While protecting the player, he is basically saying "yes" in a subtle way as possible.

I do think that the Hurts pick is playing a role but... honestly if that is the case then then pick is even more justified, because it’s showing that Wentz is a bit mentally/emotionally fragile and can’t deal with the pressure.

Yup. And that’s still coming on the heels of him dealing with the team getting the job done with Foles, and many more convinced they were on the verge of doing it again without him a year later if Alshon hangs on to that last pass in NO.

This brain-trust will give up on Wentz completely, on a matter of when. Especially if we end up with a top 3 pick and a chance to start over at QB.

To be honest this season is basically a lost cause anyway. I think we would be better off starting out 1-5 (or 0-6... not even convinced they can beat the Bengals). Force the coaches to acknowledge this season is done and get the young kids as much playing experience as possible for the final 10 games. Get Hurts in at QB. Replace Mills or McLeod with Wallace. Reagor, Hightower and Ward as your top 3 receivers.  Use Taylor, Bradley and Edwards as your linebackers.

Get all the youth on the field and let them have their growing pains, and see who rises to the occasion. Who knows, maybe Hurts shows he has the "it” factor and steals the job.

I don’t think you could get to that point unless you have a serious breakdown, and good luck trying to convince NFL players, coaches, fans, and owners that it’s okay to lose. That alone could be the end of Doug Pederson as head coach.

Discuss.

The answer that you won’t hear, but is in his heart: I wanted them to keep Foles, but I got overruled. Now I’m stuck with this duck hunting North Dakota farm seed who used to be a big fish in a little pond, but now can’t handle the heat of the big city. Relax apologists. I only jest.

14-15 in his last 29 games.  😢

Run him back out there for the second half unless he has an undisclosed injury.

If Wentz can't beat even the Bengals, he shouldn't start another game for the Eagles.

What if he ties?

He has to start every game. If you bench him he loses all trade value. If he continues to suck you let him carry us right into a top draft pick.

They’re gonna keep throwing Carson out there. He’s better than Sudfeld, and Hurts isn’t close to NFL ready. The Eagles are out of options. They made their bed with Wentz, and now they have to lay in it.

I remember all the apologists saying that this had to be Carson’s team in order for them to be good. Well the got him all kinds of offensive toys and he’s turned out to be worse.

But on the flip side of that, you end up with a high pick but not knowing what you have in Hurts. If Hurts gets significant time this season and performs at a high level, that could mean you get to use that high pick on the best player available instead of needing it to be a QB.

I don't think we'll know what we have in Hurts regardless. Good or bad. One season would be too small a sample. Hell, we still don't even know what we have in Wentz yet and it's tear 5 lol.

I still recall the game with that Washington FB Team where Wentz was surrounded by like 3 - 4 or 5 Washingtonians . . .

and Wentz ducked down low and broke away from them for a big gainer. It was a great play that we're never gonna see again.

He need to start running laps and get fast again not gain weight imo

I was there myself I just actually kept quiet about it. Now....seems we were right. Foles led this team in a big way more than once....he was smart and led the team...

Here's a thought: haven't there been QB's in the past that have actually come in during their first year and has stolen the job? What if that IS Hurts?

Wentz needs his staff back from his almost MVP year. Just doesn't look close to being that guy.

Oh lord.  Foles debate is back. He certainly is killing it these days for sure

Feel free to skip past it. I was agreeing with an earlier post....

Exactly. There was no real competition in camp and no preseason to see Hurts in action but in some cases it becomes very apparent early on if a guy has what it takes. You may not know the whole story, but you can get an idea.

Just look at Russel Wilson. 3rd round pick, Seattle didn’t really have a proven starter so he had a chance to compete, and he showed pretty much from day 1 that he belongs. No way of knowing if Hurts could have a similar story if he doesn’t get in the field.

If he did go out there for a significant portion of the season and balled out, then you could use your high draft pick on a lineman to protect him, or a stud WR, pass rusher to help the defense, etc. If the season is a lost cause, then it would be very beneficial to get a good look at Hurts.

But Wentz is a product of the QB factory......

What sucks about the schedule is they have the Bengals, followed by Niners, Steelers, Ravens. If Wentz sucks again and they manage to lose to Cinci, it would be worthy of a benching... but you really can’t throw Hurts into that three game gauntlet.

With maybe 6 wins we will have a shot at Lawrence?
