Carson Wentz discussion: no new topics about Wentz.

I think people who think the Eagles aren't able to get good compensation for him are being short-sighted. I mean, just a few months ago Chicago gave a 4th round to get Nick Foles, who also had a big contract and a horrible season in Jax.

I don't buy this idea that the Lions asked for an extra first round just to "absorb" Goff's contract. That's what they probably told the Rams, but in the end, they wanted to maximize Stafford's value while getting a very capable QB like Goff

QBs are valuable and I would dare to bet that the Eagles could get a 1st round easily. Wentz had a very bad year but he's not a "bottom 5" QB as some say. He had a bottom 5 season but at the very least he's average and has shown elite potential. I mean, he was voted the second best player in the NFL, he should have been MVP, and was having a fantastic career stat-wise until 2019. You just need a couple of teams that believe they can return him to that form.

EVERY coach believes they have the ability to change a guy when they really like him (even if he has performed well or has glaring weaknesses). Its just human nature to believe we can fix things, and its the nature of coaching at the highest level.

Please, please, please..we can not be depending on Hurts at QB full time.  Can we?

Nah, he owes more than that. Part of what comes with being a franchise QB, being paid millions of dollars, is speaking to the media. Whether the players (or some fans) like it or not, that IS part of the job.

Wrong.  He owes communication to the Owner and organization.  It may have come to be expected by the public that QBs talk openly, but it is certainly not mandatory.  We are entitled to nothing.

Sure during the season, but I very much disagree with that during the off-season.

It’s part of being the LEADER of the team. Then again, there have been question around Carson’s leadership for several years now so should come as no surprise.

They have requirements to do post-game press conferences and locker room interviews and all of that.

They're not required to speak to the media in the offseason just because reporters want to spread rumors with no sources.

This has gotten ridiculous. These are the facts as we know them:

1. Wentz is under contract.

2. Wentz is not happy how last season went or how the team has handled things. Hell are any of us happy about any of that????

3. The team decided to change coaching staffs.

4. The team has stated they will field offers for Wentz.

We have no idea how Wentz feels right now and neither does anyone else including the "media" who love to put their opinions out there as though they know what's going on even when they don't. The fact is Wentz is under contract so it really doesn't matter at all what he wants so why on earth would he feel the need to state anything publicly? The organization has all the control over the situation. Nobody outside of Wentz or the organization if even them knows what he wants and it really doesn't matter anyway. The important thing is what does the organization want and quite frankly I can't figure that out myself with all the contradicting crap the "media" puts out there.

All of the players are away from the team.  IT IS THEIR TIME.  He will speak when he returns form his personal time.

Weird, Jalen Hurts just spoke. Plenty of players spoke right at the end of the season. Their supposed "leader” chose not to.

The coaching staff isn't finished

The coach hasn't had a chance to meet with the yet unfinished staff to design a playbook

Wentz has no idea how they intend to fully use him nor looked at a playbook to make an educated statement

Yet he has to just come out and say something to appease fans who are freaking out just to make a statement?

The Eagles may not even be sure if they want to keep him yet if calls are coming in. Wentz is probably wondering what is going on there as well, so there is no reason to say a word right now.

He is gone, probably enjoying the time with his new child.  Give me a list of the other Eagles who have had spoken to the media since the team left the facility.

Again, he didn’t have to do it after leaving the facility. A bunch of players spoke at the season’s end, before leaving. The rumors were already out there then.  Even Ertz who is like 95% going to be gone, spoke. Crybaby Wentz decided not to.

STOP IT.  Hurts was on a charity tour with Oikos Greek Yogurt during Super Bowl media week.  You guys need to stop acting like Hurts is doing some media publicity tour to declare himself the starting QB.  He did ONE interview and it was for the charity event, and they asked him questions about his situation and he said nothing interesting.

A few players did interviews after the season.  Ertz, Kelce, a couple others if I recall.  We haven't heard from Cox, Jason Peters, Lane Johnson or other veterans of the team.  Some of them might be leaving, Kelce has flirted with retirement.  No one is getting upset those guys aren't talking.

Why does it bother YOU so much that Carson isn't doing media or tweeting?  Is that really keeping you up at night?

I don't like the word "entitled" because you're right, we're not. Still, Wentz has done nothing to dispel his image as a petulant, under-performing...yes entitled...guy.

Rich Eisen says he has spoken to someone in the Eagles organization and is confirming that Wentz is on the trade block. TIFWIW

I call BS.  Rich Eisen spoke to someone with the Eagles ??  Highly doubt it, and then using Joe Banner's tweet to back up his point.  🤡🌏

Hurts is still making appearances, trying to build relationships with players. Way it's looking Wentz maybe closer out the door than we think.

petulant?  This narrative is getting ridiculous.

I mean we all saw he had a bad year performance wise.  One of my criticisms of him was saying he wasn't going to change his style of play, always be aggressive.

But people that know him have always said he's a high character guy.  This narrative that he's whiny, a crybaby, weak, soft, etc. is coming from media baseless "reports" and people literally saying they are "guessing" or it's their own opinion and you guys are running with it.

No he didn't.

He said someone "familiar with the Eagles plans" and then clarified "source knowledgeable, however you want to put it."  His co-host said "source close to the situation," to which Eisen said "I don't want to even term it anymore about how close or what."

His next sentence: Ian Rappaport and others...he talks about reporters reporting it.

So what's "familiar with the Eagles' plans" mean?  Yesterday ESPN had Sal Pal on and they said no one knows the Eagles like him (despite not being true).

It very well may be true.  I don't think Eisen is lying.  And the Eagles could be looking for trade offers.  But this is how things get spun out of control.  He did not say he spoke to someone in the Eagles organization.

Yeah, I have bought into the some of the narrative about his character, he seems to have a ego that I would never have guessed before our super bowl run. And his ego has soured as of late. But I have never doubted the mental toughness of Carson, he clearly puts it all on the line when he is out there on the field. I cant say the same for all of our players.

Im not sure where I stand with trading him, I am leaning towards doing it if we get the right offer. Who knows if he still has it? But just know if he gets traded, we will definitely find out. He will be driven by the criticism, and he will be where he is valued (thats a deadly combination).

The way I see it:

1) Wentz has no obligation to speak to the media right now. To be honest, Id rather he didn't. If he requested a trade, that wouldn't help. If he said he was happy in Philadelphia at the moment and keen to compete with Hurts he would be lying. Happy with him keeping his head down.

2) The Eagles probably are listening to trade offers. If they aren't, the Eagles should deny it. Doesn't mean they are going to trade him, but they are open.

3) The Eagles should only trade Wentz if they get a good return. I still think he is fixable to get back to at least 2018/2019 levels. That being said, Hurts has potential as well and with Wentz's injury history and recent performance if somebody wants to blow us away with an offer that helps restock the team and gives us a year to look at Hurts, then we have to think about it.
