I know some of you still don’t believe it, but this is all 100% driven by Wentz. Whatever the Eagles can get for a guy who doesn’t want to be here is kind of a win.

I guess Carson knows Doug got permission from Lurie and Howie to bench him, but there still has to be more than a benching for him to be upset if it’s true.

I’m sure he can, and I know those negotiations used to have an effect of the cap of the former team, but I haven’t kept up with it honestly, and I’m not sure if it still does.

Well the "report" back then was that Doug was stubbornly holding onto Wentz and Lurie wanted him to bench him for Hurts. 🤷‍♂️

Exactly.

Players renegotiate to help get under the cap all the time.

This has been posted on here at least 20 times. The $33.8 million cap hit is for his signing bonus money that was paid when he signed his new contract. You cannot re-negotiate cap hits for signing bonus money paid. I’m sick and tired of having to say this, the cap hit is not going to change.

They talked about this on the NFL network two weeks ago, the only way the cap hit can be lowered for the Eagles is Carson Wentz hast to write a check and pay back his signing bonus money.

That coach is gone and allegedly for the quarterback so.....🤷‍♂️

That was my point back in November. Once you go down that path, once you make a decision to bench your franchise QB / team leader, it always ends badly. I would not have done it. I know the fans and media try to control the team, but a HC has to have the balls to stick with his guns. If you give in to the pressure, you might die on somebody else's terms. Doug should have at least gone out shooting. He could have taken the blame for Wentz' struggles himself instead of doing what he did. He didn't have a higher win percentage with he QB he switched to. So the whole decision to replace Wentz didn't help the team. It didn't help Doug. It didn't help Wentz. Ertz wants out. Kelce (purely my speculation) will probably call it a career. This only helped Hurts.

Can't blame Doug because Hurts isn't a starter i n the NFL. I guess we now know for sure that was a Howie pick...not that we didn't already guess that, which makes things even more problematic because he can't pick talent for crap.

Well they did draft Hurts, and Howie confirmed Wentz wasn’t happy about it. When it comes down to it the Eagles created the Wentz monster baby, by coddling him as much as they did. From the beginning he’s been handed the job, and the people who may have been difficult for him to deal with were sent away. They gave him a huge contract when they didn’t have to. In the end he repaid them by wanting out. In a strange way Howie looks smarter for drafting Hurts now.

There is nothing that can be renegotiated to lower the dead cap hit the Eagles take on.

Wentz would have to agree to give back some of his bonus. But there is probably no real reason for him to want to do that.

Thank you.

The current cap hit to trade Wentz is 33.8 million. If the Eagles wanted to lower that number to 20 million, Carson Wentz has to write them a check for $13.8 million. Why on earth would he do that?

It would make zero sense unless he, not Howie, was the one orchestrating the trade.

Carson Wentz was terrible last season. They couldn’t keep putting him out there. They were losing the team. He had to be benched and it should have happened earlier. Frankly if he can’t bounce back from that or handle competition then I’m glad he’s gone.

Apparently he really wants out so I don’t think anything is off the table.

What makes you think Carson’s people aren’t involved in this?

It has never happened before and it’s not going to happen now. He has zero reason to pay the Eagles back any money.

Exactly.

Even this off-season he’s spending more time making power moves behind the scenes than working on his game. Of course one doesn’t work to improve if they feel like the are fine like they are.

You said this deal would never happen too. Apparently you are still underestimating how much Carson doesn’t want to be an Eagle.

The only teammate he "lost" was the anonymous offensive lineman. Remember the lineman that was released for conduct detrimental to the team? Here's a highlight video:

He has no reason to pay back the money.  The Eagles have two options, keep him or trade him. If they don’t trade him by the third day of the league year his salary becomes fully guaranteed for 2021, so he holds all the leverage in this situation.

Ryan Clark is not holding back! Question: Do people still believe that Wentz didn’t request this?

His reason is to get out. 🤷‍♂️

What are the Eagles gonna do if he doesn’t pay back his signing bonusmoney??

If the Eagles or Bears can’t logistically make the trade work and they tell him he needs to restructure to get out you don’t think he will? Heck he’s already been paid most of the guaranteed money anyway. Carson Wentz will do whatever he has to do to get out of here. Until he tells me or shows me otherwise I’m going to believe that.

What I remember most about this game is how awful the offense was for most of that game.  I don't think they even got a first down until Hurts game in late in the 2nd quarter I think it was and was given almost a series, a 3 or 4 players in a row where he was on the field and the Eagles offense instantly started rolling down the field.   It really jump started the comeback effort.

So funny ... Wentz never even addressed the media or gave them the time of day. He may have been displeased --- probably was displeased --- we all know it --- BUT, he never spoke about it publicly. He never went to the media to force his "way." I wonder ... if that is what Favre and Vermeil were talking about?  ... hmmmmmmmm ...

Some people try too hard.

So you think that guy was the source? Bottom line Wentz should have been benched sooner not later.
