Just got back from my mother's oncologist. They're really happy with the results of her latest CT Scan. All of the cancer has reduced a little. So a really good report.

They only fly very short distances at a time so they haven't crossed the Susquehanna River yet.  I thought for sure they'd cross the river riding on trucks/cars headed to Penn State games last fall but that didn't seem to happen.  By the end of the summer last year they had spread into Dauphin County though, so it is only a matter of time until we pick up a few hitchhikers and then they'll explode around here and continue to spread West.

My in-laws own an auto transport trucking company and they have to get special permits for their trucks to travel out of the area.  Think it's a bit of a money grab if you ask me.

'SQUISH IT!' Scientists calling on everyone to kill spotted lanternflies on sight

HUNTINGDON VALLEY, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- A Montgomery County, Pennsylvania family is taking matters into their own hands after finding their spotted lanternfly problem only keeps getting bigger.

They're easy to spot with their white dots and red backs, before last summer, spotted lanternflies had never been in Giancarlo Podio's Huntingdon Valley yard.

"These nets completely fill up by the evening. There's no more room for them," he explained, describing a trap made of rubber and netting from his 3D printer.

6317313_071420-wpvi-spotted-lanterflies-

He says he has thousands of spotted lanternflies and they're multiplying.

Entomologists say this is the time of year lanternflies transition from nymphs to adults.

"They were literally everywhere. Like the tree was literally more lanternflies than it was tree at that point. It was ridiculous," said Podio's son, Nicola.

"I like solving problems and this one presented itself in my backyard, so it's just another project. It's just something else to keep us busy-- a good distraction from COVID-19," said Podio.

Researchers with the Academy of Natural Sciences at Drexel University say the real danger is the effect the bug can have on plants.

"They're a type of plant hopper that feeds on vines, but also some of our trees, like black walnuts and maples," said Karen Verderame with the Academy of Natural Sciences.

"Usually we like to say to respect wildlife, but the best thing to do if you see one is to squish it," she said.

With thousands of dead bugs on their tree's base, the Podio's just hope nature will take over.

"I spread them around the base of the trees. I see a lot of birds and other insects coming to eat them. So I'm kind of hoping one of them will develop a taste for them and start hunting them," said Podio.

The Department of Agriculture is asking anyone who has an infestation to report it so it can trace and contain the bug.

My BIL setup that net/bag trap.  He has a huge silver maple that I saw some nymphs on in early June and warned him.  Worked amazingly good.  I'd spend a week trying to do that on my property.  Hook up sevin to hose.  Hose tree.  let birds eat the pile of dead ones at the bottom.

What the F is going on up there?  Charlotte's biggest problem for awhile was cankerworms.  When I first moved here in 2011, it was unbelievable.  They were EVERYWHERE.  Webs and worms everywhere you walked.  And for some reason that can't be explained, they were only here.  Nowhere else.  Luckily since I've moved back, I haven't seen any of them in a few years.

China bugs.  Not only did they launch a biological war on us but also a bug infestation with no natural predator here.  Came into Berks county on a fruit or vegetable shipment.

But we are a close second :-)  I have to write blog posts and constantly add pics to our adoption profile so I’ve been trying to find as many pre-pandemic as possible so it’s not all a bunch of selfies in our living room in pajamas.

Kelly's most recent thing is to say ''hello'' to everyone in the store and then add '' i like your ______(shirt, pants, shoes, hair....)'' .

Do they cause damage?  Is there a risk?

Their MO is that they enter an area and feed on all of the trees until they kill everything off then move onto the next area.

Geraldo's Game by Stephan King

An elderly woman shots and kills her ex after he breaks into her home and threatens to kill her.

Officers are called and arrive to find a 69-year-old woman tied to a bed by her ankles and a dead male nearby.

The woman tells police that she had ended a relationship with the man several months ago and had a protective order against him because he had made threats against her.

She said landscapers accidentally left her garage door open, allowing her ex to enter her home. She told police he entered her bedroom and threatened to kill her before he was going to kill himself.

After the her ex demanded her firearm, the woman reached for her gun and then fired several shots at him, according to police reports.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
