This little guy was just out there in our driveway. At night. That’s not exactly sitting well with me.

And another one in the yard.  At night.  This one’s now about an inch shorter than it used to be too.  We’ve been here almost 23 years, and that entire time I’d seen exactly 3 of them in our yard. Until these last two. We also had dogs the entire time, until we lost our dog 2 and a half weeks ago. Now I’ve seen 2 in the last 8 days. Coincidence?

Get yourself a possum.  They love to eat snakes.

Quote

Opossums also enjoy eating snakes, and will kill and eat all snakes including poisonous ones. They are immune to the snake venom, and relish copperhead, water moccasins, rattlesnakes, and others.

We have plenty of Opossums around. They’re slacking off. We also have plenty of other snakes, and I don’t mind them, just these.

If he says he's heading to my house, tell him I've got a shovel with his name on it.

Whoa.  Timber Rattlesnake?

Yep - he coiled up and started rattling when I pulled next to him.

I counted ten rattles on his tail, so it's likely it was at least 3-4 years old.

I’m not afraid of wildlife but if I see this outside I’m not messing with it.

That thing is a beast, but I'd almost, ALMOST, rather have them around as they'll at least give you a warning.  Of course, if you don't heed the warning, you're going to pay a steeper price then if you get bitten by a copperhead.

Cautious and afraid can be mutually exclusive!
