I like the trade and think the value was fine. He’s a good player who’s had double digit sack years in the past. He’s coming off a down year but let’s hope that was just a down year and not a trend of him being closer to 30. But the contract? Yeah I don’t love that contract… Is he better than Phillips? I’m not sure he is yet he’s not far off in terms of the contract.

1 year removed

This year has not happened yet and last year he was hurt. The year before he was great.

The year before that he was great.

We are not 2 years removed from winning the SB. Its 1 year removed. He was great the year we won the Super Bowl.

By the time he plays for us, it will have been "2 seasons ago" that he had his last productive season. But I get what you're saying...tomato, tomahto. Regardless, I just hope they get good return on their investment with him. Barring injury, I can see him being super motivated and producing this year...but after that? If he helps us get to and/or win the SB this year, I certainly won't care about what we gave up for him. I like Greenard, my only issue is that 2027 3rd we gave up.

One thing this guy will do is maybe relieve some pressure on Jalen Carter with double teams. They can't double everyone. I believe our pass rush is going to be a top 5 defense and this guy will be a big part of it.

Yep.

It could also, on certain downs and distances, help free up JD, Hunt, Nolan and Moro.

If they all can stay healthy, yeesh, we'll have one scary DL.

Phillips has never had a 10 sack season and has had no more than 6 sacks in the past 3 seasons. He does have youth on his side.

If we get close to 2024-2025 Greenard, which is very possible, the draft picks and the contract will be a bargain.

So 2 comp picks. Howie is unreal

Kind of crazy how he manipulates the draft and the cap like he does. Now he's been doing the job with the selections too. The best thing that happened to Howie was being put in the basement by Chip Kelly.

Haha, great point. This goes unnoticed a lot of the time. He came out of that basement, without his red stapler, HOWIE STRONG. groovy

Is the 4th year a dummy year/voidable?

Greenard is a better player than Phillips, in 2-3 years probably not

Oh for sure. IMO, he'll be shot in 3 years. Easily.

What’s the 4th year look like on that extension?

Dead money? Voidable?

  • 2 weeks later...

Greenard will benefit from the push that Carter, Davis and Ojomo get. We saw what Davis can do when he's in shape, Ojomo gets better each year and Carter needs to improve this year. Reports are he's in great shape and working hard to improve on last year.

Hunt made a big jump last year and hopefully, that improves. Nolan Smith didn't progress as expected but was hurt for 5 games......hopefully, he plays for a bigger contract.

The Dline is on the verge of being dominant again......can't wait to see it.

Likely there will be some type of restructure. Howie always makes it work. Howie's been manipulating that cap for over a decade now. I wouldn't worry about it.
