We have an elliptical as well but we're just going to sell it.  At the gym I really like elliptical workouts but I feel like the drop off in quality of equipment between a home version and gym version is a lot.

The peloton is great because there are a wide variety of classes, so if you feel like you're not getting enough out of it you can take a more advanced class.  They also give you a range in the metrics so you can start out on the lower end, and crank it up higher if you feel you need more of a challenge.  I mean there are classes I'm no where NEAR being able to take like the tabata rides.. but one day I'm hoping I can get there.  For now, I'm happy with my progress - which is another plus - it tracks your output so you can see how you're doing and you can make sure you're pushing yourself hard enough.  The subscription also comes with other classes - so I try to take the yoga classes, and this weekend while we were at the shore I took a dance cardio class because I obviously didn't have the bike with me.  The subscription is $39/month.. well worth what you get imo.

I have friends with both the Peloton and the Mirror. I think the Peloton seems like a better put together thing, though hearing cool things about Tonal. There are beginning to be a bunch of them now between the Nordic Track version and different form factors with the mirror, bike, treadmill and such.  I think there's even a boxing one with gloves and a bag but no video. I'm waiting for the rowing one or until they make one that converts from bike to rowing and back.

Just got back from my mother's oncologist. They're really happy with the results of her latest CT Scan. All of the cancer has reduced a little. So a really good report.

Hi twistr!

I looked at a rowing one that seemed pretty nice (Hydrow), but I don't know if it has the content that something like Peloton does.  For equipment, Peloton currently has the bike and a tread.  I'm hoping they come out with a mirror product and that the classes included will just be part of the $39/mo we already pay.  I'd love the mirror for yoga classes.

I love the peloton.  I do it almost every day and look forward to it.  I don't have knee problems, but paco does and can speak to that.  I have severe lower back issues with 2 herniated discs and so far so good.  The only caveat is I stick to mostly low impact workouts right now.  Those don't usually go out of the saddle.. going out of the saddle may be difficult on the knees.  The nice thing is there are a plethora of workouts at all different levels so at the very least you can work low impact until you build up the strength to do more advanced workouts.

Luckily I'm not so bad that I can't get out of the saddle to push. The biggest issue is that I've put on some weight so that isn't helping my knees and hips, but yeah I'm going to need to build up. Good thing about the amount of workouts.

How are the shoes that come with the package? I was looking at that one, but I might get a different set of cycling shoes if those ones are so so.

I prefer running, because it gets me out of the house, and the scenery changes, but it does a cumulative number on my feet and legs.  I'll get through a few months, little problems gradually getting worse, then I'll have to take a week or two off to let stuff heal before I can get back to it again.  Getting old sucks.  Having said that, from my experiences, if the goal is cardio and calorie burn, the stationary bike isn't far off from a run if you're pushing yourself on it, and it's a hell of a lot easier on the legs.

Yeah back in my cop days I used to run three miles a day, but I don't have to catch bad guys anymore, so I'm just looking for something to shed some pounds and keep generally healthy. Now that I'm in my 30s I'm caring less about having a beach body and more so setting myself up so I don't have a massive coronary in my 50s.

My findings is this, for the most part, its been fine.  Mind you I have been doing mostly low impact rides that do gradual resistance vs the rides where you get out of the saddle a lot.  I'm trying to get my stamina up before I start doing that crap.  The only issue I had so far was fairly early on where I was pushig myself pretty hard.  I had the resistance up further than I should probably put it and I noticed my knee was bothering me.  I took a day off and the next day or too I got rides in but took it easy and it was fine.  I'm betting that as I continue, and the musles\tendons around it build up, I could probably do that amount with no issue in the future.

How long have you been using it for?

Man - $39/mo seems like a lot.  Beachbody On Demand is $99 for a whole year.  Lots of good options on there - low impact stuff all the way up to serious high intensity cardio and weightlifting.  But - they don't have an exercise bike that talks to you either

I like the shoes.. I haven't had any problems with them so far.  They fit well, feel sturdy, and clip in nicely.

I used to think that you were actually in your 30's.  Given the various life histories that you've shared, though, I'm now thinking that either you were born on a leap year, or that's in dog years.

I don't know how Beachbody On Demand works.. I've done Beachbody workout DVDs before but never a membership.  A Y membership would cost $117.50/month for me and paco - of course that includes the pool and gym equipment.  But with paco on the road most of the time, he never gets to use it and with this, he can use it on the road, and there are some hotels he stays in that actually have Peloton equipment.  Also, we can have like 40 people on our subscription - so far I have my sisters on it so they have access to the entire library and the live classes.

Cut the tip of my thumb off last night. Just the tip! After 2 hours of nonstop bleeding we were forced to go to the ER. Place was empty.

Lost the chunk I cut off so there was nothing for them to sew back together, so they cauterized it. Hurts like hell today.

Uggghhh... that sucks, I'm sorry!  I cut the tip off of my ring finger right after I had moved in with paco while making dinner for him for the first time.  And I had to drive myself to the ER while he sat comfortably in the passenger seat, trying to steer and shift while bleeding out on one hand.  Luckily they were able to sew it back together but my GOD the Novocaine in the hand was one of the worst pains I've ever felt and I have a high pain tolerance.  I have a weird bump on that fingertip now.

If it was the middle finger, that gives you a built in excuse

Shoes are nice, just take a little getting use to.  Also, at hotel gyms I noticed insteand of the clip ins, they have the harness for regular shoes.  May be an option

I almost gave you a HAHA emoji to be a D.  But honestly, Sorry to hear that.  Schmoopie went through something similar when she first moved in.  Luckly, they were able to attach the part that got sliced off.

 I remember that story.

Yeah, those shots into my thumb were pretty painful. Way worse than the ones you get from the dentist.  Luckily, by the time we determined I had to go to the ER I was pretty well intoxicated....and yes I realize drinking is not the best thing to do when you're trying to get something to stop bleeding but...F it.

Yeah, I feel pretty stupid. It's not like I"m a noob with a knife (good name for a band) I cook all the time. There's just a small chunk missing, I don't think it will be noticeable....it just would not stop bleeding....and I would not stop drinking.

Probably not the best idea.

If you chopped off much of the padding you may find a hypersensitivity at the tip since the bone is so much more close to the surface now. If they didnt have a hand surgeon consult in the ED you should seek one on your own for an evaluation to discuss surgical options should it come to that. They can transpose some tissue from elsewhere to help add padding, as well as skin grafting if they needed to close the wound. And there are desensitization techniques that an occupational therapist can help with.

Hopefully itll be fine, but know that you have options if its not.

BeachBody on demand you literally have access to every single workout program they have - all the P90 programs, insanity, piyo, etc.  The one downside is buying dumbbells - those F’ers are expensive

That’s awesome that you have can have that many people on the subscription at least - you could split the cost if needed

isn't it pretty normal to find hypersensitivity at the tip?

what was I thinking? Generally it is the uncut tip that is more sensitive than the cut tip. You are right.

I bought these and like 10 other things a couple black Friday’s ago just before close. Had so much stuff they had it all stacked on those wheely cart things. Price seemed kinda low (even tho there were crazy discounts).. maybe like $500 in total, but it was late and I didn’t think much about it. Got home and was looking over the receipt and realized they never scanned in the price of the dumbbells.
