May 14, 20205 yr You’d have to buy one already restored Agent.. you’re too lazy to paint your living room - no one here expects you to restore a car

And a restored classic is def the way to go since it’s not going to be your everyday driver. If you have money burning a hole in your pocket you might also want to consider a vacation home or condo. You can rent it when not using it and it will appreciate. It’s nice having a getaway that you own. Our condo is on the beach and only cost $125k (plus the renos we made). The monthly is the same as some new cars and if you rent it out it will pay for itself. Wait, your beach condo was only $125k?

They originally wanted $165K and I kept watching it for months - paco kept saying no until they finally did a huge price drop, and then he agreed to go look at it. We put an offer in the same day we saw it in person. We put around $15K into it, and now we have a condo right on the beach that pays for itself! We did a tax appeal so we got the taxes down, and our association fees are only about $125/mo so it's really affordable. Of course we did all the work ourselves on weekends so it took 6 months to complete but it was well worth it!

That's a point as well, counter point is the pandemic could kill you before you could get to enjoy your retirement. The economy could also get so bad that your money aint worth ish.

I've gotten impressions they flip it for the next guests themselves, as after each guest I recall posts about the most random ish these people have managed to ruin or destroy in a 4-day weekend. Like things I haven't destroyed in over a decade of living places and moving in and out of places

Like things I haven't destroyed in over a decade of living places and moving in and out of places I don't remember having a lot of things ruined or destroyed except a broken lamp, a comforter that one ho got self tanner on, and someone stole one of my books. We also had someone take all of the extra toilet paper once - well before this pandemic. We definitely have had our share of irritations with renters but so far we've been lucky in no major damage. My biggest fear besides damage is smoking or squatters - and we haven't had that YET.

Maybe it was just enough random nitpicks with a few broken items (I feel like I recall a fan mentioned?) that it all just blurred together as having a string of people with bizarre habits lol

I don't believe that was damage by the renter, but paco does. I think it was just a shoddy Lowe's ceiling fan. We haven't had any issues with that one since he replaced it. People are strange and we definitely have our share of stories - and I haven't liked everyone who has rented. It's a job for sure, but it's one that pays and has benefits, so it all depends on if the investment and having a second home is worth it to you or not. Last summer we rented it to one couple for the entire summer so we didn't have to go down and clean between rentals. It's nice to have a second home to retreat to - we have gone down twice during the pandemic (bringing our own food and checking on our elderly neighbor) - so it's been nice to have a change for scenery and be able to walk on the beach right now. I'm a beach bum and obviously loved it so much to live there full time at one point so it makes me happy. And paco has a stressful job, so it's nice for him to spend the weekend down there sometimes - it gets him out of at home chores 4 minutes ago, mr_hunt said: and the driftwood! didn't someone f up their driftwood? For example, schmoopie and I shared some of the stuff we have gone through trying to grow our family and now trying to explore adoption. If I didnt save so agressively in my 20s, it would be a pipe dream now. And I certainly wasn't planning on that in my 20s. Also the shorehouse is another example. I was able to leverage our assets to purchase an income generating vacation property.

And yes, life has a way of proving even the wisest among us as stupid, because when you zag you should have zigged.
