Sports Illustrated now reporting we've had it backward all along - that Lurie and Howie wanted to go with Hurts but Doug was stuck on Wentz. SI says the team now belongs to Hurts as the starter.

Who knows the accuracy of this report but what it does make me think is... Howie wanted Russell Wilson several years ago right? So it may not be completely crazy that he likes Hurts who is similar in style.

At least he's smart enough to know what a joke Roseman is... Howie squandered his picks in 2020 no doubt about that... If Hurts is to start im rooting for him but passing on Jefferson and then taking a qb in round 2... I'd have fired him in the war room on the spot... I really don't get what Lurie sees in this guy... The Super Bowl win must have really went to his head

Well I guess we truly are going to see how much Lurie values Howie. If these reports are true then he's going to have to choose between Wentz and Howie.

If he was going to get rid of Howie I would think he'd have done it by now... I just don't get how he skates by with 0 accountability it's frustrating... I don't have any hate towards Wentz I still think he's capable of turning things around but for as bad as he played this year he was still better at his job than Howie was at his and that's saying something

You don't have to chose one or the other. Get rid of BOTH.

Fans:  Howie is the worst, a weasel, ruined the team, failed Carson, drafts badly, bad contracts, needs to be fired!

Also (some) fans:  Wentz is a crybaby, soft, weak and disloyal for wanting to be traded away from Howie.

https://www.si.com/nfl/eagles/news/eagles-appear-all-in-on-jalen-hurts-as-the-starting-qb-this-season

I've been reminding people for weeks that during the season the rumor/"report" was that Doug was holding onto Wentz and Howie/Lurie (Lowie lol) were pushing for Hurts.  That Doug didn't want to bench Wentz and he was forced to.

During Carson's awful season, Doug kept defending him and actually blamed the O line and receivers and the coaches as well.  When Hurts played well, Doug downplayed it and said it's a team game and he has a lot to work on.

Then Doug wanted to promote Press to OC - Carson's friend and a coach he liked.

So then the reports shifted to Doug wanted Hurts so he was fired to please Wentz.  People believed those reports for some reason.

Lots of different reports flying around this team all the time, many of them that contradict each other.

I'll say this:  if it's true that Howie wants Hurts and fired Doug for not being on board and wants to trade Carson and eat $34 million in cap space and probably cut other players to make cap room...

...then Lurie MUST put the accountability on Howie.  If Hurts doesn't work out then Howie has to be fired.  This needs to be the decision that finally gets him fired.

Howie should have been gone this off-season. Said that from the start. Then they should have let the new GM decide what to do with Doug and Wentz.

Here is my whole problem with Lurie letting Howie get away with this...during the Lurie press conference when the reporter asked about the missed draft picks, Jeffrey said something along the lines of....you aren't privy to what players we want and when they are taken 2 or 3 picks before.....it throws everything off.  I'm sorry, you as a general manager need to have a back up plan.  Also, I would have followed up with data.....so Jeffrey, your player is taken before you, do you understand that after your pick (this many Pro Bowlers) were picked?  And you didn't pick one?  You took a Reagor, and the next pick...same position was not only a Pro Bowler but All-Pro?  You took JJ "Can't catch a cold" Whiteside and 7 picks later Metcalf is taken?  NO!!!  And 22 picks later Washington takes McLaurin??  DOUBLE NO!!  Howie has drafted 1....ONE...ONE MOTHERF'N Pro Bowler and is about to send him off!  Jeff, I'm sorry, how many Pro Bowlers has Howie drafted?  And, for a cap guru, with a horrible team, how are you that far over the cap?  And you want to keep him??????

So let's see, it may be coming down to a QB that's done everything for this team including literally breaking his back or a little piece of weasel 💩 that has been slowly destroying this roster since after the SB.

Admittedly I'm a bit biased, but keep the QB and tell Howie to kick rocks.

Everyone is speculating now. First it was Doug wanted Hurts and now it’s Doug not being on board with Hurts. We don’t really know but all I know is Howie should have been the first to go this offseason.

The bad drafts and cap mismanagement is all on him. I blame him more than I blame either Doug or Carson for 2020 (not the latter two are blameless either)

Lurie will choose Howie over Wentz. In fact he already has.

Going to be interesting. If Wentz gets traded and regains form, Howie is gone.

If Wentz gets traded and looks like garbage, Howie will stay.

If Wentz stays, Howie is likely gone.

Buckle up folks, it's going to be a ride.

Didn't Howie draft Wentz?

We don't even know if any of the rumors about Carson are true.  Is he asking for a trade?  Is he demanding one?  Refusing to show up for camp if he's not traded?  We have no idea.  It could be mutual where both sides have politely agreed it's time to move on, or it could be all the team trying to trade him.

We have reports from direct sources that he has always been a good teammate and high character with strong work ethic.  We have a report from Malcolm Jenkins that the Eagles coddled his ego too much.  Every QB - heck every pro athlete - has an ego.  Normally, players are not criticized for wanting to be the starter.  Everyone wants to be the starter.

The reports are indicating trade talks are happening.  But I don't see anything other than typical pro athlete ego to indicate Carson is a bad person, or being disloyal after getting a big contract or anything.  Some say the organization failed Carson by drafting Hurts and not getting him weapons.  So you have people who see that both ways.

True but here are facts that we do know...

1. He skipped his exit interview

2. He could have put all of this to rest by publicly saying he wants to be here

3. He never even so much as sent a tweet congratulating the new coach and stating that he wants to work with him.

Those are facts. My opinion based on those facts is that

1. Its not a good look for the supposed leader of the team and franchise QB

2. Those facts added with various reports lead me to believe he's an entitled delta bravo.

All in all I'd rather move on from a guy like that, especially after a historically bad season. Even more so if we could get a 1st round pick for him.

Oh NO he didn't get on Twitter?!? Jesus H what kind of a leader doesn't go on social media to welcome the new guys??

🤡

There is nothing wrong with thinking both Howie AND Wentz should be gone.

Imagine if he had to play a whole season with that one game issue AND had 12 different rotations to boot. Its a team game and a great example showed how 2 tackles derailed an offense last night.

And still dialing up 50 passes 😬

Reports: Carson trade imminent and will be done shortly after the Super Bowl.  Deal with Bears close to being done...

Also a report:

I've said many times that I'm not basing this off of media reports. My complaints about Wentz actually pre-date this media shitstorm going back through the last two seasons. The media has merely backed up my instincts on Wentz. I distinctly remember this moment during in I believe a game against the Falcons at the beginning of the 2019 season. It was a pretty bad game for Wentz that got out of hand pretty quickly, and I just remember watching him walk off the field after a terrible play, probably an INT, and you could just see this indignance in his face, looking around angry and confounded as he walked off the field. The sense was that Wentz made a bad play, but he was looking around at his teammates, finding fault with someone else for the failed drive. And then I just started noticing that this was a regular thing that his body language was generally negative and that the social aspect seemed to be lacking: Bad play by Wentz followed by him throwing his arms up or looking around in frustration, then walking off to go sit alone on the bench. It was never a look of "my bad" after a bad play, never an attempt to rally the troops and pump up his guys on the bench. Always just sitting by his lonesome, frantically scrolling on a tablet. I noticed that Wentz seemed to be lacking in the leadership department a long time ago, and this was always my biggest concern, along with noticing that his development just seemed to have stalled once they brought in all these unqualified assistants, like a QB coach who's only merit seemed to be that Carson liked him. For a long time I've questioned whether Wentz has the composure and self-awareness to play this position in this city. It's good to see that the media and many other fans have finally recognized this as well. As fans, we can mostly only go on our gut instincts based off how we see players behave on gameday and respond to pressure, and so far, my gut instincts about Wentz have been confirmed time and time again.

Yes.

(it was frozen, though.)

If Wentz gets them to dump Howie, I'll give him another chance, lol.
