are other dealers in the region -- this just happens to be the one who had that discounted car earlier this week

Same exterior color as ours (we have the ice white package which is not available on 2023), and we have a white interior.  Where you live you pretty much have to get the AWD, so you are covered there. And it has the protection package, which we got as well.

I'm sure when it's -20F he'll appreciate not being able to run the heat so he can make it more than 30 miles at a clip!

They recommend that in cold weather, instead of using the heat, just use the heated seats to save range.  Doesn't work for us since we have a toddler in the back.

But you do bring up a good point.... for the god awful Minnesota weather, one way to help extend the range is utilizing the remote start on the car while it is plugged in. Not only does that heat the cabin but preconditions the battery.

My Fusion hybrid had remote start and heated/cooled seats that was amazing. Then I got the X3 M40i and apparently foreigners are not too fond of the remote start. There was some kind of "pre-conditioning" that would have the vents blow air but it didn't do much. The same thing is on my 530e but half the time I don't even think about using it (while at work, plugged in) and at home I'm in a garage so there are no issues.

The Germans found years ago that their stupid people  would remote start their cars in the garage and die from the exhaust fumes. So they did away with it.

BMW can suck it now days....... subscription based heated seats, among other features they are charging for. Had a few..... done with those overpriced trash cans.

Back to the remote start..... it should be mandatory in the US so we can discreetly weed out the idiots.

Dodge Durango is like that too. I agree it's stupid.

One of my friends was a film logger there.  I never heard of this, all the film he did was game film.  But then again this was back in 2001-2003 so who knows, maybe they added more fan shots for their productions.

I mean, how "lewd" could they be?
