The real brave ones were the people who posted a blank, black picture on Instagram yesterday.  They really put their necks on the line for the cause.  Not all heroes wear capes!

I really wanted to post my 300 blackout AR for #blackouttuesday but I didn't feel like dealing with the screeching liberals

I hadn't read anything about this #blackouttuesday, and I honestly thought some of my friends were getting hammered yesterday afternoon and that my instagram pictures weren't loading.

same with me on gFB.

We are still kicking around the possibility of getting a ductless multi zone mini split system in the house. Another quote should be coming any day.

We will have a choice between name brands Bryant or Mitsubishi.

Bryant will be cheaper with a 10 year warranty. Mitsubishi will have a 12 year warranty.

Anyone know about these things? Is Bryant quality enough to be worth taking the cheaper price? Or will it be a POS?

 I was getting ready to start posting the lyrics to Back in Black to one of my friends Facebook posts.  Really glad I didn't.

Get the Mitsubishi.  Better product.  How big is your house?  I wouldn’t recommend this type system for a whole home unless there is no way to run ductwork or baseboard or radiant heat.  If you have wood floors they could buckle and the indoor units hanging on a wall is just horrid looking if you are ever considering selling.  They are much better suited for a sun room, attic that’s been re finished. That sort of thing.

See if there’s a Daikin quote!

In all seriousness tho, it’s more a product of the contractor channels you go through. I had one contractor price me $10k to replace an existing furnace, plus to install all brand new a condensing unit, electrical connections, refrigerant piping, condensate pump and tubing, indoor refrigerant coil mounted at the furnace, and the transition ductwork modifications to add that A-coil in.

Immediately knew price was absurd (even tho I’ve always worked in commercial HVAC/systems) and asked a coworker who used to have his own installation contracting biz. Referred me to a guy he knows and literally was like $5200 for the identical scope but just changing the name on the equipment (which in most cases isn’t all the different from one another).

while Bryant isn’t "bad”, they are the discount version of the Carrier product (tho I’m not sure how Carrier brands their VRV systems). Mitsubishi is their own name brand and very common on the commercial side.

I love AV contractors that do a job for half of what I quote with cheaper equipment. Means I'll get to go in 3 years later and fix all the problems

Do you guys (AV industry as a whole, not specific to your products) even have Warranty on your parts and labor? Or is it all so suspect that its just the installation cost and anything that goes wrong, 3 years later in this case, is just an excuse to shaft the customer?

Probably to shaft the guy that went with the cheaper route without checking into it. I have contractors that have special pricing to fix other peoples messes after they went with the "cheap" guy to begin with.

Maybe he has to do actual work for a change. Hopefully he didn't get caught up in a riot

his last post was a mom joke, so at least that's fitting.

We were told over 12.5k for the Bryant system.  Didn't even get the Mitsubishi quote.

Not doing it.

Parts are under warranty, we back our work though. Nothing formal but if something goes wrong we'll come out and fix it.

I just replaced my A/C (which was toast) and did the gas furnace, too, since they were both 24 years old with mid-grade systems (not builder grade but not premium either) for less.  The A/C is a 16 SEER and furnace is 96 efficiency rating.  Should get $150 credit from the electric co for the A/C and $500 from the gas company for the furnace, too.

One of the last things Mr. Di diagnosed here was the cause for a blown fuse.  Yes, I still have fuses.  The landlord listened intently to this problem.  There's a window that is rotting out, also a downspout that should be extended further away from the house.  When it rains, it seems some moisture is getting in and it's right behind the panel, thus -not good.  Water will kill your home.  Even a drip at a time.  At some point it all adds up and boom!  Problem!

Anyway, I'm soon to be upgraded with a new panel.  Meanwhile my 220v -1.5 ton AC unit that goes in the rotted window (living room side window that has the outlet) just can't happen until it's replaced.  UGH.  I do have a smaller AC unit and cannot decide where to place it.  Living room (a front facing window), or the bedroom?

I dont get it.... We can buy a 4 zone system for like 5,000 dollars. How the hell is installation so much for what many people can DIY? We were expecting 8-10000. Not 12500.
