June 23, 20205 yr at this point im willing to risk getting sick by going into the office to get the F out of this house.
June 23, 20205 yr So my son (who was going to move to Florida this Thursday) called me and said he was offered $20,000. more per year to work remotely and he wouldn't have to move. I'm pretty darned happy right now.

June 25, 20205 yr Couple of general questions for the financial whizs here. Life insurance is non taxable, correct? How about a pension income? I haven't gotten to social security yet. I was thinking I can deal with that part a little later. If I don't need to collect anything from Mr. Di's (that may have tax implications?) and I can survive on my salary, I'd like to try that 1st.

Pension death benefits will be if they are the form of a inherited retirement account (and not some life insurance provision). You can elect to have taxes withheld on any distributions once you start taking them. For PA they wouldn't be taxable.

I was shocked that I already received a letter from this pension group, so I called them today. Mr. Di worked in a mfg. plant years ago that went out of business and it's from this fund. It's maybe $100. a month, or even less, but I'll take it. As long as I don't have to jump through too many hoops. I'm not 60 yet, so I'm reading that I may have to wait until then to collect anything from his SS. Well except the one time $255. What a joke. I won't even tell you what I paid for his burial.

It's enough to take care of the funeral, kids, house, college, etc...while still working but not enough for my wife to decide it's a good idea to poison me to collect a fortune.

My dad's mother passed a couple years before him, and that made his spiral downwards even worse. She had a $10,000 life insurance policy that went to him... and he never cashed it. He still spoke with one of her close friends (a guy my grandmother talked to on the phone almost daily, and who I know as a result). My dad was hospitalized for the umpteenth time (supposedly permanently, but that never happened), and my grandmothers friend mentioned the life insurance check and my dad's repeated drunken phone calls about how he doesn't want the money. Well... he and I have the same first and last name, so I took it and deposited it into my bank when I was down there like 4 years and that's the last I ever saw/heard of it.... so I just always assumed they are tax free
