@probably I need you to come in here and tell me how stupid/naive it would be to buy a second car. I have my Fusion Hybrid that I really enjoy and makes for a great daily driver that's gotten my lead foot around 37mpg over the 4ish years now that I've owned it.

I've always liked the so called american muscle cars over the years, but have never bought one due to their overall impracticality. Many also have terrible blindspots and other items (Camaro especially IMO), but I really like the Charger R/T and spent about a week in one as a rental last summer on a work trip, and see a great deal on one ($7000 off sticker price) that has all the features/options I want, that would be nice to drive during the warm months and be garaged during the winter/snow/salt season.

So come chastise me on why this would be a terrible idea so that I don't do it. Thanks!

You're more likely to get lectures from all the automobile experts in here about why Dodge sucks and you should go with Ford, or Chevy, etc.

Do what you want!  It's your money.  When you buy the car, take a picture of you standing next to it with your a** out and send it to probably

I'm just not a big fan of coupes which is hard to avoid with most makes/models.

Your second vehicle should be a Peloton, fatty.

....if you want a super dooooshy car like a Charger go for it. There's good deals for cars right now...as long as you have a super secure job...but sell or trade in your practical non-dooooshy car. You don't want to have to pay insurance for both.

If you want to be really financially responsible during questionable times, keep the car you have and don't buy a super dooooshy Charger.

sounds like somebody lost a girlfriend to a guy in a charger, didn't you.

So is that hat supposed to reference the quote, "lions don't concern themselves with the opinions of sheep"?  If so, then I would think Lions also don't buy stupid hats just to take a selfie for social media.

She's a lion because she doesn't do what the government tells her to do, unlike the rest of us sheep who are wearing masks, social distancing, staying home....

Last week she rescued a couple of chickens and posted on facebook to try and find them a home. She got all outraged when people offered to take them and eat them.

You dumb bish, why the F do you think people raise chickens.

I never dated those kind of girls.

I actually got a Charger as a rental once. My wife thought it was obnoxious.

While I agree anything can happen at any moment to any of us (employment wise), everything with my role and company is as "secure" as something like that can be, so I'm not concerned with that thankfully. I'm also at a level where I will get a bonus (which is paid out annually in June) this year for the first time. I don't know specifics but I've been given the impression that tends to be around 10% salary on down years and as high as 20% great years (we keep increasing in all the important metrics, so I would imagine 15% at worst), but that wasn't even something I consciously thought about as a factor until just now.

Yes but what if I am at a point where impracticality is now practical? binky had a Mustang for the longest time didn't she?

I'd argue retirement is where impracticality is "practical", but I'm very conservative with my money.

We have two cars now: An Explorer and a Mini cooper.  Both serve a purpose, the Explorer hauls stuff and the Mini is for driving down to the shore to clean the condo or have a quick weekend there.

Do I want a M Series?  Yup.  But I'm not going to get one because there is no need

Yeah, Agent, don't you know you should save every dime you make so you can take an early retirement and live comfortable for 2 years until you get diagnosed with Stage 4 live cancer and die in your mid-60's?  That's the testament of a life lived well, right there.   :rolly-eyes:

Sorry Paco, I'm just a little touchy about this whole topic due to my dad's current situation.

Agent, I say, if you can afford to have 2 cars without impacting your ability to save for retirement or leave yourself "cash poor" then go for it!

Yeah, I'm fortunate to be in a comfortable situation but unfortunately its due in some large part to my dad passing in his early 50s.

I have no idea what retirement will look like given that it's soooo far away still, but with doing the 5% 401k contribution (or whatever the amount was to receive my company match) the projections were telling me I was way above the target pace needed for whatever Merril Lynch calculates for estimated retirement earnings.

Since getting my debt paid off, I've upped my 401k contributions to 25% which is approximately the monthly amount needed to hit the pre-tax annual contribution which is a bit under $20k I think.

There's nothing wrong with having nice things if you can afford them. There will always be haters, just because they have kids and other things they can't afford they think everyone else is the same. You're sitting on 200 large, you're a baller not some coupon clipping weenie with no moaney. We laugh at the poor, not ask them for financial advice. Ask Captain F. how his multiple lambos are.

But really, my only suggestion is if you want a muscle car is don't buy a new one you'll only lose money on the deal. Buy a classic and take care of it and it will only go up in value. Get tired of driving it, flip it and get something else that will go up in value. The only real difference is you don't generally finance them you buy them cash. Make money while hot rodding. Winning.

I didn't even think of Captain F's baller status! Sadly I was still sitting on a decent bit of college loan debt and some credit card debt (portion of which tied to covering estate expenses over 2.5 years), so I'm only sitting on about half of that. But, debts are paid off (minus my own mortgage), I'm comfortably maxing my 401k, and my credit score (which took a brief dip the tail end of waiting for that house to sell) is up in the 770s, so I have room to make regretful decisions!

A thought that comes to mind from your post. I know binky asked a couple weeks ago if I want to settle down with someone. The answer is definitely yes, assuming I find someone where we complement one another well. But while I've always been open to having kids if I happily settle down with someone and she wants a family, I don't feel any longing or obligation to have kids and am perfectly happy if I never do (yes @probably, I know that makes you happy). So on that topic, I don't have the expense of raising children and don't expect that I'm going to (unless I land some 25yo smokeshow that I need to drop an anchor baby in), so that does open up finances that I realize most people have associated with more important things.

so we had tickets to hamilton...the family really wanted to go but it's obviously cancelled.

but they just credited my $$$ for the tickets. :-)

which i will immediately put towards the 82" tv i purchased today. :excited:

Did they send one of your balls back with the refund too, or still keep both of them?

Since we're @probably all going to die from the rona anyway. And I read somewhere back in the 90s a kid had a lifetime cost of over 300k back then. I'm sure it's much more nowadays. Anyway say hello to your extra large Alpha sized hotrod condo full of lambos you giant baller! 😂

@Agent23 You should just buy a '95 civic for about 2k and then put about 40k of aftermarket upgrades on it - then you can land chicks like Paul Walker!
