Just got back from my mother's oncologist. They're really happy with the results of her latest CT Scan. All of the cancer has reduced a little. So a really good report.

Harley won't stay at the house at night any more.  She said she woke up and opened the Master Bedroom door to use the bathroom and saw a woman in the guest bedroom pointing towards the stairs.  I said "Are you sure that's not my ex?"

She wasn't amused.

I've eaten nothing but chili since Sunday.  My colon is doing great

I think my tv is dying.  Yesterday it was pixeling a little. Shut it off/on and was fine. This morning it started making noise. Like buzzing.  Unplugged and still have the noise.

How do you know if it’s the tv, or the equipment?  The cable guy was here a couple of months ago as I downgraded some boxes and service since it’s just me and my daughter said the bill was ridiculous.

so that’s my question.  I think it’s the tv. It’s probably close to 10 yrs old ?  I don’t know. So many things wrong here and I’m pissed I have to care about it and fix it!

TIA for any advice for ‘ol Di.

Was it buzzing while it was unplugged?

Um no.  At first I thought it was something else.  Took me a minute to figure out what it was.

You might try unplugging every device from the tv, turning the tv on, and seeing if you still hear that buzzing.

It’s the tv.  95.5% sure. It’s probably 14 or 15 yrs old.  I unplugged everything, changed the old metal plug in strip to a newer surge protector one and still noise.

I wrote 95.5 as that was my temperature reading this morning checking in at work.  I’ve reported an intermittent gas smell here and I’m sleeping with the windows open. I don’t understand why at times it’s fine and other times it’s not. When I get the landlord here it’s always fine after reporting this several times.  There is something wrong.  He probably thinks I’m crazy.   I really miss Mr Dis diagnostic skills.  Mine are lacking.  I’m teetering on remaining calm and reasonable in dealing with issues and not being too impulsive and lighting a match.

Sort of like how coaching staff and team should get it together despite being 0-2.  It’s not the end of the world.  Focus on the here and now and go forward a day, or even a minute or second at a time.

Gotta go, I’m missing re runs of Love it or List it being banished to the adapter box in my bedroom.

So what kind of TV do I buy? Which brand is best?  And how much is this going to cost me?

I have Comcast  cable pkg and their wifi. I use my son's Netflix.  I have a Roku thing, but I don't really need that since I get Netflix thru the cable box.  Was thinking can take the stick to the beach cottage to use someday.

I just want a good picture and good sound.  Will I need a engineering degree to hook it up and only have 1 remote?

your cable box remote should be able to sync with whatever tv you buy so you'd only need 1 remote.  how big of a tv are you looking for?  they've come way down in price, btw. you can get a 40" tv for a couple hundred bucks.

I started looking and saw they are not as expensive as I remember years ago.

The one there now is 32", I'd have to measure my little wooden bench it sits on to see if I can do a 40" as the pics look like the feet are on both ends of the tvs..  The way things are going for me, I'd just pick one, bring it home and it would be too big for the bench.  Going to measure first.  Thanks for your help

yw.  keep in mind when they say a tv is 40", it means the screen is 40" diagonally.  so you'll have to look up the actual measurements of the tv to make sure it will fit on your bench.

Yes dear, measure twice, cut once.   TY

sound bar, do your research and take into account how your living room is built (ie. vaulted ceilings), tv's are still horrible for audio but you can pick up a decent one for <$175 without having a full home theater.

there's a bro-ad i work with who says "knock, knock" every time she comes to my office door for something. never actually knocks...just says, "knock, knock"...100% of the time.

I love my Sony's, but you pay up for them.  My oldest bought a new TV a couple of weeks ago.  Originally bought a Samsung.  Got it home, hung it on the wall, turned it on, bright spots everywhere.  Took it back to BestBuy the next morning, and were told that they get Samsungs back all the time.  While doing the return the customer service lady yelled to her coworker, "We got another one!", to which the coworker replied, "I think that Samsung TV's are such trash".  While returning the Samsung, they called their in store guru over to talk to us, and he's a big fan of LG.  Basically the same specs as the Samsung, for $200 less.  We went with the LG.  It's been working well for him.  I have to admit that their Magic Remote is pretty cool, too.  All of the manufacturers should go that route.

I've had nothing but Samsung TVs for the past decade or better and they've worked perfectly  Then again they were plasmas - I haven't bought a new TV since they stopped making the plasmas

yeah, i f'n love the 82" samsung i bought a few months back. diapers can probably get away with one of the less expensive brands if she's just looking to replace a 10-15 year old 32" tv. murder she wrote will look just as good on a hisense as it would on a top of the line sony.

I will say that he bought one of the value Samsung's , the UN65TU8000FXZA I think it was, so if you bought a more premium model you may have better results

Chickie brought her 60" LG when she moved down here, it was already years old. Still works aces.

You're a funny guy!!

Thanks zuk.

I was only home for 1/2 hr or so last night and the thing worked but then made that noise, so I smacked it and it stopped!  I also could not find the tape measure.  I think I left it at the beach.
