Since you guys hate cooking its super easy to make (just use a pasta\marinara sauce instead of the blend in the recipie) and very much a comfort food. You basically mix the pasta sauce, itallian seasoning, salt, and if you want it spicy some red pepper flakes and\or cayenne pepper in a bowl. Mix the ground beef with the sauce mix. Flatten out the mix and sprinkle some mozzarella in the center. Roll it up into a ball, put on a baking sheet (lined with tin foil) and cover with more sauce and cheese. 20 mins in the oven at 400. No bs bread filler and its nice and moist. never tried with cheese or pasta cause, but crushed red pepper is a staple in my recipe. I use ground mustard which I think gives a good flavor dynamic to it. I have ground turkey in the freezer that I will thaw at some point to do a meatloaf (made some 2 weeks ago and hasn't been long enough yet since 5ish consecutive meals from the last one). Maybe I attempt this mozzarella meatball thingy.
April 24, 20205 yr That meatloaf recipe is one of my favorites.. it doesn't take long to make at all but it's a great comfort food which is suprisingly diet friendly. I am off dairy right now and even when paco makes it without the cheese it's good.
April 24, 20205 yr I'll just put this here. Our daughter sent out a message to folks last week or so about her Dad and we have received some mail. Cards and messages and such, it's a huge spirit lifter. As we got home today, got a little prayer book from my niece. She's 13. I just found it fitting for today. From Padre Pio: "The devil is like a rabid dog tied to a chain. Beyond the length of the chain, he cannot seize anyone. So, for you, keep your distance. If you approach too near, you will let yourself be caught."

But cooking instead of eating out has been a big factor. We tend to cook healthier than what I would typically order. Plus getting the Peloton (I'm so nervous!) for christmas helps. Same. I eat like it's the last supper when ever I go out. I order the tastiest things in the largest portion I can get with no shame. Desert? Yes please! I never eat desert at home. It's my treat I work hard dam it. 😂 I never knew bobeph was the family chef. 👀

April 26, 20205 yr Came back to the states b/c wifey needed an operation 1 month ago. I really had no choice b/c it was serious. Airlines cancelled my flight the day before I had to fly so I had to pay an extra $1700 (on top of the $1300 I already paid) to fly home the next day with an added layover. Literally everyone overseas was wearing a mask, gloves, even full hazmat type plastic suits while traveling. When I landed in Miami nobody was wearing anything and people were looking at me and taking videos of me on their phones like I was the idiot b/c I was wearing a mask and gloves. It was crazy.

I have a ways to go to get where I want to be but I’m actually feeling really good. No longer taking constant fertility injections is a big reason. How are you finding the peloton? I thought about running but my knees and hips aren't what they used to be from football and wearing cop gear for years, so the peloton seems like a good low impact way to get some cardio in?

I love the peloton. I do it almost every day and look forward to it. I don't have knee problems, but paco does and can speak to that. I have severe lower back issues with 2 herniated discs and so far so good. The only caveat is I stick to mostly low impact workouts right now. Those don't usually go out of the saddle.. going out of the saddle may be difficult on the knees. The nice thing is there are a plethora of workouts at all different levels so at the very least you can work low impact until you build up the strength to do more advanced workouts.
April 27, 20205 yr I prefer running, because it gets me out of the house, and the scenery changes, but it does a cumulative number on my feet and legs. I'll get through a few months, little problems gradually getting worse, then I'll have to take a week or two off to let stuff heal before I can get back to it again. Getting old sucks. Having said that, from my experiences, if the goal is cardio and calorie burn, the stationary bike isn't far off from a run if you're pushing yourself on it, and it's a hell of a lot easier on the legs.

I've thought about getting an exercise bike because I despise the elliptical we already have so very much. I just don't feel like I ever really push myself hard enough to get a really good workout on the elliptical - does the bike do a better job of helping you to push yourself?

My right knee is shot and my left knee isn't great. My findings is this, for the most part, its been fine. Mind you I have been doing mostly low impact rides that do gradual resistance vs the rides where you get out of the saddle a lot. I'm trying to get my stamina up before I start doing that crap. The only issue I had so far was fairly early on where I was pushig myself pretty hard. I had the resistance up further than I should probably put it and I noticed my knee was bothering me. I took a day off and the next day or too I got rides in but took it easy and it was fine. I'm betting that as I continue, and the musles\tendons around it build up, I could probably do that amount with no issue in the future.

I just don't feel like I ever really push myself hard enough to get a really good workout on the elliptical - does the bike do a better job of helping you to push yourself? We have an elliptical as well but we're just going to sell it. At the gym I really like elliptical workouts but I feel like the drop off in quality of equipment between a home version and gym version is a lot. The peloton is great because there are a wide variety of classes, so if you feel like you're not getting enough out of it you can take a more advanced class. They also give you a range in the metrics so you can start out on the lower end, and crank it up higher if you feel you need more of a challenge. I mean there are classes I'm no where NEAR being able to take like the tabata rides.. but one day I'm hoping I can get there. For now, I'm happy with my progress - which is another plus - it tracks your output so you can see how you're doing and you can make sure you're pushing yourself hard enough. The subscription also comes with other classes - so I try to take the yoga classes, and this weekend while we were at the shore I took a dance cardio class because I obviously didn't have the bike with me. The subscription is $39/month.. well worth what you get imo.
